Part 5: Hey eyelids felt too heavy to open, as if something were holding them down, making her unable to voluntarily open them. She opened her eyes and looked around her. Everything was so unfamiliar, as if she were in a different world. She looked around and saw that she was in a cellar. It had no windows, no light, as if no living creature would ever be able to survive its wrath. Bani tried to get up, but was tied down by chains. She thought of what had happened, and deemed herself stupid for getting caught. Now she was surely stuck in this place forever. There would be no second chance, and the men would make sure of that.
Bani remembered the incident so clearly, and just as clearly identified her mistake, where she had gone wrong. How stupid could she have been to forget to lock the door when she pushed the man inside? Just as she had thought she was going to be free, she herself had ruined all chances of that happening. The men had caught her right when she was at the door. She started sobbing at the thought of being stuck there for the rest of her life.
Bani then heard the sound of footsteps approaching the door. She stopped sobbing, wiped her tears, and got ready for whatever was to befall her. Just as the lock could be heard unlatching, Bani caught her breath in anticipation of what was going to happen next. The door swung open and light flooded the room. She couldn't see the face properly in the dim light, but was sure from his outline that he wasn't one of the men. He didn't look as if he could be a day over 20. But who was he?
"Bani, are you okay?" asked the anonymous man. Bani was too shocked to respond, so just nodded her head in an affirmative, but wasn't sure if the man had seen it or not. The man walked towards her, but Bani wasn't sure why she didn't feel the same dread and fear she felt with the other men. With this man she felt only safety and comfort. Just as the man bent down towards Bani, she got the courage to ask him, "Who are you?" She wasn't sure if he had heard of not because he just continued unlocking the chains and paid no heed to the expression of curiosity on Bani's face. Just as he freed Bani from her restraints, he pulled her up from off the floor and said, "We don't have time for questions right now. Just do as I say and I'll answer all your questions later."
They then started running. Just as they were approaching the entrance of the building, the man told her to duck behind the plant. "Hey Raghav, tell my dad I'm going out with my friends. I'll be late and to not wait up for me. k?" he said in an authoratative voice. Just as the man left, he held Bani's arm in a firm grip and ran along with her. Just as she got out, she started wondering just exactly how they were going to get out when the man pointed out the car parked in the corner.
Bani sat in the passenger seat while the man drove. Just as they had started driving on the highway, he started talking. "I know you're probably wondering who I am and what I have to do with you. Well, i'm Jai Walia. I had met your brother, Pushkar, a couple days ago. He was buying some 'private' time with you. When the man said no, he got furious and started beating him up. I started wondering why someone would do so much for one girl when there were so many others, no offense to you. That's when i did some research and found out that he's your brother. I contacted him, and we made this plan" he finished in a huff.
Bani thought for a moment and started crying. That meant that Jai was just like all those other men, staring at women as if they're a piece of meat. What else would he have been doing at that kind of place. And what was he saying to that Raghav guy? Tell his dad? Who was his dad? Before Bani had even said anything, it was as if Jai had read her mind. "I know what your thinking. Yeah, unfortunately, my dad is the one that owns the place where you were held captive. He's one of the men that kidnapped you" he said with a hint of anger in his voice.
Bani was too shocked to say anything. She just sat like a statue for the rest of the ride, silent tears streaming down her cheeks. HE was the one that did all of this to her. So what if it wasn't actually him who participated in it, but he didn't excatly stop it either. How could someone be so cruel? Just at that time, the car halted to a stop. Bani was caught up so deep in her thoughts that she had totally forgotten where she was going. She couldn't believe the time had finally come for her to go home, to meet her family and friends. Just as she started ascending the stairs towards the front door, she noticed that all the lights were off and she heard no movements inside. Where was everyone? The anticipation grew inside of her. She needed to see everyone for her own comfort. Just as she turned the doorknob, she was shocked and started sobbing.
That's it for now 😃
