The captor and the captive

Tarun stood and watched his friend who stood facing his backto him. He was standing near thewindow his hands were curling and uncurling into fists. Tarun knew the rage and helplessness. He did give him a plan but his friend was too arrogant not to consider it. Tarun knew the plan was a preposterous one but he couldn't come up with anything else. There was no time and they have to do something too soon to stop Randhir Dixit. His friend had no idea how the important decision was leaked. There was too little time and his dream to become number one in the field would come crashing down if his opponent has won over him. Randhir Dixit was becoming a threat to Jai Walia for the past few months. Two of his business went to him under his nose and he did not know how that happened. There was someone in his team who is leaking the secrets to him. they would find out very soon but now the priority was to get the business and for that Randhir Dixit's attention should be diverted what could be better than to kidnap his sister and create havoc in his life to get him out of the way. Tarun knew it was very cheap and dangerous but there was nothing coming up in his mind to help his friend. Jai had worked hard to lose something he believed he would get if it was not one of his staff betrayed him.

"ehem'.' Tarun cleared his throat. 'What have you decided to do?'

Jai Walia turned from the window and looked at him. His face expressionless and in his deep masculine voice he said, 'Alright Tarun let's do it. What do you suppose we should do'?

Tarun was taken back he did not expect jai would concede. His friend did not have any choice the business was important to him.

Jai walked to his seat and looked at his friend. 'Tell me the plan'.'

Bani sat in her room stuffed her duffel bag few personnel items. She tied the bag and looked around. She should get out now.. this was the time. She had asked Rohit to arrange a taxi for her.. she took the duffel bag and tiptoed out of her room. She looked at her house before stepping out. To her surprise she did not have to sneak form the prying eyes of her guard. He was fast asleep on the chair in a slumped position. She took cautious step she did not want to wake anyone and more over she couldn't give the reason for her action.. she couldn't look at her brother's face and tell him'. Bani's thoughts were interrupted as a hand came and covered her mouth. A tremor ran through her. she struggled to free her from the iron grip a moment later a small kerchief touched her face and she felt drowning into a black pitch.

An hour later.

They carried her inside a small cottage some 70 km away from town. She was still unconscious. He took her petite body in his arms and carried her to a room and put her on the bed with her duffel bag. Closing the door noiselessly he turned to his friend.

'I have a feeling this is going to be all wrong.. my instinct say so..' he whispered.

'Then why did you not tell me we should have cancelled it.' whispered the other man.

'Shut up Tarun the feeling came only after picking her up. Since we are on to it let's pray our plan succeeds.. let me pray to God that son of a'. attentions diverts to his sister.'

Tarun patted on Jai's shoulders. 'well, why were you so adamant to carry the plan by yourself? We could have hired someone for this kind of work you know there are so many people out there''

'And jeopardize her life.. no way she is going to suffer because of our selfish deeds I don't trust anyone not even you..' he stressed the last word.

Tarun chuckled. 'This not your kind of job Jai..'

'You're damn well right I am not a kidnapper.' He spat.

'Okay, okay let's not fight.. how do you propose we call him and say that his sister is kidnapped?'

Jai glared at him. 'This was your plan Sablok how the hell do I know you are criminal lawyer you should know all these things''

'I am not a criminal lawyer Jai..'

'you are now.. you criminal'.. its because of you I did that was unthinkable..' he ran his hand through his hair in frustration.

Tarun sat down next to him. 'Alright I'll take all the blame my friend we will wait for morning and give Randhir a call tell him his sister is with us I mean with kidnaper we will demand a ransom and it will go as we have planned Jai.'

Jai nodded. They would call him demand ransom and give him another call later, a day later this was a three days plan and Jai prayed it to get it over soon.

Bani woke up she felt giddy she sat back on the bed and looked around. Where was she? She got up and ran to the door. The door was locked. She pulled the handle with all her might kicked the door and screamed. A hand had grabbed her yesterday and she did not remember anything fear captured her. she sat on the floor slumped.

Few minutes later she heard footsteps approaching her door. Her heart beat rose she got up from the floor and moved back her heart in her mouth. The door opened and she looked at the two men who walked in they have covered their faces by pulling a black mask over their heads. She backed out in fear. 'who, who are you..' she stammered.

'sorry for the inconvenience you will be free soon until then make use of the facilities we provide you here.' He spoke with heavy accent. Bani stared at him.

'Make use of the facility? What the hell are you talking about? Release me now'' she demanded trying to sound courageous.

She heard him chuckle. 'there is the washroom he pointed the door next to her and your breakfast will be ready in five minutes'.

They left her shutting the door and Bani screamed again. the door opened instantly and the man heavy built man the tall one rushed towards her and said bitingly. 'another scream you will be dead meat.' He stared at the small face. He saw the fear in her eyes. as he backed from her he heard her saying. 'I hate you.. I hate you..'

Bani sat on the bed crying her heart out. She was on her way out of her house. She wanted to get out of the house out of her brother's sight. She couldn't spent a minute under one roof after learning he was trying to get her out of the will their father had left. That night she cried her heart out. She loved her brother and in her wildest dream she did not expect that from him.

How could he have a cruel heart? What would he do when he learns that his sister was kidnapped? Would he let her die that would make him get her part of the property easily. A tremor ran through her. this was it she had lived her life and this was the end. She knew there was no getting out of this danger. What would she do in the situation like this? She will make their life living hell. Yes she would make their life a living hell. Any ways she would be murdered her brother will not pay them any kind of ransom. She was sure about it. he would let her rot in hell. She sat on the bed shed all the tears that was left in her.

Jai and Tarun had their breakfast in silence Tarun went near the room Bani was locked in he heard her muffled cry he returned to Jai and told him the girl was crying.

'I shouldn't have gone ahead with this Tarun I know you meant well but this was too much we have stooped too low', he said smashing his fists in the table.

Tarun did not comment. Jai was right he cursed the idea of kidnapping that came to his mind but the harm was done and there was no way other than go ahead with what they have done.

They sat in silence for a while and Jai got up and marched upstairs to the room the girl was locked. He knocked and then opened the door.

He heard the bathroom door click he stepped out and then knocked and went in.

Bani had seen the man's shadow as he stepped out a minute later she heard the knock and looked up at him thinking Kidnaper has manners.. that's strange'

'Your breakfast is ready comedown and have it and mind you if you do not come and have your food you're not going to get anything for the day..' he spoke with heavy accent. Bani stared at the man. His face was covered with a black cloth only his eyes were seen she tried to look into his eyes and shout he turned his face.

Jai left her leaving the door open. He stopped in midway and spoke over his shoulder, 'if you have any idea to escape from here take that form your mind.. there's no way you can get out of this place without our permission and do not try and tire us as well as you..'

He walked down the steps and found a note on the counter top. Tarun had left to make the call to Randhir Dixit. he tore them into pieces and on second thought he took his lighter and burned the pieces.

Jai you are one hell of a criminal you are burning the evidence.

He cleaned the ashes wiped them with a towel and turned as he heard the footsteps behind him an instinct told him to move quickly, jai moved quickly pulling the mask over his head and caught her hand as the stool dropped from her hand. She had tiptoed behind him picking up a stool to smash it on his back. She kicked and struggled from his grip. He pushed her on the chair next to them and pulled her hands back.

'Did I not warn you girl?' he sneered.

'Alright leave me.. I'll not try again..' she said finally feeling sorry she did not kick him hard.

He left her hand and glared at her. He pushed her breakfast on the table and gave her a look.

'I hate you, I hate you and I hate you..' she shouted pulling the plate with such force the contents almost jumped out of the plate. Jai turned his head away got her water and tea and sat back facing his back.

Bani chewed the bread in anger and she choked suddenly reaching for water. Jai turned his head and walked towards her cursing his luck and his friend leaving him alone with this brat. He looked down at her reaching for her she stopped him. 'don't touch me you criminal' if you think keeping me here will get you hefty sum, you're out of your mind.. my brother .. you don't know he will kill you guys and get me out of here..' she gave him empty threats. These people did not know her real brother only she knew he wouldn't care if she died or not'' her eyes had filled choking she pushed the plat and glared at him.

Jai did not stop her he looked away as if bored. She went and washed her hand and turned he stood behind her. Bani could feel the smell of the cologne he had used. It tingled her nostrils and it did not smell cheap. Who is this man? He doesn't look like some cheap gunda he had manners.

'Get going to your room.' He said.

'What if I don't?' she challenged him, and for some unknown reason Jai was amused at her back answer.

He had to clear his throat to give her good. 'I'll have to carry you back I don't want to touch you no more than you want me to touch you so, be a good girl and get going.'

Bani had not expected this. He was not behaving like a kidnapper. Alright he was giving her threats but she was not terrified of them? Is she out of her mind? Did she lose her mind after being kidnapped is that the reason she was not getting very scared of them?

'Get going.. Now.'

She moved upstairs he escorted her to the door she went in and he closed the door on her face before the door was shut on her she screamed, 'I hate you.'

Jai had no idea what to do he had so much work in the office and he was stuck with the hate you girl in here all Tarun's fault. He picked up the call and dialed him. the number was engaged. He went and raided the fridge. The fridge was stocked with food. He had no idea what he was making he prepared lunch. There was no Tarun. He picked up the call and tried at the third ring he picked up the call.

'Jai, sorry yar. I am on my way. We will talk once I reach there.'

Before Jai disconnected the call he asked, 'is she giving trouble?'

'She did but now in the room..'

'How long has she been in the room did you check on her?'

'No..'

'Come on man go and see what she is doing..' saying that he disconnected the line.

Jai strode upstairs pulling the mask over him. there was no response. He knocked and strained his ears there was no response he opened the door kicking him for the foolishness he had locked her and why the hell was he knocking on the door. He opened the door unlocking he walked in and stood horrified. The window was open and the bed sheet was tied to the window. He ran to the window and looked down. There was no one cursing him loudly he ran out the door and out of the house.

Bani quietly rolled out from under the bed. She had fooled him. She congratulated her and ran out the door.

Jai was afraid for her. the area was deserted and he did not want to think the consequences. Praying for her safety he looked around.

Bani ran as fast as her feet could take her. Her shoes heels broke. She stopped and quickly took out her shoes and threw them aside and ran. She had no idea where she was running. The place was deserted. In her haste something pricked her leg. She bent down to inspect the wound. A small sharp edged stone had pricked her leg. She soothed her heel with her hand and got up and got shock of her life. The man stood before her glaring down at her. She knew he was glaring though he had the hideous mask over him his frigid posture told her so. without much of a word he picked her up and put her on his shoulder.

'Leave me' you monster leave me'.' She struggled against him. Jai had hard time taking her inside. He took her upstairs. Threw her on the chair. Went towards the window pulled the bed sheet up and locked the door. He walked to her with the sheet. Bani watched him terrified what was he going to do kill her with the sheet? She was about to scream he shouted.

'One sound from you, you will be dead.'

She froze and then shook her head. 'oh.. I er '' she cleared her throat, 'thought you were going to kill me now.'

'I will if you do not sit quietly.'

'What is it you want?' She couldn't help but ask.

'Your brother will know.'

Bani frowned. 'you are wasting your time Mister. You won't get a penny for me.'

Jai scowled. The girl was bluffing. Though their plan was not to get money but she did not know.

'Shut up.' He walked towards her and tied her to the chair with the sheet. The sheet was too big and Jai was not getting the knack. Every time he tried to tie a knot the remaining cloth stuck in between. Bani watched him and said, 'Is this your first job?'

'Excuse me?' he looked up and then returned to tie the damn thing to a knot.

'Is this your first job kidnapper? You have no idea what you're doing? Do you? You can't even tie a knot? Amateur guy!' she grimaced.

'Just shut up! and sit straight.'

'Look kidnapper, I promise I won't give you trouble if you just let me be free.'

'Oh? so that you can run away again?'

'I won't I promise. I know you guys are not those types.'

'What type?' he asked absentmindedly, yet struggling with the knot.

'Those filthy types you see in the movies. You are decent..'

'How do you know?' his interest was piqued.

'Oh you do not need brains to know such things .. You have got manners and you come in to the room by knocking and I don't think the reall..'

'Thank you for the piece of advice next time I'll make sure we barge in..' he snapped. He left the cloth and straightened.

Oho! Bani thought kicking of her. What if they are real criminals and what does she know about these breeds. God help me please.. she closed her eyes and prayed.

Jai looked at the small face. She was rather cute with round chin and saucer eyes.

'What in God's name are you planning in the head of yours?' he shouted with the accent.

She snapped opened her eyes.

'I was praying.' She said looking at him.

Jai couldn't watch over her like this. Where the hell was Tarun? He needed to go and make calls. He needed some time alone without her. he walked to the window and made sure he had closed it gave her a look took the bed sheet from near her feet. He walked to the door and turned to her. 'Don't you dare try escaping from here. If you jump out of the window you might break your bone and with broken bones I do not think you can move so stay put till I come back.'

Bani looked at him and said, 'why are you taking the bed sheet?'

He did not answer. He gave her one sharp look wondering what she will see behind the mask.

'I hate you, I hate you and I hate you.'

The door shut on her face.

Tarun came later in the evening. Jai gave him a piercing look. 'where the hell have you been?'

'Jai, I had to drive away from here to give the man a call.'

'And how was his reaction?'

'I don't know Jai.. he was shocked for a moment I could say that but then he laughed it off. I first told him to check on his sister holding the phone. He did I am sure few moments later he said his sister did not go anywhere. As far as he know she had gone to visit her friend and if I am right '' he stopped for a moment and continued, 'he care less whether we kill her or not?'

'What?' Jai almost roared.

'hm.. he reached for a glass of water. ' I am afraid we have''

'Committed a grave sin and in deep trouble.. I shouldn't have gone with this plan how could I let myself into this Tarun how could I? And are you sure he was not bluffing about his sister.'

Tarun shook his head. 'I don't know I was shocked. Is she not his sister?'

'Tarun we are not thinking properly. Of course he was bluffing who wouldn't care about a sister he is a sharp man we do know about that. He is buying time so that he can involve police.'

'may be you are right.. but I don't know my instincts tells me he was not bluffing.'

'what else did he say?' asked Jai.

'he said not to worry about the police he will not try such foolish things as informing them.'

Jai did not know what to say? They sat in silence. he had been right this was a big mistake. Now what?

'Jai, he is bluffing I have appointed someone to watch over him. the tender should be given in two days. We will work our way in changing the quotes and distract him not to submit his..' Tarun had no idea what else to say. This was all wrong they behaved rather irrationally. The scoundrel was taking their business from under their noses through treachery the only think that came to Tarun's mind was to distract him from harming them once again. Jia had worked too hard to lose his business to some'. Tarun closed his eyes and sat back.

They were interrupted by the knock on the door.

Jai threw Tarun a look' just go see what she wants?'

Tarun walked upstairs unlocked the door and opened. She looked at him and frowned.

'You are not the other guy right?'

'Which guy?' asked Tarun in his normal voice then after a thought he repeated the question in a gruff voice.

'oh, I know you are not him..' she looked past Tarun.

'what's it you want?'

'I want to speak to him. call him..'

Tarun smiled behind his mask. The nerve of the girl.

'Hey'' Tarun shouted for Jai. Come here man she wants to talk to you.'

'Ask her what she wants.' Called back Jai.

Tarun looked at her, 'there you heard him.'

'I want to speak to him I insist.'

'She insists..' Tarun called out.

'If she wants to say anything let her tell you or else shut her up.' Jai shouted.

Tarun again looked at her.

Bani shook her head. Pushed Tarun aside and ran down stairs Tarun trailing behind her.

Jai looked at them in exasperation. What the hell were they doing here? kidnapped a girl whom they cannot control and'

His thoughts were interrupted as she stood before him glaring at him.

'what is it?' barked Jai.

'I need something.'

'what?'

She looked at Tarun and then back to Jai. She took a step forward, jai took a step back.

'What is it?' he barked again.

'You need not have to shout I can hear well, this is personal ..'

'Personal?' Tarun looked at them. It's been only matters of hours they have been alone and she wants to talk to him personal stuff'' what the hell.

'I don't want to hear anything personal.' Jai shouted back.

Bani looked at him exasperated. 'Look kidnapper this is urgent and I can't shout this to the world as it is, its embarrassing to tell you and .. she reached for his hand and pulled him towards her.

Jai's eyes widened in shock. What could be so embarrassing? And he did not want to hear it. But her hand was on his elbow. Before he could even react she leaned towards him tapping his masked face to reach his ears she whispered. ' I need sanitary napkins.'

'what?' he looked horrified.

'Don't shout, I need them. now..' she whispered again.

Jai thanked god the mask covered his face, the blood had rushed to his face reddening his cheeks and ears.

She shook him for attention. 'Do something.' She whispered.

'What? I don't know what you are talking about?' he whispered back making sure Tarun won't hear them, this embarrassing talk between them.

'you should know about them, who told you to kidnap a girl, girls carry lots of problems with them. you should have kidnapped a boy. You wouldn't have to go through all this embarrassing situations.'

Jai cursed Tarun loudly glaring at him.

'Do something now.' Said Bani leaving his hand.

'Isn't there any other alternative?' he almost choked on his words.

'Yes there is.' She looked squarely at him.

'what?'

'Kill me.. and now!!!!' her eyes widened giving him a piercing look.

Jai looked at Tarun pathetically.

'I am going upstairs. Decide on the options and be quick about it.' throwing Tarun a glance she strode upstairs shutting the door loudly.

What was all that about?' asked Tarun looking at jai.

Jai pulled his mask away from his face and sat on the couch.

'tell me''. There shouldn't be secrets between you two. I am entitled to know them too.'

'She needs sanitary napkins.'

'Excuse me?' Tarun almost shouted.

'Yes, go get them for her.' Jai almost covered his hands over his mouth to stop laughing at the look on Tarun's face.

'Of course not..' Tarun snapped.

'Yes, go and get for her now or else you will have to kill her.'

'She asked you buddy go get them for her.' Tarun shouted at him.

'Nope this was your plan. Go Tarun '' Jai said with a straight face.

'Jai I'll get you for this you just wait'' he ran to grab his collar. Bani shouted from the door.

'do something soon.' Jai and Tarun hastily pulled the mask over them at the sound of her.

Tarun cursed Jai loudly and walked out of the door.

He came back after half an hour carrying the packet.

'Here..' he threw them to Jai. 'Give it to your confidant.'

Grinning at him Jai took the packet and marched upstairs pulling the mask over his face. He stood before the door knocked and then opened. She was not in the room. He looked at the window it was closed. Then he heard the bathroom door click. He put the packet on the bed and moved quickly out the door. On his way he collided with her he straightened her and left her immediately.

Bani looked at the packet on the bed a smile formed on her lips. She didn't want them now. She only wanted to annoy these people. Her brother was not going to get her out of here and these two had spoiled her plan to get away from her brother. They seemed harmless. She believed in her heart of heart. They wouldn't kill her she was sure. She would find out somehow what it was they wanted from her brother.

You have already started another one. Never thought of Jai as a kidnapper. But yes as long as the person in captive is Bani no problems. Bani's brother is he really her own brother.

So now what will the two of them team up against that good for nothing brother of hers. And surely Taruns hair brained idea has Jai in a soup just wondering how is he going to get out of it. And Bani surely has a soft spot for Jai. But the napkin thing was truly hilarious. When she is kidnapped she is trying ways to crack up her kidnappers. So waiting to see more action on those lines.
