Chapter 11
On the way jai bought some flowers for bani..he remembered that she loved flowers esp red roses..At last he reached the hospital..got out and went inside..
Suddenly he started feeling nervous..Finally he walked towards bani's room..before he could open the door he heard maasi's voice..
Masi quietly: "beta jai came to see you yesterday…
The he heard bani
Bani weakly but coldly : "why?"
Jai froze..just one word "why" crumbled his hope of winning bani back into his life..he knew that whatever he has dreamt last night was never going to be a reality..
He slightly open the door and saw bani sitting on the bed looking pale and weak..
Masi: "beta maine jai ko sab kuch bata diya hai"
Bani: "masi yeh aap kiya kah rahi hai..to kiya mr.walia jante hai ki ganga uski beti….?
Masi: ha usse pata hai..
Bani alarmed : "yeh aap ne kya kiya masi..bas ek ganga hi meri jine ka sahara thi..ab mr.walia bhi mujhe cheen lega.."
Jai's eyes began to water..he knew that he can't blame her for doubting him but still it hurts to see what bani thinks about him..
Masi angrily: "woh aesa kuch nahi karega..agar usme jhara sibhi sharam baaki hai to woh yaha nahi aayega.."
Jai flinched but stood quietly at the doorway listening to the whole conversation..neither of them saw him..
Masi: woh tumse milna chahata tha lekin maine mana kar diya.."shayad mujhe iesa nahi karma chahiye tha.."
Bani gently: "its ok masi..i don't want to see him..ab in sab baato ka koi faida nai hai..ab mr.walia woh aadmi nahi hai jisse maine pyar kiya tha..
Bani's voice trembled: "masi mei mr.walia ko fir bhi maaf kardeti kyunki mei janti hu ki aulad khone ka dard kya hota hai lekin mr.walia ne mere pyar par shak kiya..mujpar itna bada ilzaam lagaya hai ki mei cha kar bhi use maaf nahi kar sakti.." ab who mere liye sirf ek ajnabi hai..mujhe to uske paas jaane se bhi darr lagta hai..maasi mei chahoo bhi usse pyar nahi kar sakti.."
Masi hugged her..
Masi gently: "beta tumhe darne ki koi zaroorat nahi hai..main ho naa..
Jai stood clutching the flowers, his mind spinning as he tried to assimilate what he'd just heard. He let go of the door abruptly and strode out of the hospital cutting a swathe through the crowd.
On a basis of those few words, which rang so true it hurt. Jai knew that he has made the biggest mistake of his life.And he couldn't stop the rising tide of panic that gripped him.His heart rate was doing triple time.
it couldn't be possible...bani can't be scared of me.."oh god..wat have I become.i've become a moster.yeah dats what I am ..a monster"
The world seemed to tilt crazily as he stood on the steps outside..the past months ran in his head like a bad horror movie..bani's eyes whenever she looked at him..begging for his love..his understanding..how scared she looked when broke her bangles..how hurt she looked when he insulted her infront of everybody..
The signs and clues had been there every step of the way, so obvious…and he had ignored them all..how had he been such a fool? How had he been so blind?had he really let himself become so cynical and jaded ad downright mistrustful that he didn't even recognize a true gem when it was right in front of him.
Like a rock hitting a still, perfect lake and the ripples spreading outwards, everything was so clear in his head now that he felt seicj to his stomach. And more terrified than he'd ever felt in his life. This was it. And he'd thrown it away. He'd thrown bani away. Her words came back into his head with sickening clarity. He remembered the look on her face..How scared she was when he broke her bangles.
He got into the car mutely, wincing from the hurt of her dismissive words. It occurred to him that the door into her heart and life had just been finally closed against him. That he was now doomed to stay outside, cold and alone, for the rest of his days.
And the realization filled her with terror.
