PART 18
Bani finishes combing her hair and suddenly realises she cannot hear a sound from Jai! She assumed he had gone to watch television or something and goes to the front room to look for him. She turns the corner and suddenly hears a loud bang – she jumps with fright, covers her ears and tightly closes her eyes.
She hears Jai's deep laughter and gingerly opens her eyes. He is bent over laughing uncontrollably at her, holding a champagne bottle. She looks at the bottle then back up at him in shock and realises what the bang had been. Colour rushes to her face as she is embarrassed at her silly reaction. She runs over to Jai and hits his arm while he protects his arm and continues to laugh…
Jai: Bani tumhaara chehra dekhne laayak tha, honestly!!!
Bani: IT'S NOT FUNNY!!! Meri to jaan hi nikal gayi thi!! Itni subah-subah champagne kholne ki kya zaroorat padgayi aapko??!!!
Jai smiles indulgingly, and placing his hand on her shoulder he turns her around to the middle of the room. On the table in the centre is a large cake, surrounded by pink and white balloons and a huge bouquet of flowers! Her hands cover her mouth in surprise as she slowly walks to the table and reads what is written on the cake.
"Where heavens meet, I find you kasamh se…
To my darling wife Bani – All my love, Jai"
Her eyes moisten as she looks up and sees him standing next to her. She hugs him tightly and he kisses her head.
Jai: Janamdin mubaarak ho Bani.
She blows out the candles and cuts the cake and feeds him a piece. He playfully bites her fingers, making her giggle. He then feeds her from the same piece, staring into her eyes as he does so.
He puts the cake down and wipes his fingers, noticing some cream on Bani's lips. She sees him staring at her.
Bani: Kya hua Jai… aise kyun dekh rahe ho?!
Jai: Tumhaare honthon pe icing laga hua hai.
Bani lifts her hand to wipe her mouth but Jai stops her. He puts his hands around her waist, pulling her as close to him as possible. She finds it hard to breathe as he bends his head and kisses her lips, his hands reaching up her back to sweep through her long thick hair. She kisses him back, wanting him, needing him desperately. Time stands still, and after what seems like an age, with immense reluctance he pulls away and licks his lips, grinning mischieviously.
Jai: Ab theek hai.
Bani still has her eyes closed. She slowly opens them and blushes furiously feeling a heat in her soul that she had only ever felt once before – except that time it had been blamed on the drugs in her drink…
Jai: Mein tumhaare liye ek tohfa laya hoon Bani.
Bani: Ek aur?! Iski kya zaroorat thi Jai?
Jai: Nahin Bani, kal raat maine jo tumhe diya tha, voh to bas tumhaari amaanat thi, jo mein lautaa raha tha. Yeh raha tumhaara asli tohfa.
He pulls a small box out of his pocket and places it in her hand.
She slowly opens it and gasps in delight at what she sees. A dainty gold chain on which hang two gold letters which have been intricately entwined to create one beautiful pendant – JB.
He takes it out of the box and reaches behind her to place it around her neck. She runs a hand over it and looks up at Jai.
Bani: It's perfect…
Jai: Maine especially tumhaare liye banvaaya hai Bani. Jab tak hum saath rahenge, mein tumhaare gale mein yeh pendant dekhna chahata hoon. Is J or B ki tarha tum aur mein bhi kabhi alag na hone paye.
She stands on tiptoe and kisses his cheek.
Bani: Is pendant ko me apne se kabhi alag nahin karoongi Jai. Thank you.
"Lagta hai yeh kyu mujhe… sadiyon se chaahu tujhe… mere sapno me aake… apna mujhko banaake… mujhpe tu kar ehsaan hai… jiya dhadak dhadak… jiya dhadak dhadak… jiya dhadak dhadak jaaye……"
The phone rings to announce the arrival of their car downstairs.
Jai smiles: Chalo Bani. Aaj mein tumhe Edinburgh dikhaata hoon.
On reaching the lobby they are greeted by their driver for the day, and led towards a silver Mercedes waiting in the hotel drive. The sun is shining and there is a light breeze which chooses to play gently with Bani's hair. Jai opens the door for her like a true gentleman and then gets in himself.
Jai asks the driver: So what do you suggest first of all then?
Driver: Well, the main attraction in this city is most obviously Edinburgh Castle. You can't come to this city and not visit there sir! There's such a scenic walk up to there too, the views will take your breath away!
You know sir, today's had the loveliest weather we've seen all month!! Your beautiful wife must be a good luck charm!
Jai puts his arm around his "beautiful wife" and smiles at her.
Jai: She certainly is.
The drive through Edinburgh city is so picturesque! They drive through the city centre. They pass a lovely little boutique and Jai suddenly asks the driver to stop the car.
Bani: Kya hua Jai?
Jai: Chalo andar… … behes mat karo na Bani, chalo mere saath!
Jai goes inside and after a little hesitation Bani follows him. She sees him talking to one of the sales assistants who looks towards her and smiles. Jai comes towards her grinning mischeviously.
Jai: Bani maine tumhaare liye kuch kapde chune hai, unhe jaake try karlo.
Bani: KYA? Jai, yaha se kaunse kapde me pehensakunge!! Kya mazaak kar rahe ho, ab chalo na!
Jai: Meri ek baat nahin sunogi Bani? .... (sigh) chalo koi baat nahin, waise bhi tum mera kyun sunogi… … koi baat nahin, chalon.
Bani, shaking her head: Aap bhi na, bilkul bachcho ki tarha behave karte ho!!
Jai grins sheepishly at her and she follows the sales assistant into the changing room.
Jai starts sits down on one of the couches in the changing room and thinks back on the mornings events. He smiles to himself as he remembers kissing her. He has a sudden idea and makes a phone call to the hotel. Just as he puts the phone down he sees Bani poke her head shyly out of the changing room.
Jai: Waha kya kar rahi ho Bani, yaha bahar aao, mujhe dekhne do naa!
Bani: Jai, yeh achcha nahin lagta, please don't make me…
Jai: Baniiiii…….
She rolls her eyes and walks out of the room, stopping in front of him. He stands up, looking her up and down, walking around her, grinning widely at what he sees. She is dressed in a beautiful pink summer dress that fits her slender figure perfectly, ending in flowing flair just below her knees. Thin straps sit on her shoulders and the dress cuts very low. By all means, an extremely sexy outfit – but on her it was something out of this world!!!
Bani: Ab me jaake change karloon please?!!
Jai, to the sales assistant: That's perfect, thank you! If you could please pack her other clothes, she'll keep this on.
Bani: Jaiii!!! Mein aisi dresses nahin pehente, please….
He put his hand round her shoulders and steers her towards the counter, pays for the dress and takes her back to the car.
Jai: Agar tum mujhe suits se nikaalke jeans pehena sakti hai, to main bhi tumhe sari ke badle dress mein nahi dekhsakta? … You look beautiful.
Bani smiles shyly and they get back into the car.
