PART 7

He pulls the sheet back and flinches as he sees silky black hair and creamy skin….. he jolts backward, turns, and leans against the wall for support, shaking and saying her name over and over again "Bani…bani…..meri bani…."

Adi and Ranveer run forward and pull the sheet back again. A young girl of 20 or so lies there, her face battered and bruised, unrecognisable….

J: Nahi, mein jaanta hoon, vo meri Bani nahin hai, NAHIN HAIN!!!

Adi: Lekin Jai, tum yeh kaise keh sakte ho.. uska chehra to puri tarha se….

J: STOP IT!!! JUST SHUT UP!! Mein jaanta hu usse, I don't care if you find a picture of her sisters in her pocket THAT IS NOT BANI WALIA!!!!!!

DCP: Lekin Mr Walia uske paas vo purse aur kangan… aap hi ne kaha tha ke…..

Jai punches his fist into the wall: I DON'T CARE!!! She's my wife goddammit!!! Mein jaanta hu ke vo Bani nahin hai….. vo Bani ho hi nahi sakta…….

He storms out of the room and Adi and Ranveer run after him calling for him to stop and calm down.

Meanwhile, back at Walia House…..

Jigs: Dadi aap… aap chinta mat kijiye. Jai bhaiya abhi aate hi honge…

Dadi: Tum mujhse baat mat karo Jigyaasa, mein tumhare mu se ek lavs nahin sunna chahti!!

Ignoring Jigs' shocked face Dadi stands up to face her:

Dadi: Khush ho tum ab?? Ab dil ko chen mila?!! Arre kya kuch nahin kiya us bechari bachi ne tumhaare liye!! Tumhaare kehene par vo Jai ke saath mandap me bhaitgayi. Jab tumhaari beti ne voh ghalati ki thi, jis ki vajhe se is parivaar ki izzat dav pe lag gayi thi, to vo Bani hi thi jisne apne sammaan ki parvah kiye bina Anu ki izzat bachaayi!! Tumse hazaar bezati, lakho taane sunli….. uff tak nahin kiya!!

Jigs looks shameful, but her arrogance hasn't quite dissipated….

Jigs: Ha mujhe pata hai, bahut achi hai vo Bani!! Main hi buri hu!! Kya mein apni bhai ki, apni baccho ki khushi nahin chahti?? Jabse un teeno beheno ne is ghar mein kadam rakha hai, is ghar ki shanti hi maano bhang ho chuki hai!!! Mein maanti hu ke Bani ne kuch accha kiya hai is ghar ke liye, lekin ye bhi sach hai Bani ne hamesha uss Pia aur Rano ki support ki he, chaahe vo sahi ho ya ghalat. Issi liya to un me itni himmat aagayi ke ek ne mere bhai ka dil tod diya, aur dussri mera beta leke bhaag gayi!!

Dadi: Tumhe kya lagta hai Jigyaasa, ke Bani ko apni beheno ki in harqato pe dukh nahin hota. Issi liye to vo ab tak yaha ruki thi! Vo kal raat ghar chhod ke tumhaare vajha se chaligayi!! Aur agar usse kuch hai Jigyaasa, to yaad rakhna, me to kya, bhagwaan bhi kabhi tumhe maaf nahin karega!!

Jigs: Mujhe isse koi farakh nahin padta!! Aap jo chaahe keh lijiye, chaahe jo bhi ho jaaya mein kabhi un beheno ko maaf nahin kar paoongi…..

Dadi: Maafi?? Maafi?!!! Kitni akkad hai tumme Jigyaasa!! Tum kaun hoti ho Bani ko maaf karne wali?? Tum bahut kehti ho na, ke tum apne bhai ke liya, apne beto ke liye kuch bhi karogi, bas vo kush rahe?? Aur tumhari Bani ke le liye nafrat jaayaz hai kyun ke usne tumhare parivaar walo ka dil dukhaya hai???

Ek pal ke liye sochogi to pata chalegi ke Bani bhi tumhaare jaisi hai.

Usne bhi jo kuch kiya apni chhoti beheno ke liye kiya, apne chhote se parivaar ke liye kiya. Usne bhi tumhaari tarha apni chhoti beheno ko apni bachho ki tarah sambhala hai. Tum dono apne parivaar ke liye hi lad rahi ho! Farakh yehi hai ke Bani ne hamesha pyaar aur smajhdaari se kaam liya hai, aur tumne, sirf ghuroor aur akkad se.

Tears fall down Jigyaasa's face as she realises she has no answer for dadi's comments.

Just then Jai storms into the house with Adi and Ranveer. Dadi stops him and questions him, her voice shaking with fear. He looks at her but cannot answer. Ranveer steps forward:

R: Dadi….. dadi….. Police ne….

Dadi: Police ne kya Ranveer? Police ne kya??!!!!

R: Police ne…. hame jo laash dikhayi vo …. Uska chehra bahut buri tarah se kuchla hua tha….. hum teekh se dekh nahin paaye…..

J: Nahin…. vo Bani nahin thi…. Nahin thi vo meri Bani…….

Adi: Police ne ye maan liya hai ke… kyun ke vo purse aur kangan Bani ke the…… aur us ladki ki umar, kad, baal…… sab Bani ke jaise hi thi….. to issi liye….

He is unable to finish the sentence and sits down, covering his face, trying to stop the tears…..

R: Police ne yeh maan liya hai ke….. vo…..vo Bani mami hi thi……

Dadi's eyes widen as she backs towards the sofa, her whole body shaking. Jigyaasa goes to support her and they both sit down in shock…. Crying in disbelief…….

Jai lets out an anguished cry, picks up a vase and throws it at the wall. It shatters and he collapses against the staircase, crying as if the world had come to an end. It had, at least for him…..he just wanted the pain to stop…. He wanted her back in his arms!! He would do anything… anything if only she would come back……

… "Tsk tsk Mr Walia, us vase ki kya ghalati thi…. Lagta hai aapko insaano ki tarah cheezo ka bhi khayal nahin rakhna aata!!"

They hear a voice dripping with disdain and all turn towards the front door……

It's all unravelling now!! 😆 Sorry for dragging it a bit, i got carried away in the writing!! hope you enjoy it!! 😊
