thanks for all the beautiful comments. why was Jai so mean, beats me, keep reading to find out. why is Bani back if he was so mean and ruthless to her. Why won't Jai remember anything, or rather if he didnt than why was he asking for her. Interesting questions aint it? Lets see what happens?
Part 3 Jai
Jai turned the temperature up of the shower letting the water calm him. God the way she had looked so damned good. All he wanted to do was hold her and kiss her. Yet that look of confusion, what was he missing, what was he not getting, when this puzzle would finally make sense.
Turning the temperature up once again! The hot shower was like salt to his wounds but it felt good. Especially the bruises on his body, another week or so and he would finally be able to do everything on is own. How long though before the past year comes back to him.
Turning the shower up again washing himself harder, when he hit the bruise on his left side of the chest, oh God the sharp pain almost taking him back to the dreadful accident, all he remembered was him waking up all numb with big lights up above him and his dadi telling him that all would be good.
Getting out of the shower and taking the towel he traced a hand over the steam on the mirror of the wall and looked at himself, water dripping down his sleek body now marked with bruises finally turning a bit red from the purple it was. Why did it feel so right to see her yet something was missing? The hesitation in her steps, the way she moved. What was it? Getting himself into the room was the hardest as his hands weren't strong enough for strong physical action, especially his left palm. Taking the same hand he turned the door knob almost making the knuckles turn white in pain. But he did it, nothing would stop him.
Jai came from a big family. Dadi, Dad, three siblings and close family friend, Aditya. But where did Bani fit into all this. Where was she all these weeks? Why has she come now! Finally dressed he made his way down to the dining room. He was regaining strength bit by bit and it wasn't as bad as few weeks ago. As he was approaching the hallway Bani also turning opposite him from the other end lost in thought walking towards him. Where was she going?
Bani was lost in her thoughts, akhir yeh Dadi kaun hai aur mujse milna kiu chati hai? Looking up in front of her to find Jai, stopping where she was, God what do I say now? What if he says something?
Jai stood there thinking, God she is so beautiful, what do I say to her? I know it that something was there. Still walking towards her! They had met like this, yes it was like this but where? She was approaching him and he was standing still, where?
Jai: bani kya hua? Where are you going? Looking at her all showered and fresh with not a hint of makeup on her face, hair held at the back still wet. Bani looked at him, he was so tall. Exactly on the day of their wedding, after all the rituals she had stood in this same position at the dinner table when he had held her hand and promised her so many things. Closing her eyes she looked down "mai woh, I was going down for dinner t" Jai looked at her confused, what it was about her he didn't know but she was like ice on fire. She gave him a piece of mind. Why is that? Was she on his mind when he was involved in that accident? Or was she the reason? There were so many unanswered questions.
Jai: dining area is taraf hai, chale? Bani just shook her head walking behind him. Looking at his slow steps and following. An elderly lady was already seated at the table and seeing Jai, walked towards them and hugged them.
Dadi: bahu? Kitne din huye, it's been ages. "I kept telling Jai that I wanted to meet you and he kept delaying it atleast now I see you"
Bani stood there stunned and didn't move, too shocked to react in any form. Dadi had kissed Jai and moved on to kissing Bani on her cheeks and hugging her. Bani stood there like zombie too numb to do anything.
Jai sat down and got up again: bahu? Kya matlab dadi? Dadi wasn't dumb she looked at him and smiled, areh beta bahu yani ki thumari patni, I am not that old to not recognize Bani Walia. This is Bani right? Your wife? You surely haven't forgotten that you are married right?
Jai stood there too shocked to react in anyway but it all made sense. "My wife?" "MY WIFE?" No wonder she has been acting so different, who wouldn't when their spouse fail to remember them. Looking up at Bani who had her head cast down starring at the floor and not saying a word? "WHY DIDN'T ANYBODY CARE TO TELL ME THAT BANI WAS MY WIFE"
Bani looked at the tiles her vision blurred, here it comes, the blow? He must have remembered who I am now! She didn't have the energy or the guts to go through all that again and just didn't want to look at that accusing glare he once gave her.
Jai: my wife? Bani and I are married? Hearing that Bani looked up and Aditya following behind, "ha Jai you are married" "a year and 3 months now"
Jai: but where was Bani all this time? Poor Jai all confused and worried. "She was right here but doctor had said once you regain enough strength that you might have more energy to deal with things" confirmed Adiyta, "He had assumed that you didn't remember so you wouldn't miss it. But apparently you did, just not how she was related to you".
Jai was furious: wait I remember you, I remember dadi, bhaia, jigyasa but I don't remember my own wife? How can that be?
Dadi and Aditya both looked at Bani and hoped that she wouldn't say anything, Jai hadn't really treated her all that great in the first place, but Bani stood stunned. "he doesn't remember anything?" "oh no" This was too much for her to handle and suddenly the whole room started to spin, the floor wasn't steady any more and her knew, what was up with her knee, it felt so so weak, Bani was flat on the ground, passed out!
Dadi running to Bani: she had fainted, you people couldn't even get her some rest or something to eat, its been a long day. Bani was moved to a couch where she was laid down and left alone while Jai sat starring at her forcing himself to think hard. To think why won't he remember he had a wife? Pushing his hair back in frustration, Aditya bringing him some brandy, "you need to rest Jai" Jai looked up at his friend and gave him a tight smile. " how can I yaar, look at her, I don't even remember our marriage just the times before that, and here we are" Aditya looked at him and squeezing his shoulders "don't worry yaar, the one above is a great guy, does everything for a good reason, you will get it all back, give it sometime" "look at it as a new beginning you know"
Jai thanked him and picking up Bani even though every limp in his body was telling him bad choice, carried her to their bedroom. Laying her underneath the comforter as Aditya bid them goodnight. Jai stood hands in pockets looking, starring at his wife. She was his wife. He was married. There had to be something, pictures, album, ring, looking at his hand, our wedding ring. Taking Bani's hand and looking at the ring, no ring?" further confused, did she do that on purpose? Walking to the dresser and opening draws. His hands, feel, whole body were aching like crazy and he knew he needed to rest, but now he needed to know. How would sleep come to him when he needed to know answers to questions that were biting him? Searching through the third draw Jai found a heavy envelope which looked like pictures and than two boxes, taking it and putting it on the table looking at them. As the pictures fell, all the wedding pictures dropping on the floor bit by bit, why are they still in this envelope, shoved in the corner? Opening the box he found the rings, looking at them, trying to recall the day they got married. Leaning down he picked up pictures, she looks so vibrant with happiness that must have been a very special day.
Jai picked each by each, watching how Bani is dancing in his arms, how she is looking up to him with a smile, and than turning his head to the girl who was behaving like a stranger to him. Nothing made sense anymore. Was the real Bani in the pictures or the one laying in his bed, their bed!
Leaving the things as they were lying around he decided he needed to rest, his body was screaming for rest. His limbs were sore and the heavy weight of her sleeping form was more than he could manage. Gulping in two glasses of water as he took his pain killers Jai went to the other side of the bed and thought if should or should not! "what the hell, she is my wife," getting in the blanket and knocking out before he realized it"

Bani woke up with sun shining on her face. OH how much she hated it, Rano di bhi nah. Wanting to turn but something was stopping her. Making faces without opening it she wanted to turn. What was it. As she felt something lean and strong around her waist, touching and feeling it, opening her eyes! Bani almost in shock almost gasped as she found two pairs of eyes inches away from hers starring right back at her.
Jai could feel something moving but too groggy to wake up. Why wont it soft, it was so nice and soft and so so feminine. Holding this seemed so good. As this something tried to move more Jai couldn't help but realize he was holding not something but his wife. Bani was in his arms. Slowly opening his eyes he could feel her stirring and waking up. Wasn't that the most beautiful thing to see in the morning. Looking at the funny faces she was making was so, he couldn't describe it, it felt felt good. All of a sudden, she opened her eyes.
Jai instantly let her go and Bani shifted and getting on her foot almost falling right back where she was: meh yaha, trying to find her hair tie? It was still wet as she had tied them wet last night, but falling in curly wave's right to her waist. I am sorry I must have. Jai getting up slowly needing help as Bani kneeled forward helping with his left arm, "its okay" Jai managed. "this is where you belong Bani, I don't think you should apologize for sleeping in your own bed?" Aware of those words, how couldn't Bani explain to him as to how much was this bed was hers? It was mere hours of early morning when this bed had been the first and last she had used in this house.
Taking a step as she came in contact with all her wedding pictures scattered on the floor, bending down to look at them. Oh how she had laughed and made poses for the photographer so that she could cherish memories of this day forever. She was thought of so many ways in which she would enlarge them and get them on their bedroom wall and the hallway with all the other pictures. How she had envisioned of making her very own scrap book to keep all the memories forever in that book. Jai's gaze followed her movement, battling whether to pull her back in bed or to get up and help her "im sorry I was trying to remember and when it didn't come I found those pictures to remind me". Biting hot tears behind her sore eyes now, Bani got up finally lifting all of the them and placing them in the envelope. Her eyes caught sight of the rings on the dresser. Without looking at Jai, her hands touched the beautiful feel of the princess cut on her ring, her reflection visible to Jai on the bed through the humongous mirror opposite her with the dresser.
Bani: no I liked that one. Bani had been looking almost half of the evening with Jai and nothing caught her eye that she wanted as an engagement ring.
Jai: Bani? Honey, common it's been three hours already, there must be something you like. This is one of Delhi's famous diamond stores.
Bani leaned on the counter almost crying: no but that is the one I liked, and she took it. Her eyes had fallen on the one of the most beautiful pieces, simple band with an elegant princess cut in the middle, karat white gold. Before she could look at it the owner had marked sold on it. "Lets just go!" Jai had looked at her frustrated fianc "are you sure honey?" "They have really nice ones here" Bani had sighed holding his hands and pulling him out of the diamond store "yeah I am sure, we will find something tomorrow"
It was to Bani's amazement exactly the same time the next evening they had sat together to have lunch when Jai had got on his knees and proposed with the same ring. "oh Jai as Bani had sighed deep with her hand on her chest, how did you ever manage?"
Jai had taken her hand "honey you forget that I am Jai Walia and nothing is impossible for me!" "Now? if it's a yes, would you say it, my knees are not that strong compared to my leg" Bani had laughed and crying had given her hand and shook her head in a yes" "yes! Oh yes! Oh yes!. As Jai had pulled her in his arm and swung her around with the crowd of the restaurant cheering, giving her a nice wet kiss on her cheeks.
"Bani?" "Bani?" Jai watched her tears spill, why is she crying. Getting up off the bed. Tears were now flowing and she didn't even realize Jai was calling her. Wiping them off suddenly Bani placed the ring in the box and looked back "yes?" not meeting his eyes.
Jai got up and moved towards her standing right in front of her. Bani was starring at his chest, when he took the ring and picking up her hand slid the ring on the finger it belonged too "I don't know why you took it off, but if you are Mrs Jai Walia, than you better be it in every possible way." Bani just stared at her finger with the ring on it now, it was a bit loose, and another sign of how much weight she had lost in the past year or so. Jai left to freshen up in the bathroom of their master bedroom. The same words were said before, a year or so ago, but with a different meaning. Moving to the window as the sun shined on the rock of her finger, "oh Bani" what are we going to do! It didn't have to be said, Bani Dixit sorry, Bani Walia was still very much in love with her husband!
Jai didn't know what made him do that, but if she was his wife, God Dammit it he was going to make sure that she be it in every way. AS much as he wanted her he couldn't without healing to the fullest. Oh it felt so good to have her close to him like that. It had been a night without any medication effects or any nightmares, just a deep cozy sleep. It was the most peaceful night he had in weeks. The hot shower running down his body, after many days today he felt he could catch up on work; find out how things have been in his absence for such a long time! Smiling at himself he grabbed the body wash.
