Chapter 15 A
The next three days Bani felt that Jai was trying to accommodate her in every way he came home early called her in between. Bani was getting tired of his behavior. It looked like her marriage was not moving forward only.
She was lost in her thoughts in the garden when Adi comes from behind and asks her Bani what's troubling you now.
Bani: Adi uncle you had once said if I figured out that what I felt for Mr. Walia was clear to me I have won half the battle. But still I am I was before.
Adi: Bani what is it that you feel for him.
Bani: He is the most important person in my life and no one can make me complete the way he does. I love him uncle.
Adi: Then let me tell you something. To fall in love is easy but for it to cherish and grow you have to put in the right ingredients like these plants of yours. Bani just kept looking at Adi.
Adi: Just like these Plants you grow. Same way love requires time, understanding and a heart to give I don't think I have to tell you that because your are the most loving person I have come across. Why do you think Jai was so attracted to you in spite of your innocence? So learn to fight for your love and remember one thing everything is fair in love and war.
Bani resolved to use Jai's own tactics ignore him and show importance to people around him. So that he will learn to appreciate her more when he misses her.
Friday morning she was over the phone with Rano and she asked Bani to send some things for her when Pushkar was coming Just then Pushkar walked in to see Jai as he was leaving for Delhi that evening to bring his mother back.
Bani was surprised with the friendship Rano and Pushkar was sharing.
Bani: Pushkar after you meet Mr. Walia please can you come and see me. I want to send few things for Rano.
Pushkar: sure
Bani had packed some food items for rano and her dresses she had left when she had come for the wedding.
Pushkar comes in: Bani where is the packet for Rano.
Bani: Here it is. Pushkar I never knew that Rano and you ahd become such good friends.
Pushkar: Oh this time when I went with my mother she helped me with the doctors and was there during the time of the operation.
Bani: How come from my friend all of a sudden you moved to be the best friend of my sister are you trying to replace me with her.
Pushkar: Hey wait there We are still best friends and as for Rano she was there by my side during one the Bad times in my life and I didn't want to burden you with my worries with you just being married.
Bani: there is something else I wanted to ask you? Please don't get me wrong.
Pushkar: You know you can ask me anything.
Bani: Pushkar Was I more than a friend to you
Pushkar was zapped that Bani was asking this question now: why do you ask that now Bani
Bani: Please just answer the question? You know I always considered you as my best friend I thought you also felt the same way but Mr. Walia and Rano made some comments which has me slightly confused.
Pushkar: Just closed his eyes. I know you want the truth. Bani I don't know if I loved you but I always admired and cared for you and if I ever wanted to share my life with someone it would like a person with your qualities. But once I realized that you were in love with Mr. Walia I had given up on the notion that we could be more than friends.
Bani: So are you saying that if Mr. Walia didn't enter my life it was a possibility that we could have been more than friends.
Pushkar: Why worry about something that is never going to happen. I know for sure I will never come in-between your love for Mr. Walia.
Bani: Thank you for telling me the truth and now what your feelings for my sister are.
Pushkar: Bani you don't leave things half way. O.K, Rano for now is my best friends don't know what the future holds for us. But you will be the first to know if I want to take my friendship to another level. Now I am getting late, so the packet and any special message for your sister.
Bani: nothing I just spoke to her over the phone.
Bani was busy that evening as arranging the get together for Sahil and Rano. Next day Jai again reminded her about their evening out.
Sahils and Anu's friends were also around Bani's age and they all became friends with her too. The party was held by the pool side. Half of them were in the pool the rest were lazing around the pool side. Adi and Jigyasa were happy to see the children enjoying and Bani also with them. They had to go out so they left Bani in charge to care of the notorious gang.
Jai finished of his work quickly by afternoon and thought he would surprise Bani and today he was going to try to create the magic they shared during their honey moon. He felt three months was a long time to give Bani to accept him and he was through with taking cold showers in the middle of the night. And Lately Bani's behavior and attitude to him was creating confusion in his mind it was like taking a roller coaster ride. He wouldn't know what to expect. One minute she is fine the next minute she blows his head off and lately she has time for all but him and she has started neglecting him. It's high time to show his importance in her life.
But when Jai reached home he found the house to be empty then the servants mentioned that the party is at the pools side. He could hear lot of shouting and screaming as he approached the pool but was not prepared for the sight he saw. Bani with them.
She was in the pool playing ball. Girls had formed a team and boys on the other side. God what was going on in this house? He sees Bani catching the ball and the strap of her swim suit comes off but she is fully engrossed in the game that she hardly notices a thing. She had put up her hair in French knot which exposed her back completely. The guys were saying that Bani should be in their team as the girls won just because of her.
Bani: Next round I will be in your team and arranges the strap of her swim suit.
Girls: That's cheating. Boys cheering for Bani She just dives into the water and is going to resurface when she hears the voice that can hold her captive anywhere
Jai: What's going on here?
Seeing Jai's mood Bani knew this is not a good sign. She was moving to get out of the water when Anu answered.
Anu: Mamaji we are having a pool party. Dad and mum along with Bani mami had organized it for me and Sahil.
Jai was now in fits God knows where everyone's brains are these days in the pit I suppose and seeing now Bani in her swim wear out of water Jai was really mad.
Jai: Bani why don't you wear something decent.
Bani: Incase you failed to notice I was in the pool and I think I am appropriately dressed for that. Saying that Bani leaves.
Jai: Anu next time you come up with such bright ideas please leave Bani out of this.
When Jai leaves.
Anu's friends ask what was all that about.
Anu: OH that is his mamji in his usual state now days after he got married to mami.
Sahil's friend: Are you telling me that is Bani's husband.
Sahil: yes
Friend: Isn't he a little too old for her.
Sahil: Don't let mamji hear that. He is crazy about her.
Anu: Why do you all think he was mad, because mami was playing with us in the pool and he thinks mami is his and someone else seeing her in a swim suit? Thank God Mami didn't decide to wear that two piece suit or he would have had a fit here only.
Anu's friend: Well hope your mami doesn't fall into trouble because of us.
Sahil; in that department no worries .Mami knows to handle him very well.
Anu: She is the only person with whom I have seen mamaji plead. Rest of us he just passes orders.
Anu's friend : Your mami is such a nice lady but your mamji is one arrogant person. No wonder the tabloids describe his as a tiger on the prowl.
Sahil: Now you know guys what we have to live with.
Sahil's friend: But you really do have a beautiful aunt. God she must be only some were around our age. God knows how she got tied to that old man of yours.
Anu's friend: Well to get that answer we will have to ask Bani. Anu your mami is one beautiful and with one look in that swim suit could have any man floored.
Sail's friend: It looks to me as a beauty and the Beast pair.
Sahil: Don't let mamji hear that
Jai: Ending his call don't worry I heard it all. So now I have become the beast. After you finish the party Sahil I want you to finish the file I gave you yesterday by tomorrow morning.
Jai had not actually left the pool side he got a call on his mobile and was answering it around the bush the kids couldn't see this but he had heard the whole conversation and felt it was high time he gave Bani a piece of his mind. He wanted only his eyes to see Bani that way not every one.
Sahil: Now see guys because of you all I landed in trouble.
Jai enters the room and sees that Bani has just come out of the shower and has a wrap around.
Jai: Bani just what you are trying to prove here.
Bani: Well I should be asking that? Can't I enjoy myself?
Jai: Fine you want to go swimming come there is a private pool why don't we both go. Infact I remember that you were quite a good swimmer.
Bani: I am not interested
Jai: Why Bani because there isn't an audience to see you.
Bani: Mr. Walia just what is the problem with you. You never join any of your family gatherings doesn't mean I also can't join them.
Jai: I have no objection to you joining the family gatherings. But I don't like seeing you in a swimming pool with kids half my age.
Bani: In case you failed to notice those people are of my age group.
Jai: So now I am too old for you.
Bani: Stop putting words into my mouth. I never said anything of that sought. Is it my imagination or that the great Jai Walia is jealous of his wife.
Jai: Oh thank God you remembered and now I think it's high time I showed you that you are Jai walia's Wife and in one swift moment he was by her side sweeping her into his arms, he planted a lengthy kiss on those delicious parted lips. She smelled of lavender and tasted of cherries. Bani's eyes were wide open and startled. Briefly she resisted his embrace then sort of collapsed against him. But then he broke free so now you are going to be my woman. Jai removes his Jacket and tie and was unbuttoning his shirt
Bani was now getting mad seeing Jai's Behavior: I may be a lot of things but not your slave.
Jai: Also was in one of his moods. And that kiss he felt, he was soon loosing his control. You are mine what ever name you choose to give to this relationship.
Bani just took what was the closest thing in her hand, it was a flower vase and threw at him and said don't expect me to be at home always waiting for your bidding. But Jai caught it easily
She was threatening him and no one threatened Jai walia
And like a tiger about to catch its prey moved towards Bani One of his hands circled her upper arms and he dragged her towards him. Bani tried to kick him but Jai just tightened his hold on her and said. Are you threatning me Mrs. Jai Walia
Bani: Why
Anger and impatience swept through him, He tilted her head back, holding her face captive beneath his kissed her. His kiss was an assault, he kissed her hard he wanted her to feel his wrath, wanted to remind that she was his and in this house he was the man and she the woman. But as he kissed her he gentled his hard embrace. His fingers releasing her chin to cup her checks. She felt unbelievable in his arms. She was sweet and she was his and it didn't have to be this way. She had been his ever since she had walked into the office a year ago both of them knew that in their heart. He knew he wanted to protect and cherish her. But why did he always do it the wrong way.
Bani's swollen mouth trembled beneath. Her slim body quivering against his chest. His kiss softened and he caressed the length of her neck Stroking her satiny skin through the wrap around It seemed to Bani she was shuddering at each slow, lingering touch, playing her tenderly the way one would play the violin. She was melting in his arms melting to him.
He exhaled slowly his breathing was ragged his heart pounding. He wanted her to think only of him and he wanted her to surrender to him completely and willingly not like this in a fit of anger. As much as he wanted to kiss her senseless. He pressed the tip of his finger on her mouth don't ever threaten me.
She heard the hardness in his voice and felt that today she had pushed him too far. Shivering she was trying to pull her robe over the shoulder. Just then Massi knocks at the door
Jai: Still holding her with one arm and tracing her face with the tip of his finger. I will answer the door and go get dressed we have been invited to Mohan's house after that may be we could go for a drive.
That evening they had gone for the party at Jai's friend s house Mohan Khandewal Bani started feeling better but as night approached she felt tensed up.
Jai: Bani I am sorry for today after noon. I want to give this marriage another chance I am willing to come half way are you ready to take a chance. I want to relive those two weeks we had in Seychelles
Bani: You should know that by now I never refused you anything. She wanted to say more but for the torture Jai put her through she was not going to disclose her feelings for him because she felt that Jai held the power to bring her down to her knees. So before she surrendered herself to him Bani wanted Jai to be sure of his feeling for her
Jai: thinking to himself What was she saying? Bani I may be a difficult person to live with but you will always find me by your side and I want our relationship to work more than anything else.
Bani: Well tomorrow is a new begingin as they say.
Jai: Come here I liked it when we went for the honeymoon and you slept in my arms May be we could start from there?
Bani: Mr. Walaia you are just impossible. If I give you an inch you expect the whole yard.
That night Bani slept in jai's arms and for the first time she felt content and happy to be there in the arms of the man she loved.
