PART 26
For the last hour Pia has been helping Rano to get ready for the reception. Until now they have avoided mentioning Bani but Pia had noticed the look of disappointment on Rano's face when she walks in with her clothes and jewellery. Pia knew that she had hoped it would be Bani helping her to get ready.
Pia: Ab hum voh baat kar sakte hai jo tum pichhle ek ghante se avoid kar rahi ho?
Rano looks saddened and Pia sees her eyes start to well up with tears. Rano is thinking of what she had heard her didi telling Mr Walia the night they came back from Scotland.
Pia: Please Rano… ab ro mat. Kya tumne Banidi se baat karne ki koshish ki?
Rano, crying: Kaise Pia? Maine us raat di ki saari baatein sunli thi. Voh kehrahi thi ke voh mujhse naraaz nahi, voh dukhi hai, kyun ke maine unke dil ko thez pohchaayi hai, unka vishwaas toda hai. Ab me kis mu se unse jaake baat karoon?
Pia: Haan Rano, maine Di se savere baat ki thi. Unki baton se to yahi lag raha tha uska dil dukha hai…. main ye nahi kehrahi ke voh sahi hai aur tum ghalat, mein sirf yahi keh rahi hoon Banidi kitni emotional hai yeh hum dono jaante hai.
I guess… unhe is dukh ko bhulane main waqt lagega… I think you should talk to her. Agar tum usse bataado ke tumne kyun aisa decision liya toh shaayad…
Rano: Mujhe yaad hai Di ne ek baar kaha tha jo chot dushman de voh bhar bhi jaata hai, lekin apno ke di hui chot hamesha chubhti hai.
She starts to sob at the thought that she has hurt her sister so badly. Pia puts her arms around her, trying her best to comfort her.
Pia: Please Rano, chup ho jao, ro mat. Sab kuch theek ho jayega!! Waqt badalne me der nahin lagti! Jab me shaadi ki mandap se bhaag gayi thi to meri jagah pe Banidi ko Mr Walia se shaadi karni padi thi. Kitni nafrat ki thi unhone Di se, kitne taqleefe di thi, kitne taane sunaaye the Di ko! Aur aaj-
Jatin: WHAT?!!!!
Pia and Rano jump as they hear Jatin shout so loudly. Bani and Jatin had come up to find Pia and Rano. They had arrived outside the room just as Rano had begun crying. Bani had moved forward to try and stop them from talking anymore but Jatin had held her back and fixed her on the spot with a smouldering glare… she had been too afraid to move!!
On hearing how Jai had treated his friend Jatin had lost all control and exclaimed loudly forgetting that Pia and Rano had not even known he was in India let alone at the party!!!
Rano: Jatin bhaiyya?!!!
She looks at him in disbelief and then breaks into a wide smile. Running up to him she hugs him tightly, elated at seeing him again.
Jatin hugs her back and pulls Pia into a hug as well. Pulling them away he looks at them both and asks how his favourite troublemakers are.
Rano giggles: Jatin bhaiyya, aap America se kab aaye?!! Aur yaha kya kar rahe ho?!
Pia smiles too: Humne aap ko kitna miss kiya Jatin bhaiyya, kaha the aap? Koi phone na koi khabar, aap to jaise ghayab hi hogaye!
Jatin's smiles fades as he remembers what he had heard as he and Bani had walked into the room.
Jatin: Yeh kya suna maine Rano?? Tum aur Bani ek doosre se…. Pia tum aur Jai Walia…. Yeh ho kya raha hai?!!
Rano and Bani cannot meet his eyes and turn away. Pia tells Jatin everything… from their move to Mumbai… to Pia eloping with Pushkar… to Bani's wedding with Mr Walia… to Rano's wedding with Sahil and the friction it had caused. Jatin listened in disbelief that the three girls he had known as so happy and carefree had been through so much alone.
He takes Bani's hand and then takes Rano's, sitting them both down on the bed and kneeling on the floor himself.
Jatin: Dekho tum dono meri taraf…. Kya hai yeh….? Kya ho gaya hai tum logon ko Mumbai aake?! Jin beheno ko me Mt Abu mein jaanta tha voh to ek doosre ki jaan hua karti thi!! You were inseparable!! Aur ab…
Bani: Aisa nahin hai Jatin, mein ab bhi… … lekin… …
Jatin: Lekin kya Bani?!! Badi behen ho tum Rano ki for god's sake!! Haan ghalati ki thi usne lekin uska matlab yeh nahin ke tum usse apne se door karke unhe sazaa do!!
Aur Rano tum…? Tum itna bhi nahin samajhti ke Bani par kya beeti hogi jab tum yeh ghar chhod kar Saahil ke saath bhag gayi thi? Kitne jawaab dene pade honge usne? Kya unka haq nahin banta ke voh tumse thodi naraaz ho jaye?!! You should have known that if you had just once come to her and explained your behaviour and shown that you understood her and were sorry for breaking your promise then her anger would have dissipated immediately?
Instead tum dono apne aap ko ek doosre se door rakh ke khudh hi sazaa bhugat rahe ho?!!
Bani and Rano look at each other with tears in their eyes. Whatever happened, however much they fought, nothing could detract from the fact that they loved each other dearly and that all three sisters were lost without each other.
Rano: I'm sorry Di, I'm so sorry, mein aapko dukh pohchaana bilkul bhi nahin chahti thi, lekin…
Bani: Bhuljao Rano… ab jo hogaya so hogaya. Lekin vaada karo tum phir kabhi mera vishwaas nahin todogi. Maine hamesha yeh chaaha hai ke tum aisa koi mauka hi na do kisi ko, ke voh mere vishwaas ko ghalat saabit kar sake. Tum dono mera ghuroor ho… koi tumpe ungli bhi uthaaye mujhse yeh bardaasht nahin hoga.
She wipes Rano's tears and hugs her little sister, feeling as if a great burden has been lifted from her chest. Pia wipes her own tears and hugs them both as Jatin smiles and looks on.
"Meri duniya hai… tujhme kahi… tere bin me kya… kuch bhi nahin…
Meri jaan me… teri jaan hai… o saathi mere…"
None of them notice Jai Walia standing at the doorway. He watches the three sisters and Jatin, and realises he has no place here at the moment. His heart heavy as lead, he turns around and walks away from the bedroom, back towards the party...
I know the patch-up part between Bani and Rano doesn't quite gel perfectly and i do apologise - as you can see, the point of the reconciliation is not Bani and Rano at all!!
Call it... artistic license!! 😳
