Adi: Kya hua Nurse…? Aap kuch bolti kyun nahin?
Nurse: Er… there… may have been… a mistake.
Jai, Ranveer and Pushkar: KYA?!!!
Jigs: What the hell do you mean a mistake? Aap kehna kya chahti hai…
Nurse: Sir, aapki patni ka naam kya hai?
Jai: Bani… Bani Walia!!
Nurse: Aur usse kab admit kiya gaya tha?
Jai, impatiently: Kal raat ko, puri raat unhi ka operation chal raha that… what do you mean mistake, saaf saaf kahiye!!
Nurse: I'm so sorry sir, jis patient ka dehaant hua hai… uska naam toh… Rani Mallya hai! Bani Walia should be coming out of the OT any minute now sir!
Again, pindrop silence. Shattered nerves find it hard to accept what the nurse is saying.
Pia: Iska matlab… Banidi…?
Nurse: Ji maam, aapki bahen ko kuch nahi hua…
Jai walks quickly towards the nurse who cowers backwards terrified by the look on his face. He gets closer and closer and the nurse is about to shout for help when she is quickly lifted clean off her feet into a bear hug and is surprised to hear a deep husky laugh in her ear. His family all laugh and cry in relief, hugging each other through teary smiles.
Jai puts her down onto the floor and kisses her cheek.
Jai: Thank you, thank you so much!!
The nurse giggles shyly - who wouldn't when kissed by this guy?! ;-)
Doctor: Thank you toh aapko mujhse kehna chaahiye Mr Walia!!
Everyone turns in surprise to see Bani's doctor.
Doctor: But I think I would prefer mithai rather than a kiss thank you!
Jai, confused: Thank you… mithai… aap kya keh rahe hai? Bani he kaha, Nurse ne kaha unka operation ho gaya, sab kuch theek toh hai na, my wife and child…?
Doctor: Kuch toh baat samajhye Mr Walia, aapke ghar Lakshmi aayi hai! It's a girl!!
Pia squeals with delight and hugs Pushkar. Jigs and Dadi, Adi, Ranveer all break into smiles, the cloud over their heads thankfully gone.
Jai hugs the doctor smiling and laughing in ecstasy. He couldn't believe that just a few moments ago his world had fallen apart, and now it was whole again, whole and brighter than ever!
Jai: Kya main Bani se milsakta hoon?
Doctor: Of course! Lekin yaad rakhiye she still needs some rest. Hame dono ki salaamati ke liye C-section karna pada, and she will need time to recover!
Jai goes towards the room they have taken Bani to. Pia starts to go after him but Pushkar stops her.
Pushkar: Unhe kuch waqt ke liye akela chhod do Pia, tum Rano aur Saahil ko phone karke bulaalo, voh airport se sidha yaha aaye toh achcha hoga.
Jai runs to Bani's room, turns the corner and stops at the door. She looks like she is bathed in light, holding a little parcel swathed in blankets to her chest. Bani looks up at him and smiles weakly, and Jai feels like the dark shadow that had eclipsed the sunlight in his life, has suddenly moved away.
Bani: Hi Papa!
Jai, tears in his eyes, goes to her and sits on the bed. He looks into her arms and sees the most beautiful little face he has ever laid eyes on. Tears of joy fall down his cheeks as he takes his daughter in his arms. Her cute little finger, little toes, her eyes, button nose. He kisses each one in turn, unable to believe his fortune.
Jai, staring into the twinkling eyes of his daughter: Bilkul apni Maa pe gayi ho.
Bani cannot stop her tears either as she sees the happiness in Jai's face. Even if she died now she would have no complaints as the last thing she would see would be the man she loved most in the world holding their child in his arms.
Jai kisses her forehead and pulls her into his arms.
Jai: I thought I'd lost you.
Bani: Aap ko chod ke main kaha jaanewali thi?
Jai: I'm sorry Bani… meri vajah se ye sab-
Bani, placing her hand on his lips: Bhuljaaye beeti baaton ko. Hamara yeh chhota sa parivaar – that's all that matters now!
Jai: Vaada karta hoon me tumse, ab tum dono par me kabhi bhi koi aanch nahin aane doonga…
Bani smiles and rests her head on his shoulder, feeling warm and safe in his strong arms.
Jai, after a few minutes: Ek baat kahoon?
Bani, sighing contentedly: Hmmm…?
Jai: Hamari beti itni cute hogi maine kabhi socha hi nahin tha… on second thoughts voh thankfully apne Papa par hi gayi hai!
Bani, hitting him hard: JAI!!!
So kaisa laga? All in a better mood with me now? 😆
