Chapter 14
Jai stared at his empty office desk which usually would have files and paper stacked on it. Today he hardly had any work and the little he had, he finished rather easily. Now he had his arms under his head and feet on the desk wondering what to do. Interrupting his thoughts came the tune of his phone.
He hurriedly answered it hoping it was Bani. "Hello?" Jai voiced. He repeated himself after a couple of seconds when he heard no reply. Shrugging his shoulders he hung up the phone and decided to go home since there was no work and mostly because he wanted to see Bani.
Bani was searching through the closet in her bedroom trying to find her light orange salwaar kameez. "Where is it?" she sighed in frustration. As her eyes schemed over her outfits she felt two large hands encircle her waist. She looked behind quickly to see Jai's intoxicating eyes.
She sighed a relief and stared at his mischievous grin. "What are you doing here?" she questioned surprisingly. "There wasn't any work in the office so I came home early," Jai smiled. He smelled the lovely fragrance of her hair as Bani turned her head around and began looking at her closet again.
"What are you searching for?" Jai asked. "My orange salwaar kameez, I can't find it," she frowned. "Hmm is it this one?" Jai questioned lifting the material that was hiding between her other clothing. "Yes it's that one," Bani replied happily. She took the clothing and was about to leave when Jai caught her hand.
"My reward?" he asked huskily. "Thank you," Bani replied. "No I mean something more than that," Jai smirked. "Masi is waiting for me, we are going to the temple." Bani tried to free her hand from his hold. Jai frowned, "I was thinking we could spend some quality time together and go for lunch."
"Sorry Jai I already promised Masi, maybe some other day," Bani explained. "Fine," Jai said grumpily and let her hand go. He crossed his arms over his chest and turned his face the other way not looking at Bani, acting childish. She hugged him from behind and whispered in his ear, "Maybe I could give your reward tonight."
Jai was shocked Bani said that and before he could catch her, she had already ran out of the room laughing. Jai took a shower later and than sat on the sofa turning on the television to the news channel. Slowly he drifted off to sleep with Bani invading his dreams.
Ranveer nervously played with his car keys, tonight was his date with Rano. After trying so much she had finally agreed to have dinner with him and he couldn't ruin this chance to show her, he was a gentleman. Wearing a black suit with a white dress shirt he left his home to pick her up.
Ringing her doorbell he awaited her with much impatience. Opening the door, Ranveer stared at Rano who looked extravagant in a black halter dress with silver bead adorning the waist. The dress went up to her knees and exposed some of her back in a v cut.
Ranveer's mouth was left wide open. "Shall we go?" Rano moved past Ranveer ignoring the expression on his face. Arriving at the restaurant they sat at a table for two near the corner which had more private space around them. The colours in the restaurant were warm pleasing to the eyes.
After ordering food they began talking, Ranveer told Rano how he was a orphan and Uday Walia helped him out funding for his education than giving him a job. "What about your family Rano?" Ranveer asked after finishing his talk about his life.
For a second he saw sadness in her eyes which made him regret he asked the question. "I have a father in Mount Abu. When I was six I lost my mother. Ever since than my father became a drunkard taking loans from our landlord for his alcohol. One day the landlord came to my father and purposed a deal. To pay off all the loans, in return he asked for me."
"My father hardly in his senses tried to force me to marry the old man. I was a teenager than and I had no other choice but to run away from home. Ever since than I've been living here, working different jobs to support myself," the hurt in her voice was visible.
"I'm sorry to hear that," Ranveer said quietly. He couldn't believe her own father would do such a thing. They ate dinner in silence either one not knowing what to say to each other. After dinner he dropped Rano off to her apartment and walked her up to her floor.
"Thanks for the dinner it was great," Rano said opening the door to her home. "Goodnight," Ranveer smiled as she closed the door shut. During the night when Rano lay on her bed she couldn't get any sleep, she kept thinking of Ranveer. Today she had told him about her family and life which she never disclosed to anyone but Bani. She was starting to trust him.
In the night Bani slept peacefully with her head on Jai's chest. After he made love to her, he smoothed her hair out kissing it soothingly. Cuddling her soft body against his masculine one, he stared at her petite hand that rested on his hard chest.
Interrupting the silence of the night, the phone rang loudly. Bani stirred in her sleep a bit until Jai picked the phone up. "Hello," Jai asked wondering who would call at this time of night. Again there was no reply similar to the phone call he received in the office today.
He disconnected the phone angrily thinking someone was trying to annoy them. "Who was it?" Bani mumbled gently, half asleep. "No one, they didn't talk. Go to sleep," Jai whispered kissing her rosy lips softly. She cuddled up again against his chest and they slowly drifted off to sleep.
