Jai turned around and saw maasi's fuming face. She came stood in front of the door blocking his way.
Maasi(angrily): tum yaha kiya kar raho ho?
Jai for the first in his life was lost for words: "I heard that bani fainted and fell from the stairs last night..and I
Maasi: you what??and you came running to check if she's faking it?
Jai stammered: no..i just came to see her dats all..
Maasi: Kiyu?tumhara bani se rishta kiya hai?
Jai: maasi pliz ….
Maasi refused to listen to him and continued
Maasi: "aaj who jis mukaam par hai uski wajaah sirf tum ho jai..sirf tum.." kiya kuch nahi kiya tumne uske saath aur who bechari sab kuch saheti gayi..you were not the only one who lost krishna and arthrva jai..bani also lost them..you had the whole family's support and love with you but bani??She had nobody with her..and on top of that you threw her out of the house…jab usse tumhari sab se jaida zarorat thi tab tumne uska saath nahi diya..usse dhake maar kar ghar se nikaal diya..
Jai angrily: I had a good reason for that maasi..she was sleping with Daksh..she was married to me but still she was having an affair with some other guy..even today they are still together..u'll never understand my pain..i didn't leave bani , she left me..and for what?so that she can sleep with some young man. Whatever punishment I give her is nothing to what I felt when she betrayed me five years ago..bani is nothing but a two-timing slut..
SLAP..
Jai stared at maasi..maasi gave him another slap..
Maasi : how dare you call bani a slut..arre woh to devi hai jisne kabhi tuj jaise shaitaan se piyar kiya tha..par who ye bhool gayi thi ke shaitaan tu aakhir shaitaan hi huta hai..agar tum me sachai sunne ki himmat hai tu sun..
Bani aaj bhi ganga kit tarha pawitra hai..bani and daksh never had slept together..
Jai shocked: I don't believe you..i say them with my own eyes..
Maasi: yeah it was meant for you to see it..so that when you see them like that you'll throw bani out of the house and that exactly what you did jai..it was all planned..
Jai not really believing: "what do you mean? Who wanted me to see them like that..who planned it..??
Maasi: tumhari sagi behen jigyasa ne..
Jai: WHAT!! I don't believe you?? She can never do sumthing like this..
Maasi was beyond caring laughed bitterly: oh but there more..jai looked at..you have a daughter jai..even though you threw her out of your house, she still loved you, she suffered every pain and gave birth to your daughter. She was alone in this entire world and she knew that society will always look at her with disgrace and always question her about the father of her child but she still brought your child into this world..just imagine what she must have gone through..arre tum to sapne me bhi aisa nahi sooch sakte..
And the only person who supported and stood by her side was Daksh..Daksh has saved her. He's been with her through every step..helping her in anyway he can..aur tumne uski dosti ka ek naajayaz naam diya..Aur jaante ho tumhari beti kaun hai??ganga.. dat little girl you've grown to love
Jai staggered back a step.His face went white. The words came out low and hoarse, "oh my god".
Maasi: ab pachtane se koi faida nahi jai kiyuki ab bahut der ho gayi hai..
Jai's face shot up..confusion written on his face ..
Masi: bani has cancer..and saying this she went inside and closed the door but before closing she said " dobara yaha mat aana..mei nahi chahati ki bani ab tumhari shakal dekhe..tum jao apni biwi aur apni pariwaar ke paas..
Jai's voice shook: maasi u don't mean that.. I need to see her, to hear her voice..do you think I could sleep?Do you? She's my world. Without her…without her___" His voice closed up. "Please I have to explain.."
There was a long moment of silence then, "If you really want to see happy then stay away from her.." You've done enough damage already..whenever she wanted to come to the hospital you always stopped her..now see what has you ego done to her.."Now you also have to suffer..you also have to endure all the pains you've given her.."with that she closed the door on his face..
Jai left the hospital. Out of breath, he slid into his car, revived the engine and drove mindlessly, stupidly, worse than a drunk who didn't know what he doing, because he knew..
Bani has cancer..he thought.."oh my god..am I going to lose her again".. This can't be happening to me..I can't lose her..she's my life..Bani. Her name spilled from his heart, from his throat. He was going to kill someone if he kept driving. Maybe himself .
No. Not himself. As much as he wanted to kill himself but he knew he wasn't a coward. Nothing was that bad. Nothing. He had a wife to win back, a daughter to think of. Life to live. Just thinking about ganga his face softened..Oh my god I have a daughter.."When I first saw her something about her reminded me of bani..her sweet nature, her smile..now I know why because she's our daughter.."
He slowed down, finding himself at the spot overlooking the lake. He stared at the water.
Five years of grief spilled out of him. He fought giving in to it for as long he could. Then he put his head against the steering wheel, and after so many years, he cried.
