Part 9:

Rano (finally speaking up): What the hell are you talking about Mr. Walia?

Jai (surprised): Rano… tum?

Rano: Yes, it's me but what rubbish are you talking about?

Jai: Rano, your sister and I never really had any love in our marriage, it was just a wedding done for a cause and now I think your sister has fallen in love with Pushkar and is pregnant with his child.

Rano had no idea what had overcome her but she landed a tight slap on Jai Walia's face.

Rano: I am sorry Mr. Walia but I am fully disgusted by what you just said. My Di would NEVER and I repeat NEVER betray anyone like that, especially her husband. What I find sad is that I have to tell you that. I thought in the past few months, you would have known my sister more then that.

Jai: That's what I thought too but she is pregnant with someone else's child.

Rano: Mr. Walia I have no idea what is wrong between you and my sister but let me tell you this much, I love Pushkar and Pushkar loves me. We are getting married today… how could you even think Di would ever betray you like that? And what is this about the marriage being fake?

Jai: Rano, where is your sister?

Rano: Why would you think my sister is in love with Pushkar or all people?

Jai: Because she and I have never had any sort of relationship, our marriage was just a contract for six months that we made to keep my grandfather happy. But now, she is pregnant.

Rano: Are you sure about her being pregnant?

Jai: Yes, I saw the reports right before I came here.

Rano: I trust my sister's words more then yours or the reports.

Jai: Here, you look at it yourself. It clearly states that Bani Walia is pregnant.

Rano: But why Pushkar?

Jai: Because of these pictures. Because your sister used to like him when she was younger. Because he came to meet your sister almost everyday after your mom passed away. Because I have seen them when they talk to each other and I am sure that they have feelings for each other.

Rano: Just wait here for one second.

Rano went outside the door and yelled "Pushkar."

Pushkar came running upstairs and Rano took him inside the room where Jai Walia was waiting.

Pushkar: Mr. Walia? What is going on here? Where is Bani?

Rano: Pushkar, I want you to tell Mr. Walia whatever he is saying is a lie.

Pushkar: What is he saying?

Rano: Tell him Mr. Walia.

Jai's head bowed down.

Rano: Why are you so ashamed to say it Mr. Walia? Is it because you know you are blaming an innocent person? Pushkar, do you love Di?

Pushkar: Bani? What is this nonsense Rano? How can you even ask me that on OUR wedding day? Don't you know me at all Rano? Do you remember how so many years ago, I asked your sister out and we went on one date and after that we knew instantly that we were not meant to be together in any sense. We decided to be friends and soon we became best friends and it was only through her that I became friends with you and slowly fell in love with YOU. I love you Rano and if you need me to tell you that I will any day but how can you doubt it?

Rano: I am sorry Pushkar, I believed you but it is this man here who is making me trust my love and my sister. You got your answer Mr. Walia?

Pushkar: What's wrong Mr. Walia, why are you so worried? Is everything okay? I mean Bani is fine, right?

Jai: Why are you so worried about her? (A little annoyed and really jealous)

Pushkar: Wait, something is wrong? Mr. Walia, you know that she is pregnant?

Rano: You knew Pushkar!

Pushkar: Yah… wait that doesn't make me the father. Oh my God, I cant believe you both can actually look at me or Bani in the eye and accuse of doing such a thing! I know Rano, you trust me—but is this your definition of trust? And Mr. Walia, how did this ridiculous thought come to your mind?

Jai: These pictures.

Pushkar (after looking at those pictures): Isn't this ironic…

Jai: What?

Pushkar: That was the night she hugged because she realized something that changed her life forever.

Jai: What?

Pushkar: That she was in love… with you!

Jai: What?!?!

Pushkar: Yah, I am not too sure how much she appreciates me telling you this but I can't stand this anymore.

Jai: Tell me what?

Pushkar: Everything. First of all, she loves you. And second of all, this is probably going to be the most awkward conversation we will ever have. Remember that night when it was your birthday and you went downstairs after talking to Bani.

Jai: Yes…

Pushkar: And then you drank something and Roshni decided to help you out to get you into bed with her. She was the one who mixed something in your drinks but it was Bani that came to your rescue. She was the one who saved you from Roshni and took you to the room and while she was leaving…

Jai: What?

Pushkar: I want you to close your eyes and think about what had happened… you will get your answers. I am sorry, I have a wedding to get to.

Jai was totally confused but he closed his eyes and tried to reflect back on that day and then it all flashed in front of his eyes, the entire night, the coming together of two souls, the vows they made to each other, the admittance of love… the night… By the time Jai opened his eyes, Pushkar was gone and he was left alone to curse himself for being so stupid.

A second later the thought hit him… he was going to be a father! He was going to be a dad!

He went outside and watched the marriage between Rano and Pushkar take place. Bani was no where to be found, he searched the entire house but there was nothing. Nothing… it was as if his heart had been ripped apart into millions of pieces.
