Mr. Walia put down the phone and tried to concentrate on his work.

Part 14
Aditya stepped in Mr. Walia's office, somewhat scared of how he would react on what Aditya was going tell.
'Jai, Mr. Khan somehow removed the file with his presentation from his hard drive. What should we do? Jai….Jai…..are you listening? He lost his presentation. The meeting is in 20 minutes.'
Mr. Walia looked up from a file.
'I have his presentation. Bani mailed it to me. Tell him to get ready.' And he continued with his work. To say that Aditya was shocked at Mr. Walia's reaction was an understatement. Jai Walia, the Raging Bull was not mad at his employee for deleting a file? Something was defenitely wrong.
'Jai, are you all right?'
'Yes Aditya, why are you asking?'
'No nothing. Jai, do you mind if I go home early today. Bani is moving out today and we are helping her shift.'
Mr. Walia looked up. 'Not at all Aditya.
'Thanks Jai. Ow by the way, Mausi invited you to dinner tonight, our daughters-in-law will be cooking for the first time today.'
'Adi I don't think I'll be able to make it, I………' the same voice in his head said:
'Come on Jai, say why you really don't want to go, or do you want to go?'
'Come on Jai, were also 'celebrating' Bani's moving out.'
Jai grinned at Aditya's sour face and air quotes at the word celebrating.
'I'll try Aditya'
'Jai, If you could bring Nikita to bless the couples………she did not attend the wedding too, and …………..well I just wondered……no matter what, she is their Mami.' Aditya walked out of the office.
Aditya arrived at the mansion around two. He saw Pushkar carrying a box with Bani's stuff, followed by Bani, who was carrying a suitcase.
'Pushkar, were are Tarun and Ranveer?' Aditya asked.
'I don't know Phuphaji. Abhi abhi yahaan the. And pushkar walked outside toward the moving van.
Aditya walked up to his room to fresh up when he heard some muffled voices coming out of Ranveer's room.
'Are nahin mamaji, isse yahaan mat rakhna, she will find it easily. I'll hide it in mamma and papa's room. Bani never goes there, she won't guess it is there.'
'theek hai Ranveer. But be careful. Nobody should see it.'
Aditya stepped in. He could see their backs when he shouted: 'What are you two doing?'
Both of them slowly turned around. They looked like the got caught steeling. Actually they kind of were. Aditya saw that both of them had a few of Bani's stuff in their hands. A picture, her diary, a few books and her laptop.
'Who Papa. Hum…….hum kuch nahin, we were helping Bani move. Hai na mamji?'
'Haan Ranveer. We were helping Bani shift.'
Aditya smiled and turned around to leave the room. 'Make sure you return Bani her stuff Ranveer, but not today. She will have to come tomorrow to pick it up. And only give her one item a day so she has to come home every day the next week.'
Bani's stuff got shifted in her new apartment. Her apartment was small, but just he way Bani wanted it to be. She had a nice kitchen, which was actally an open kitchen, a part of the living room, but Bani had a low wall constructed, with a wooden surface so it looked like a caf counter. She had a nice dinning area dining table and chairs, next to the kitchen counter. Her living area across the dining area was painted in a baby blue. All the fabrics in her living area were white. The curtains, the sofa set and the chair seating. Most of the other furniture like the table and TV cabinet were a combination of silver metal and glass. The enormous windows in that room were actually the doors to the balcony that Bani loved so much. In a corner of the living area Bani made a small mandir for her Ramji.
The two bedrooms in the house were situated on the left and right side of the living room. Bani's furnished her room with cherry wooden furniture and a cherry wooden floor. She loved the dark shade of the wood. Most of the fabrics in the room were in a deep red colour. The other bedroom was furnished with pine wood which was a light coloured wood and the room had light yellow fabrics.
The whole apartment had Bani's touch and Aditya, Tarun and Ranveer were very impressed the way she had decorated the apartment in such a short time. But as expected they did not show it. They were determined to find flaws and discussed every corner of the apartement amongst themselves. They were still pretending to be mad at Bani and were not talking to her. Bani made it a game to make them talk to her, and she won several times.
In the evening everyone gathered in Walia mansion for dinner. It was the first time Rano and Pia cooked something as the daughter-in-law of the house. actually it was the first time they cooked at all. They called Bani several times that day to ask them if the oil was hot enough, when to put salt, and what the h*ll the au bain marie means when you are making brownies for dessert. Despite this dinner smelled great when the table was set for dinner. Even Mr. Walia joined them.
'Jai, Nikita nahin aayi?'Aditya whispered.
Mr. Walia just shook his head.
Dinner was really good. Bani was so proud at her sister. Pia and Rano got royally teased by their husbands for calling Bani so many times.
During coffee Bani went to the room she slept in the last three years and came down with a few frames.
'Yeh kya hai Bani?'Mausi asked.
Bani showed everyone what she was holding in her hands. She made some copies of photos and framed them for her new apartment. Photos of her and her sisters when they were kids, teenagers and adults. A photo of her parents, photos of the family members, and a few photos she found after her fathers death including a picture of her parents on their wedding day with Uday and Krishna Walia, and a picture of her father and Mr. Walia when he was a teenager.
'Bani can I have a copy of that photo?'
'Sure Mr. Walia.' Bani turned around towards her boss, and saw him rapidly brush away a tear.
That night Bani went to her new home the very first time, after a huge argument between Pushkar and Ranveer, who were fighting over who was going to give her a ride to her apartment (they refused to call it home), and Aditya and Tarun were convincing her to stay just one more night. At the end both Ranveer and Pushkar dropped her off. When they left Bani turned around and said: 'Ranveer, I would like to have the things back you hid with Tarun uncle, before you leave for your honeymoon tomorrow.'
Ranveer just grinned back at her and left.
Bani went to Walia Industries the next morning. She just entered her office when Aditya signalled her with his hand to come into Mr. Walia's office.
Bani could not help but smirk.
'Adi Uncle are you talking to me again?'
Aditya just showed Bani his tongue.
'Can I come in Mr. Walia?' Bani stepped into the office with two cups of coffee
'Yes Bani, come in.
Bani stepped in and placed both cups on Mr. Walia's desk, one for him and one for Aditya.
Aditya childishly looked the other way, when he saw Bani come in.
'Bani, Aditya has something he wants to tell us.'
Bani giggled. 'Really Mr. Walia, does that us include me too? Looks like Aditya sir is really upset with me.'
'Aditya Sir!!!! Tum kabse mujhe SIR kehne lagi Bani!!!!' Aditya bawled. 'And why are you laughing now?' seeing Bani roaring with laughter made Aditya scream even loader.
'See uncle, I made you talk to me!!' bani replied mischievously.
Aditya and Bani burst out laughing. Mr. Walia jus looked at them and smiled. It took them a while to calm down and come to the actual point.
'Well actually Jai, I wanted to discuss the PA issue with both of you' Aditya explained.
'I took a few interviews and I have found a suitable candidate for you Jai. But the final decision is yours Jai. You can take an interview yourself. The new candidate said he can start immediately as your PA, and you actually need that. As soon as we hire someone Bani will be able to get back to her original post, and her own office.'
'Sure Aditya. Just check with Bani when I have time to take an interview.' Mr. Walia replied in a voice, quite alien to him.
The interview was scheduled for that afternoon. The candidate was qualified, disciplined and had really good references. But the only thing on Mr. Walia's mind was Bani. After the candidate left Mr. Walia called up Aditya.
'Aditya, find another candidate, I won't hire this one.'
Without giving any explanation, Mr. Walia hung up the phone.
A few days had passes since Mr. Walia he had turned down the candidate for the post. Bani was working full-time again. During these days it seemed like a world war was going on inside him. It was a war between his head and his heart. Every time when he would be thinking about the PA-incident his heart would be giving him a standing ovation for not letting Bani go, but his mind would curse him with every bad word he knew, or ever heard, for not hiring a perfectly capable PA and not being able to keep his promise of maintaining a distance.
