Chapter 3
"What's your hobbies," Jai asked nicely. Bani looked up, "Ummmm, reading, swimming, badminton and shopping. Your hobbies?" "Well, basketball, soccer basically sports in general. I also like just going out and chilling with my friends." "I see," Bani replied. While he was talking Bani wasn't paying much attention to his words, she was too distracted by him. He had a nice built body, tanned skin and big brown chocolaty eyes which she could drown in.
"So?" Jai asked. Bani was staring at him this whole time, not listening to what he was saying. "Sorry, what did you say?" "So you don't have any siblings?" he asked again. "Oh, no we have a small family, my mom, dad and me," she said.
"Well, you see I have a large family. There's Masi, Aditya, Jigyasa, Ranveer, Rashi, then I have younger brother named Sahil in America but he's only there for studies so he's coming back. Oh yeah, then there's Anu, my niece and Aditya's and Jigyasa's daughter she's married but she visits our mansion a lot. Then there's Tarun my best friend and his wife Laxmi. They are like part of our family so they are mostly at our mansion too. He was actually going to come today, but some important work came up. Uhhhh, yeah that's about it, I don't think I missed anyone"
Wow, Bani thought. "So you come from a small family and I have such a large family, do you think you will adjust?" Jai asked Bani questioningly. "Yes, with time and patience, I think everything will be fine," Bani answered calmly. Jai was taken back. Damn, he thought this is not how she's supposed to react. She was supposed to get scared and say no to the marriage, since he couldn't.
"That's true," Jai replied. "Alright, but I think we shouldn't get married right away. I mean we should wait about 3 months so we could get to know each other better. I don't think we should rush into anything." Okay Jai one more try let's hope she says no to this marriage, he told himself. "That's fine with me," Bani said shyly. It is, Jai screamed in his head. "We should go and tell everyone than," Jai said.
I can't believe I'm saying yes to this marriage, but for some reason it feels like it's the right decision, Bani thought stealing glances from Jai. As Bani and Jai walked downstairs , Jai was feeling suffocated. Oh my god, I'm going to get married he thought.
When they reached the living room where everyone was seated Jai announced their decision. "Um, Bani and I agreed to get married." Everyone started to get excited especially Masi. "But….." Jai began " We have decided not to get married until about 3 months when we get to know each other better."
"That's fine with us," Nishikant said happily. "So I guess we should start talking about the engagement," Nishikant looked at Masi. "Yes, we should," Masi replied equally happy. Jai saw Bani looking down and blushing. He didn't know why but he felt himself blush too. Everyone started congratulating the pair from Aditya's jokes to Jigyasa's fake smile to Ranveer and Rashi's teasing. Of course, Masi and Bani's parents were the first ones to congratulate them.
It was getting late, and the Walia's said their goodbyes to the Dixits. Jai was searching his pockets for his car keys when he remembered he left it on the table. Jai went back to go get it, but as he was about to enter the house, Bani showed up.
"You forgot this," Bani extended her hand with the car keys in it. "Thanks," Jai took the keys from her. As he took it, their hands brushed together for a moment. They both felt something, until Masi called out to Jai. "Coming," he yelled back. "Bye," he said with a killer smile. "Bye," she replied. As she closed the door she thought about his strong muscular hand brushing against her hand.
The ride back home, Jai was thinking about her hands, soft, small and silky. Hmmmm, Jai Walia getting married sounds bad. He paused for a second and thought about Bani. Or does it?
And from there, their journey began.
