Ranjana,

Normally I'm not interested in action stories, but your writing makes me glued to this story……this concept is different n interesting….Liked the characterization of JB in this story…..I like it….you are a fabulous writer….I love your writing style! Coming to the update…Interesting part!!Very well written!.... 👏 Jai, despite being a gunda, has feelings n is good at heart. He was not ready to trade bani with pusky..….he has a tender side also….the way she was healing Iqbal was beautifully penned…..you have described JB's emotions beautifully….So he finally recognized her…can't wait for the next part…

Thank you all so much for all of your sweet and lovely comments that encourage me every time to write another chapter.

I thought about answering some questions because I seem to confuse you all a bit.
Abhi: Pushkar is still with Salim. He is alive until Salim gets Bani and Dhananjai.
Nadia: This is my story, but not really original I guess. I used to watch shows like 'Charmed' and 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' where the characters have such powers and while writing this story I only thought about making Bani look into the future but then I remembered 'Leo' the whitelighter from 'Charmed' and he could heal people and thought he was soooooo cute so that's why Bani can heal.
Jai's character is loosely based on a character from a childrensbook I read years ago. I don't even remember the book or the name of the character but this guy was a wolf-boy(half human and half wolff) and his pack was in danger so he had to protect them and he got help from a human girl. I think the roles a kind of switched here.

Part 8

Bani woke up in the huge bedroom. Lying in the bed she looked around and saw the clock near the door. It was just 6.30 in the morning but she had the habit of waking up early. She saw the man still sleeping in the chair. He wasn't relaxed. Even while he was sleeping Bani could see lines on his forehead that told of the amount of stress he was under, but Bani corrected herself quickly. She didn't want to think about his problems. He kidnapped her, threatened her and hit her. Having no sympathy for that man was definitely not a crime. Bani saw the bedlamp on the nightstand and thought for a while. He was sleeping and wouldn't see what was coming. She could hit him on his head and run for her life. Bani picked up the lamp and slowly and carefully removed the covers from herself, too scared she would make a noise he could hear. She felt her muscles ache when she stepped out of the bed. Bani felt the cold tiles touch the skin of her feet. She shivered and looked at her feet when she saw her bare legs. 'There goes my plan. She thought and placed the lamp on the nightstand again. Where would she go like this? His men would be waiting outside and even if she would manage to run from here, where would she go? She didn't even know where she was and how would she ask for directions?

She had to worry about her not-so-covered state. Just because this man didn't touch her like that didn't mean his men would be like that too. And outside this place might be even worse for her. On top of that she felt faint and her stomach rumbled like people were playing dhol, nagara and the drum in there together. She hadn't eaten a thing since last morning. Bani had skipped lunch because of a client and he had asked everything in his interrogation except whether she was hungry or thirsty.

Bani looked at the man in the chair and at the three doors in the room. One of them must be a bathroom. Getting out of here was out of the question, she might as well get up, attend to nature's call, freshen up quickly and gulp down lots of water before he would wake up or before he would tie her up again and starve her. Bani wanted to stand up but remembered something. She put her feet on the bed and removed her anklets from her feet. She didn't want to make a noise.

Placing the anklets on the soft mattress Bani tiptoed, because of the cold tiles, to the first door she saw and opened it. The room was dark. Bani touched the wall next to the door , searching for a switch and found it. She turned the lights on. A long row of black suits hung on one side. Different pairs of shoes were placed under the suits, on the floor. On the far end of the room was a row with suits of different colours and Indian clothes. 'Wrong room. Bani thought and looked for the switch again when she saw the other side of the room. Rows of guns and other weapons were displayed there. Bani didn't notice it herself but her hand started shaking and she remembered herself that she was in big trouble. She switched off the lights and hurriedly shut the door. She turned around and looked at the man in the chair again. He didn't move. His breathing was as even as it was before. Saying a quick prayer Bani opened the next door and switched on the lights. It was the bathroom, thank goodness for that. Bani saw the sink and stepped in the bathroom. She walked over to it and cursed the person that invented these stupid cold tiles. She was freezing.

Bani opened the tap and adjusted it to a bearable temperature. She let the water stream over the tip of her fingers for a while before she washed her face. She looked at the shower next to the sink and was musing whether to take a shower or not while she was here and had the opportunity but after a while decided against it. She wanted to get out of here before he would wake up and think she was trying to escape. That slap was still imprinted on her mind. Bani rinsed her mouth and splashed some more water on her face before she turned off the hot water. Lowering her head to the tap she started slurping the cold water. She didn't knew she was this thirsty till the water reached her lips. After a minute or too she closed the tap, satisfied with it for now. Her stomach rumbled. She relieved herself and Bani stepped out of the bathroom after whipping her face with the sleeve of her shirt. Well, someone else's shirt. She walked to the bed again and sat on it, covering her legs again. Propping the pillow against her back she thought about what would happen next and suddenly thought about her parents. She missed them a lot. Bani took the pillow next to her and held it tightly to her chest resting her head on the bed.

****

Nirali burst it the room because of which Dhananjai woke up.
'Boss, Robby ka pata chal gaya. Salim ka aadmi.

Dhananjai looked at Niru. Hai ya tha?'
Niru grinned slightly and shrugged her shoulders. 'Tha. I met him this morning. Someone saw him with Salim and called me. I just paid him a visit.'

'This morning?' Dhananjai asked. 'How late is it?'

'Close to ten.' Niru answered.

'What?!' Dhananjai exclaimed and sat straight in his chair. ' How could I have overslept? Mujeh Pushkar ko dhoonde jaana hai!'

'Boss, relax! Pushkar will be fine. He is a strong guy. And she said that Pushar will be safe until they don't have her. I mean.......' Nirali said hesitatingly.

'Boss you do believe her na?'

Dhananjai looked at Nirali and thought for a while. He rubbed his face and stood up from the rocking chair. Get all our men assembled in the livingroom. I need to talk to them.'

Dhananjai walked to his closet and got some clothes for himself. When stepped into the room again, he saw that Nirali already had left. He went to the bathroom to have a shower. A night sleeping in the rocking chair didn't do wonders for him.

Stepping into the shower he remembered her again. The way she was last night. She fell on the floor and Nirali screamed seeing her state. She was gasping for breath and neither Nirali nor Jai knew what to do. They just kept staring at her, withering in pain, till Nirali rushed to her side, for once in her life ignoring Iqbal. She fainted when Nirali held her hand. Dhananajai lifted her in his arm, putting his gun aside, and carried her to the bathroom. He put her in the bathtub and turned to Niru.
Help her. Give her some water. Bring her to consciousness and help her out of these clothes.' He stepped out, came back with a shirt and gave it to Niru.
He helped Iqbal to the guestroom and took care of him there. When he returned he noticed that Niru was still in the bathroom. He knocked on the door and heard Niru's voice quiver when she said 'Come in.

She was still in the bathtub. Niru was sitting on the floor and was putting the shirt on her. Boss, look at her legs, her shoulders. It's getting smaller and smaller but it looked like she was shot.'

Niru was right. It seemed like she had wounds that were almost healed. There was no blood flowing at all.

'Hosh me aayi yeh?'

'Yes, twice. For a while.' Niru answered. 'Lekin phir behosh ho gayi.'

Dhanajai lifted her in his arms again and brought her out of the bathroom and put her on his bed. Niru put the pillows in the right position and covered her with the blankets.

Boss, mai Iqbal ko dekh sakti hoon?' Niru asked.
if the situation was any different then Dhananjai would love to tease Niru now, but the gravity of the moment was affecting her so strongly and her anxiety was written across her face.

' Haan, jao. The second room on your left. Wahaan par koi nahin aayega. See if he wakes up, but I doubt it. If he wakes up then give him something to eat, I changed his clothes already.'

Nirali left and he was left with a strange, unconscious woman who had saved his and his brother's life.

Dhananjai settled himself in the rockingchair when he hear her moan. He walked over to her when he saw her clutch the covers of the bed in a tight grip. Her face indicated that she was in a lot of pain. She made herself as small as possible in a foetal position and then turned several times to the left or the right maybe in an attempt to stop the pain. Dhananjai rushed to the bathroom and came back with a wet towel to wipe her face and cool her a bit. Even through all this her eyes were still closed. He wiped her face but she didn't stop the soft sobs. She left the bedcovers and clutched her hair in her fists. Dhananjai stopped her hands, pried her hair out of her fingers and held her hands in his. She clenched his hands tightly and didn't let go. Her soft sobs turned into cries of pain. Thrashing around on the bed, she almost fell off and Dhananjai helped her just in time. He left her hands and put her on the bed again, covering her with the bedcovers. Not knowing what to do he lay down next to her, on the covers, and turned her back towards him. He held her against his chest with her fists in his hands. She couldn't move anymore and after a while her cries stopped and she fell asleep. Dhananjai wiped her face again and moved from there to sleep in the chair.

Dhananjai stepped out of the bathroom and for the first time that morning he noticed the one he had been thinking about. She was sleeping, sitting up in the bed. Her cheeks were tearstained. She had been crying again. He walked towards her. He reached out and wanted to move the stains from her cheeks when he stopped himself. Instead he woke her up by shaking her lightly.

She opened her eyes and when she saw him clutched the covers of the bed tightly to her chest.

'Dont worry..' he said soflty. Mai kuch nahin karunga.'

She nodded her head to show she understood him and lowered her head.

' Bhook lagi hai?'
he didn't get a reaction and then remembered that she couldn't hear him. He tapped on her shoulder.

'Bhook lagi hai?'
She nodded. He took his mobile out of his pocket and called his butler to order breakfast.

' What is you name?' He asked her ' I forgot it.' He said sheepishly.

She mouthed something. When she noticed that he didn't understand her she looked at the floor next to the bed and saw the writing pad and the pen still there. She was about to throw the blankets of her when she remembered her state. She pointed to the pad and to her surprise he picked it up for her. She wrote again 'Bani.

He stared at her. Thank you for saving Iqbal Bani. Im sorry for....for what I did.

Bani was dumbstruck. Did he just apologize and thank her? She smiled at him. at least tried to.

'Kya mai ghar jaa sakti hoon?' She wrote on the pad.

'I'm sorry. You cant. Tumhaari jaan khatre me hai. Salim is looking for you.'

' I don't care.' Bani wrote. ' your man is in danger. Let them get to me. Aapko aapka aadmi mil jaayega.'

Dhananjai looked at her face. The determination on it. Wasn't she scared? He waited till she looked up and then said. 'I'm sorry, I cant do that. Jab tak tum jahan ho mai tumhe khatre me nahin daal sakta. I know what you must be thinking about me but trust me, mai itna bhi bura nahin hoon.'

Bani looked at the floor, embarrassed and worried at the same time.

'Bani I need your help. You can see things. Pushkar ko dhoondhe ne ke liye mere paas 3 din hai. He wont get killed untill they have you but that doesnt mean they are not torturing him. Can you see what they are doing? Where they are?'
Bani looked around in the room again. She was trying to find her speech computer. Dhananjai noticed her wandering gaze and guessed what she was looking for. Her saw the device on the floor, still covered in blood. He picked it up and cleaned it in the bathroom. He brought it too her. She turned it on and started typing.

'I can try atleast.'

He looked at her and noticed that her fingers were moving again.

'How is that man now?'

'He is fine.' Dhananjai answered.

'can I see him?' She asked.

'Pehle naachta kar lo.'
He suddenly turned around and walked to the door. He came back with a tray piled with toast, eggs and fruits along with tea, coffee and juice. He handed it to her.

She looked at the tray and then pointed towards him and mouthed something. A familiar frown on his forehead appeared and Bani turned her speechcomputer on again.

'Wont you eat?'
A smile appeared on his face. he picked up a piece of toast and handed it to her. Then he picked up another piece and took a bite of it. They ate in silence.

A girl entered the room. Boss, Kashif aaya hai.'

'Kya?'

The girl smiled at him. 'Yes boss. Aap kahe to uska band baja doon?'
'Niru! Be careful. He is Salim's brother. USka band mil kar bajaayege. As for now let me go and meet him. You take care of her. Give her something to wear and help her if she needs to take a shower or something.'
'' Yes boss.'
She answered.

Bani watched the man go. The girl smiled at her. Bani held the tray in front of her, offering her something to eat. The girl plopped down on the bed and started munching on an apple and later on the French toast on another plate. Later she introduced herself and told Bani to take a shower while she looked for a towel and some clothes. Bani opened the buttons of the shrt in front of the mirror in the bathroom. She lowered the shirt a bit scared. She noticed a small wound in a perfect circle on her shoulders, then a wound on her stomach and above her knees. She touched her stomach and noticed that the scar she had after she cured the other man a few days ago was gone completely. That incident had made her think but now she couldn't stop wondering. Was she really taking over other peoples pain when she healed? Was she really taking over their injuries.

Bani saw a heap of yellow fabric on the floor, next to the sink. Bending down she noticed that it were her own clothes. She held it up and saw bloodstains at exact the same places where she had injuries on her body. Maybe it was true.

Bani dropped the fabric on the floor again and stepped in the shower cubicle. She turned on the water and let her muscles relax in the hot water and washed her hair. Niru opened her door halfway, so she wouldn't really invade Bani's privacy, to throw in a towel which landed on the sink. Bani wiped herself with the towel and put it around her after which she peeked out of the room. Niru handed her a shirt and a pair of jeans, both too big for her, to wear. 'Sorry, I don't have any clothes here. These are the boss' .

Bani wore them and came out. She turned her speech computer on and typed 'Thank you.' For Niru to which the latter smiled broadly.

'Can I meet your friend? The man that was shot yesterday?'

Niru was surprised and thought whether Dhananjai would allow this but after all, she saved Iqbal's life. She had the right to meet him. Niru led her to the other room where Iqbal was sleeping. Bani looked at him, checked his pulse using Niru's watch and noticed that he was burning with fever. It could be because of the shock, or maybe because of an infection as Bani wasn't sure whether she could cure infections too. Bani looked for Niru and signed something because she forgot her speechcomputer in the bedroom. Niru ran out and returned with it.

'Do you have some painkillers?' Bani typed.

'No.' Niru answered.
'No where in this house?' Bani asked again.
'Maybe the boss has some, but he is busy right now. Cant disturb him.'

'Can you then get me hot water, tea leaves and cloves? And something to crush cloves with? And neemleaves. I need that too.'

' Cloves? I can ask the butler for that but neem? I doubt whether that is here.'
'Is there a temple in the vicinity? A Durga Temple? '
Bani asked.

'Yes, the alley behind the house. Niru said.
Ask there. A lot of times they use it. I need to reduce his fever.'

Niru ran down the stairs and told the butler to make the necessary arrangements for the tea. She walked to one of the men and told him to go and ask for the leaves. After a while she brought the necessary things to her. Bani started her work as quickly as she could.

In the meantime Dhananjai was busy downstairs. Opening the door to the commonroom he saw Kashif sitting and suppressing the urge to shoot his stupid grin of his face Dhananjai walked over to him and as cool as ever said.' Wah, aaj kuwa pyaase ke paas kahan se aaya hai.'

'Don't bother Dhananjai. You cant irritate me now. You can try ofcourse, but for once we are winning,' Kashif said smiling.

Dhananjai raised his eyebrow. 'The game isn't even at the second level and you are already talking about winning?'

Kashif smiled. ' Choro yeh sab. I'm here to make a deal. You hand us that girl aur apne aadmi ko chura lo. Uske baad Mumbai chor kar chale jao and live happily ever after. Hum tumhe phir kabhi tang nahin karenge aur tum bhi humko tang mat karna.'

Dhananjai laughed bitterly, seated himself on the sofa across Kashif and flung his right leg over his left while glaring at the man. I should hand you the girl and leave Mumbai? Give me one good reason.

Well you want your boy back. That is one. And ill give you another reason. For free. Kashif tried to be funny. If you don't do that, then Bhai will make your life hell. Hell shoot you in you head with pleasure, in your house, and then take that girl and let her shoot your brother.

Dhananjai glared at Kashif, sat down in a normal position and leanded forward, looking directly into Kashifs eyes.' Bring it on!! Let your brother come here with his best men and take the girl away!! She is in this house. It's a challenge. I dare you all to do it! I want him to come here! You all think you're too smart sending an informer here! You know what happened to your precious Robby?!'

Dhananjai saw Kashif's face turn ash white. 'You know about...?

'Kind of.' Dhananjai said while nodding his head. And as for leaving Mumbai. That will never happen. I will never leave, giving you a clear road to do what ever pleases you and you pathetic brother.

Dhananjai!!' Kashif pulled out his gun and turned to point it to Dhananjai when he saw a gun already pointed at him. Kashif's men came in from one side and Dhnanajai's men came in the room from the other side.
Guns were pointed at everyone in the room but only Kashif was directly at gun point with Dhananjai's gun on his temple.

' I suggest you leave Kashif. Dhananjai whispered vindictively in his ear.

This isnt over yet!' Kashif screamed in an attempt to save face. Dhananjai pushed him away and told his men to escort his 'guests' out. 'Ill be waiting for your brother Kashif! Dhananjai said as parting words.

When his men came back he informed them to tighten the security around the mansion. He walked upstairs. He needed Banis help.

Getting highly suspenseful.. so Jai looked after Bani when she was in her troubled sleep and Bani has no idea.

I wonder if Bani will be able to see whether Salim comes to get her or she ends up going to him. And Pushkar...I hope he lives. Great update. And I am complaining of the lenght...kind of tough to write this much as is I am sure. Thanks Renu.

Phew, finally JB are beginning to trust each other. Still a long way to go but its a start 😉 So Bani doesnt care that her life is in danger, is she just being brave or cynical?
Iqbal is still not well, hopefully Bani will manage to break his fever. Jai is gonna need all the help possible to beat Salim. I cant believe he openly challenged Salim's men. What was the need to point out Bani's location? Well, with Bani's clairvoyance I guess you really cant go wrong. But first Pushky, am getting worried about him.
Gripping tale!
