Jai was pushed into the room by all the guys in the house. He tumbled inside and saw her standing there. Bani's arms tightened around the rail. She had agreed to the marriage but nonetheless this was an awkward moment. Jai walked up to Bani and put his hand on her shoulder turning her around. Bani slowly turned around and Jai took her hand and kissed it softly. Bani was surprised out of her mind at the occurrences. Jai moved forward and pulled Bani into a hug.

Just then the door opened loudly and Bani broke away from her dream. She realized that Jai had just come into the room. He walked over to the bed and took the blanket. Bani slowly turned around and went over to the bed.
Bani: Mr. Walia, please don't do that. You can sleep there; this is your room and your bed. I am only here temporary so please don't put yourself through the torture.
Jai: But Bani
Bani: Please, give me that. (Taking the blanket and pillow)
She goes and sets them back onto the bed. She goes to the other side of the bed and takes her things instead.
Jai: Bani, you can sleep on that side and I will take this one. Don't worry about it.
Bani: But
Jai: Unless you are uncomfortable then I can move.
Bani: No, it's fine.
The two of them sat on the bed but neither of them were sleepy.
Jai: What made you agree to do this?
Bani: Maybe it was Dadaji, maybe it was just humanity, maybe it was just our slight friendship. I am not too sure.
Jai: So, what are your plans after all this is over?
Bani: I had a question.
Jai: What?
Bani: Along with this, is there any way that I can finish education as well?
Jai: Of course Bani. I don't want you to be tied down by the marriage, you can do whatever you want.
Bani: Thanks
Jai: What are you planning to study?
Bani: I am going to finish management studies.
Jai: You don't need to do all that. You can work as a manager at Walia Industries.
Bani: I don't want to offend you or anything but I just want to get this on my own. Get a job because I am qualified for it and not because I am married to their boss.
Jai: I respect that Bani, I really do.
Bani: Ummm… this may sound weird but before coming in here, Dadaji was talking about… our honeymoon.
Jai: I know. I heard them talk last night and it was about us going to Malaysia.
Bani: Malaysia?
Jai: Unless there is some other place you may want to go.
Bani: No, no that's fine. I know a friend there we can go visit… that's if we go…
Jai: No, we will go. We have to go unless you have some other plans.
Bani: No…
Someone knocked on the door and Jai got up to open the door. It was Anu who had come giving some milk for her mamaji and then she rang away giggling.
Bani started to take off the extensive amount of jewelry and placed them on the dresser. The necklace wouldn't come off as the clasp was put very tightly. She struggled to take it off and realized that usually she got her mom to take it off at times like this. She turned around to get Jai to take it off but she didn't need to ask.
Jai came and took the necklace off easily. He started to take off the other necklaces just to make Bani's life easily.
Bani: No, please don't take that off.
Jai: What? (oblivious to what he was taking off since he couldn't see the front of it).
Bani: Umm… it's mangalsutra.
Jai stopped taking off the necklace and walked away and slept on his side of the bed.
The next morning when he woke up Bani was not on the bed. There was an aroma of good food floating all around the house. By the time Jai got up and went downstairs the entire table was set with good food. In the mornings, the table usually had cereal since most of the people in this house didn't care enough to make full extensive breakfast. Dadi used to make it before but after a while with people's busy schedule it stopped.
Jai: I am going to office.
Bani: No way. Sit down and eat breakfast, you cant leave the house before that.
Jai: But I have a meeting in 30 minutes.
Bani: How long does it take to get to work?
Jai: 20 minutes.
Bani: Good, sit I can give you food and you can eat it in 10 minutes.
Jai: But…
Bani: Shh…
Dadaji: I knew she was the perfect choice for you! She will totally keep you settled.
Jai: And make me late, watch.
Bani came and gave the plate of Jai's favorite food to him. Jai hadn't tasted this good food in a really long time and was loving it.
Jai: This is really good food.
Bani: Thank you, now plan on coming downstairs everyday before going to work and eat.
Jai: Bani, how will you manage all these things together? I mean once you start studies again, you should just focus on that.
Bani: I will be fine.
Jai: We will go for honeymoon after your exams are over.
Saahil: Kya baat hai mamaji… abhi se aap mami ka itna dhyan rakhne lage.
Jai: Shut up.
Jai got up and was leaving for work.
Bani: Wait, you still have 3 more minutes. You want to do me a quick favor?
Jai: Sure what is it?
Bani: On your way to work, can you drop me off at the university. It is along the way so you don't have to go out of way.
Jai: Yah, hurry.
Bani: Be back in a flash.
Bani came back downstairs in just a few days but was no longer wearing a sari but instead had on a long skirt and a simple top. She was a woman of surprises Jai reflected.
After dropping her off, he was off to work. Bani realized only a minute later that she had left her purse in the car but she had a meeting to attend so planned on going and picking it up later. Once the meeting was over, Bani got a ride from Pushkar to Walia industries.
Jai was in his room dealing with Roshni, who as always was trying to flirt with him. He was rather annoyed by her and only kept her at work still because he respected Roshni's father. She came around the table to try and flirt some more by wiping the cream from the coffee off of his face. Just then Bani entered the room and was shocked. When Jai saw her he felt a sense of guilt which made no sense since he had nothing to worry about as he was doing nothing wrong. Bani looked at the two of them and just quietly said.
Bani: Mr. Walia, I left my purse in the car, do you have it by any chance?
Jai: Yah, I realized after you left and was planning on coming by at lunch and giving it to you.
Bani: Thanks, I got it.
Bani turned around and walked down the stairs, she knew their marriage was fake but it still hurt to think that he could possibly be with someone else. Mist formed in Bani's eyes as she went down the stairs but she wiped it off before anyone could question her. Just then she heard footsteps of someone running closer to her and was shocked to see Mr. Walia coming towards her.
Jai: Bani, I want to explain
Bani: Mr. Walia, you have nothing to explain.
Jai: But I do. Let's go to lunch someplace.
Bani didn't feel like protesting and went along to the Chinese restaurant he took her to. After ordering the food, he looked at her and tried to rationalize how to explain the previous situation.
Jai: Bani…
Bani: Mr. Walia, I know this marriage is fake, you don't have to explain anything to me.
Jai: But I do Bani. Okay, this marriage may be fake but I will let you know that until we are in this marriage, I will not cross any boundaries. Roshni is just a colleague and she tends to like to flirt, and that was one of her weak attempts. Before I could brush her off, you came into the room and thought the wrong thing.
Bani: It's fine Mr. Walia.
Jai: I want you to understand that there is nothing going on between any other girl and me. And I want you to trust me on that.
Bani: I do.
The two of them ate lunch, in a comfortable silence. They were used to each other and the silence didn't pierce anything but rather it was their unique form of communication.
After their lunch, Jai dropped Bani home and went back to work. At work, things weren't going well but Bani did not know of that. He always kept his home life and his business life separate as they didn't concern the other. Jai walked into the office and was swamped with work and things to do. He had no idea where the time flew nor did he really care at the time. He was temperamental and really frustrated at all the useless people who worked for his company.
Jai: Can you send Mr. Shah and Mr. Raman in here right away!
Mr. Das (an employee): Sir, sorry to inform you they have gone home.
Jai: What the hell am I doing here then? Who allowed them go to work? Especially after giving me this crap to work off of. Do you know how many mistakes are in this plan? If we give it to the company, no one will want to work with us again.
Mr. Das: Well, other then the way it is organized, everything else should be fine.
Jai: Yah, but if you put spoons, plates, napkins on a table in a messy manner, will anyone appreciate it? Wouldn't you rather want it nicely set? Same with this project… it's all wrong. I need at least another person who can help me with this considering our only two managers who were working on this project are not available. Did you try calling them?
Mr. Das: Yes sir, they won't pick up their phones. I sent someone to their houses to call them for an urgent meeting but no answer.
Jai: This is the first deal that I will ever lose, and I won't allow it. Get out. I will do it.
Jai worked late into the night, it was around 12 when he heard a knock on the cabin door. He was mad for he liked no interruptions at least not now.
Jai: Who the hell is it? Whoever it is, get lost.
The knocking continued, and Jai finally got up and opened the door and was shocked to see Bani standing there all alone.
Jai: Bani, what are you doing here?
Bani: Mr. Walia, you are all right!
Jai: Of course I am fine, why would you think I am not?
Bani: How can you be so inconsiderate? It is 12 at night, I call your cell it's switched off, I call your office it says disconnected. What am I supposed to do? Sit at home and worry why you are not home yet?
Jai: Bani, I
Bani: No, I know this marriage is fake or whatever but is it really that hard to pick up the phone and just call once to tell me you will be late? Am I asking for too much here?
Jai: No (looking down now)
Bani: Good, now have you eaten?
Jai: What?
Bani: Well do you plan on staying up all night and working without giving your body some food?
Jai: Well, I never thought about it.
Bani: See that is what is wrong with you, if not for yourself at least eat for my sake.
Jai: What?
Bani: I mean do you really want to faint when you have to give your presentation tomorrow because of lack of food.
Jai: Well, I guess not.
Bani: Good, now will you not call me in.
Jai: Of course, come in.
Bani: I like your room, and the view from here is gorgeous, it's so pretty!
Jai: Yah, it really is. I guess I see it so often that I have forgotten how beautiful it really looks.
Bani: Is that enough chit chatting now? I figure since you are staying here so late you must have a lot of work to do so eat quickly and we should get back to that.
Jai: We?
Bani: Well, yah. I am sure there is something I can help with… stapling papers, punching holes
Jai: But…
Bani: Don't you have enough things to do, so why not let me do the silly things that are necessary but also useless.
Jai: Fine, can you do me a favor then?
Bani: Anything at all.
Jai: Firstly, Don't talk a lot. And secondly, go and get these copied.
Bani: Fine (taking the paper and walking away in a huff)
Jai smiled watching Bani leave the room and went back to working. He never noticed when Bani came back into the room and did all the little things for him without him needing to ask. When he finally looked up, she was arranging the board in a fashion that looked presentable.
Jai: Bani, what are you doing?
Bani: Oh, I am sorry. I didn't paste them, I was just seeing out you could possibly make the outlines. I am sorry, I was just bored. (Starting to erase)
Jai: Wait, no. I like it.
Bani: Really?
Jai: Yah, it looks really nice. Why don't you paste them in?
Bani: Are you sure?
Jai: 100%.
Bani worked hard making the presentation boards look nice while Jai finished the other paperwork. By 3 they were done with everything and Jai realized that if Bani had not come, he wouldn't be ready even by the time of the meeting.
Jai: Bani, thank you so much. I really owe you big for this.
Bani: Of course not. It was my pleasure. Is everything done?
Jai: It surely is. I guess we should catch some sleep since we have 4 hours till people start coming.
Bani: Here?
Jai: Well I have to come back for the meeting at 7:30 anyways so there is no use in me going home. But you can go.
Bani: Oh, no that's fine. I will stay.
Jai: Bani, I can get someone to come pick you up.
Bani: No. Do you mind if I attend the meeting tomorrow as well? I mean I will sit in the back and just listen.
Jai: Of course, after all that you have helped me with.
Bani: Okay, then I will stay here too but where will we sleep?
Jai: There is a couch right there, it goes back, so we can both sleep on it.
Bani: Okay…
The two of them slept on the opposite side of the couches but by the next morning she was sleeping cozily on Jai's chest. The knock on the door woke both of them up, and it took them a minute to get out of their trance.
The meeting went really well and of course the company loved the presentation and all the ideas involved.
Jai: Thank you for trusting in us. I would like you to introduce to you our new manager, also the person who has helped in making this project possible. My wife, and my friend, Mrs. Bani Walia.
Bani was surprised at the mention of her name and touched by the idea that he referred to her as not only his wife but also his friend in front of so many people. She had not expected the job as a manager but was pleasantly surprised at the idea of spending more time with Mr. Walia.
After the meeting, however, she expressed her concerns.
Bani: Mr. Walia, are you sure about this? I mean I haven't even finished my courses to make me a certified manager.
Jai: Bani, what I saw last night is what I need. Will you take the job? Or do you have a problem with the boss?
Bani: Well, I think the boss likes me so I will take the job.
The two of them broke into a laughter, Jai had no idea how true the line was, he really did like her.
