Chapter 6

After he left, Bani sat on the sofa motionless, then she fished out her mobile, tried the private no. from which Pia had called up but incoming calls were barred…..Bani felt frustrated.. then she sat up, how did Jai Walia trace her to this house, he must have been hunting Pia, must have employed a professional agency to do it and if he has traced her to this house, he must be knowing that Pia has a twin, this house belongs to the Dixits, even if Bani had to remove her parents' nameplate and had to put Prayag Patil's at the gate but the neighbours are aware about it, they have grown up in this area…..

Bani got up walked around, Patil uncle is visiting a close relative who is not keeping well for sometime….he will not be back before two days and Bani did not want to disturb him immediately….she walked around the little space, she took out her identification, then realized it is not hers but Pia's which is needed…she had only copies of her's , she put them, the whole night she could not sleep, she tried to pack her bags but could not do it either….

Bani watched the long fingers of Jai Walia scrawling his signature on the registry paper, long and bold, seems he is used to signing his name often, the paper was put in front of her…Bani picked up the pen, her hand shook, she took a deep breath and signed 'Pia Dixit' a bit slowly, making real effort of not turning the alphabet 'P' into 'B'…..Jai Walia was showing extreme patience for a change even, he had waited patiently while Bani closed her place, made some last minute packing as she wasn't able to do before…..it is marriage of convenience, she reminded herself once again when she stood up to shake hands with the Registrar, Jai pushed Riya's pram, Bani followed him out, he in his usual dark suit and she in a plain off white sari with golden broader, without any jewelry still managed to catch glances from the passersby….

Silently Bani got into Jai's car, she sat looking out of the window, the car started, after sometime Bani's office past, she felt nostalgic, nobody will be able to see her through these dark windows but for past three years, this office was Bani's 2^nd home, she had enjoyed her work, rose through the ranks and was popular. Today in the morning when she went to give her resignation, Rahul was stunned…..what is the matter with you Bani…..

Rahul I need to spare somemore time with Riya, things are not going as I perceived to be….

Is it Riya or you are joining elsewhere….

Bani looked accusingly at him, Rahul you know me and this much honesty I have to tell you that even….

I know I know Bani but somehow I still do not understand why you need leave your job, many mothers work nowadays….

They do Rahul and I am a forced mother without any prior notice, never mind, I will not crib, I need sometime off and I will not keep you hanging indefinitely….

Bani went out, with the help of Vikas she packed her belongings quickly, Vikas and her other team members helped her….I know Bani I should be happy as you are making way for me but Bani I really liked working under you, Vikas stated with sincerity… Bani ruffled his hair and blinked her tears….

You are most welcome to join back whenever you wish, was Rahul's parting words…Bani gave a satisfied smile, she has earned it she knew and people also think so is that what matters…..

The car drove them to one of the posh areas of the city, where big names resided, the gates opened and the car drove in to stop at the portico….

Bani could not recollect ever walking into a such a cold and dead house…it felt like a mortuary, a vast sitting area with not a soul at sight, there was a pin drop silence everywhere….Bani hugged Riya to herself…..just then a butler came wearing uniform, greeting them, Tony, meet my wife Pia, and now take her to the room I asked you to get ready…..

O.K. Sir….anything else Sir….

I am going back to office and will be back at the usual time…..

Right Sir…Tony's answers were mechanical…..

Bani heard a pair of footsteps retreating, then Tony picking up their luggage and saying this way madam…..

This could not be Jai Walia's room, the furnishing and the furniture was period with pink and white combination, Tony put down the luggage and showed Bani the intercom in case she needs him….

Bani gave a sigh of relief….She put down Riya on the bed and lied down on the bed next to her, the relief and anxiety made her feel sleepy, her eyes closed, atleast Jai Walia was considerate enough that they need not to share their rooms…..

The sound of voices woke Bani up….she saw an old woman leaning over Riya and making baby noises with her….

Bani sat up with a start and apologized a bit self consciously….

Tu kaun hai beta, the old lady asked….

Bani hesitated, the woman definitely was not an outsider otherwise she would not have access to a bedroom on the first floor……

Ji mai mai Ba…Pia, mai Pia hu……

The woman took a couple of minutes to register the name…..

Ranveer ka dost….she asked….

Ji….Bani replied softly, she hated to introduce herself with a lie ….

Her wrinkled face broke into a smile, wahi mai soch rahi thi yeh beti hamara Veer jaise kiyu lag rahi hai…..

Bani smiled….the woman must be Veer's grandmother, that means Jai Walia's mother, her saas, she promptly got down from the bed and touched her feet….

The woman was taken aback bit…jiti rahe puttar jiti rahe….bahut sanskari ladki hai tu…aajkaal kaun kiska pair chhuta….

Tony brought her dinner up, Bani requested for hot water so that she could mak Riya's milk, Bani noticed that even after Ranveer's grandmother left the room no other family members visited her, no one even called her for dinner and when Tony brought her dinner up, Bani told him, mujhe bola lete mai jake sab ke saath dinner karti….

Tony was a well trained man, he softly said Maam idhar sabka apna apna time hai….aap aaj idhar kar lijiye …..

It seems like it the word is not around that she is here, Jai said it is a marriage for convenience so why should he bother to introduce her around, he will do it as per his convenience, for her it was also a marriage for convenience to play the waiting game till Pia comes back and claims her baby….

Riya was having an unusual uneasy night, she was whimpering, something was not o.k. maybe she did not like the bed or the room, Bani was not sure, she has been a good baby upto now and it seems today for the first time she will give her or is she tensed like her …..

Bani at last found the kitchen, the whole house was quiet like before, still well lit, Bani took Riya down in search of the kitchen, maybe she might get light soup for her, something to distract her….Bani at last found it, though nobody was there, it was still partially lit, nobody believed in switching off lights in this house it seems, what a wastage of money…..

Bani found a banana, she smashed it, she did not know babies were allowed banana or not but maybe just a spoonful…as she put the spoon in front of Riya…

Idhar keya ho rahe hai….asked a voice startling Bani…..

So the lion has decided to return to his den, observed Bani, he was still in his usual suit…what is the time now, past midnight…..

Riya is not feeling too well, so something to distract her…..

You are feeding her to distract her? ….

Well what else can I do, I tried all the usual methods….

Have you thought about calling the doctor for a change……He asked a bit sarcastically….

You don't call the doctor if someone has a bit of bad night to start with, after all for her it is a new place….

So you go bananas instead….

Bani noticed Riya had suddenly stopped crying instead watching them with great interest…. well it was a distraction for Riya to stop crying it seems, for the first time since she met him she found him looking amazed at Riya's actions…..

I think a different voice distracted her….Bani stated…..

Hmmm….he watched Riya for sometime then went towards the kitchen table, uncovered to take a plate, put the whole thing in the micro and heated it for a minute….sitting on that table itself he started eating, Bani frowned, very strange, CEO of a multi billion rupee company having just plain dal roti and a sabzee that too by self heating…..sitting alone in the kitchen most of the night it seems…..she pretended to be busy with Riya till he finished eating….

Lovely update. Oh my gosh this story is going so good. I love Jai, not the type to beat around the bush.

y does she want to marry under the name pia... she should have come clean... she is falling into pia's trap more and more...
