Jai noticed the sudden change in Bani. She had fallen quiet and the silence was getting on his nerves. He stopped the car along the road andd looked squarely at her.
'thum hein kya hua?' he asked.
Bani was surprised at the sudden question. She looked questioningly at him.
'Kya hua?' she asked.
'meine thumse ek sawal poocha raha hoon uske badle mein muje jawab chahiyei sawwal nahin…' he said biting his annoyance.

'kya?'
Sawal pe sawal' he muttered. 'thumhare mood ko kya hua?'
'Kya hua hein?'
"thum muje irritate kar rahi ho Bani……'
'isiliye maine maasi se kaha ki aap ko thakleef math de. Mein kaisse bhi chali aati…' she said turning towards him annoyed.
'yeh kya kah rahi ho thum?'
'teek hi tho kah rahi hoon mien….. you are a busy man Mr.Walia. I know you will be annoyed to leave your busy work'.
'kya mathlab?' he frowned.
'I told maasi not to bother you but she said ek pati keliye apni patni se important koi kaam nahin hein…' she glared.
'maasi ne teek tho kaha.. agar thum hein kuch hojatha tho… log mujse hi poochenge…..'
'koi nahi poochenge…….' She said childishly.
'thumhari behene tho poochenge……?
'Nahi mein ek letter chod doongi ki koi kisise kuch math poochein……'
He was amused at her childishness. 'thum hein letter likne ki time kab milega Bani kya thum pen aur letter pad lekar goomthi ho?'
Bani laughed at her foolishness. Their conversation was getting on a lighter mode. Jai's face warmed at the sight of her. She looked away immediately sensing awkwardness. He tapped her head affectionately.

A week had passed…. Two more to go

Maasi noticed visible change in Jai. He was home early these days. And bani on the other hand remained annoyed and irritated.
Bani was getting ready for bed Jai walked in. the TV was on. She heard him in the room she switched of the set. And put the remote on the side table.
'thumhein dekhna hein tho thum dekh sakthi ho'. He said.
'Mein bas yoohi dekh rahi thi.'
He stood hesitantly looking at her and said, 'Bani kal ek party hein Mr.Varma ki yehan humein jana chahiyein.
'Not again..' she muttered.
'I know you don't like parties but…'
'It's okay mr.Walia…aap logon ki party itni short notice mein kaise hojathe hein? '
'Kyon?.. thumhein koi other engagments hein?'
'koi engagement nahi… but I most certainly prefer to stay away from these kind of parties.' She said tossing a cushion aside.
'Why?' he was anxious. Jai was amazed at himself the way he was getting carried away with her thoughts and the way she spoke, and the most her sense humor. Her selflessness. He liked everything about her and talking to her always brought smile to his lips.
Bani felt him stare at her the uneasiness was creeping in again. She sat down on her bed.
'thum ne bataya nahi…' he said sitting down on his side of the bed.
'Han… woh… she cleared her throat. I am sorry for being blunt Mr.Walia…. people are so fake in your parties. They have something on their mind and something else on the lips.'
'Jaise …'
She thought for a while and said, ' aap ki who business associate Mr.Saxena……' before she could finish Jai laughed.
'See this what we miss when we go to parties.. Sab logon ki zuban pe hasi tho hogi lekin sab fake. Aur aap bhi unmein se ek hein Mr.Walia.' she was blunt gain.
His smile disappeared. A scowl appearedinstead.
'meine aap ko bhi fake smile dethe hue dekha hein… he laughed again.
'thum bhi na…'
'good night Mr.Walia…' Bani said suddenly and switched of the light.
Whats happening BAni? Don't you think he is relaxing little too much with you… detach Bani detach… she warned herself. Mr.Walia aap apni old self banker hi rahiyein. Please god don't you put things in my mind. Mein apni zindagi ro roke guzar na nahi chahthi. She pulled the quilt over her head.

On the other side of the bed Jai warned himself. Keep your distance Jai. Leave her alone. Do not make things complicated. He shut his eyes tightly pushing the thoughts of her.

Bani walked into their room to get her paper and sketches from the cupboard. Jai was sitting on her day bed and watching some thing on the Tv. As she was getting out of the door Maasi walked in…
'Kya dekh rahi ho beta?' she asked him
Pata nahin maasi ek puranan film hein shayad…' he said turning his attention back to the TV.
'munna thumhara party mein kab jana hein?' she went and sat beside him.
'8pm maasi…'
Bani thum bhi aakar beito beta yeh Bachan saab ki movie hein.'
Maasi invited her.
Bani put her things away and sat with maasi. The movie was mili. Bani had seen the movie long back and it was a tragedy one. The women were engrossed in the movie Jai heard maasi sniffing. He turned his face to watch them. Tears were running down their face. BAni rubbed her eyes when his eyes fell on.
'Kya thum log….. yeh bas ek movie hein..' he said holding back his smile.
'pata hein beta leikn….
'maasi aap bhi naa…
Bani got up from her seat and went out blushing furiously.

Bani was getting ready for the party when Jai walked in from his bath. She wore a black sari with blue sequences and stones. She looked gorgeous. She looked at her once more in the mirror and ignoring his stare went out of the room hurriedly.

Bani's eyes swept her husband he looked dashing in a black blazer. She forced her eyes away from him. Maasi. Jigyasa Aditya and dadi were ready when Jai walked down to the living room. Mr.Varma was their old family friend.
The party was in full swing when they reached. Mr'Varma welcomed his guests with full of smiles. He commented on Jai and Bani. Jigyasa rolled her eyes.
'Mrs.Jyoti Saighal walked up to them and gave a spectacular smile. 'Kya bath hein Mr& mrs.Walia.. dono chamk rahein hein'.
Bani and Jai smiled at the woman. When the woman moved away Bani said. 'Suna… kuch bhi dilse nahin tha…
Jai smiled.
'Jai……' shrieked Roshni. Ignoring Bani. Roshni caught Jai's hand.
'roshni..'
'shukr tho hein thum mera naam tho nahin booli….'Roshni chided drawing him away from bani and maasi.
Maasi gritted her teeth. Jigyasa's eyes sparkled. Bani stood least bothered.
'Jai meine suna hein ki thum London ja rahein ho… thum muje chod kar kaise ja sakthe ho?' she was flirting with him shamelessly.
'behave yourself Roshni.' He said taking a drink in his hand.
'Mera kya hoga Jai?'
'Kya hona hein?' he was least interested in her antics.
'Mein thumhare bhina nahi jeepaaonga Jai….' She said again.
'Acha! Thum itni saal tho mere bhina tho jeethi rahi Roshni. You can continue doing so..' he tried dismissing her.
'Jai thum abhi bhi mujse naraz ho….maaf kardona…..' she said looking in his eyes.
'Roshni thum mera mood karab math karo….. mera aur thumhare beech mein kuch nahin hein.. get that in your head..' he muttered. While talking to Roshni his eyes searched for BAni. She was talking and laughing with a man which infuriated him all the more.
