A month later.

Come in!
Maya looked at the clock in her office. She was sure that she did not have an appointment this late. Most of the staff had left including the secretary. It was almost six oclock and she had promised Jai that she would make dinner for the both of them at her place and she didn't want to be late. Someone hesitantly entered the her office.

Maya wanted to swear loudly when she saw the person.
Mrs. Dixit. Come in, please. she said instead.
Mrs. Dixit was standing near the door. She looked around and then at Maya.

I'm sorry. I hope I am not bothering you.'

'Not at all. Have a seat. Can I offer you something?' Maya waited till Mrs. Dixit sat on the sofa. She politely refused Maya's offer.

Maya took a seat on the opposite side, trying to create a distance between them. It was silent for a while when Maya decided to speak.

'Can I help you with something?'

Mrs. Dixit averted her eyes and shook her head. The unnerving silence crept in again. suddenly Mrs Dixit stood up and walked to the door. She opened it and somehow it changed her mind. Mrs. Dixit turned around.
I have always known about you and your mother. Tum apni ma ki tarah dikhti hoon.' She said with a smile. 'Tumko dekhte hi pehchaan gayi thi. My daughters even know that their father was married before and has a daughter. Mujhe pata hai ki woh dono tumse milna chaahenge.Unke aankhen, unka chehra, They look a lot like you, you know and they....
Maya stopped her. Yeh kabhi mat kehna ki aapki betiyan mujh jaise hai.'

'Don't be so harsh on your father. Unhone bas wahi kiya jo unko us waqt sahi laga.'

Maya smiled and walked to her desk. Us waqt unko yeh sahi laga ki woh chale jaaye, maanti hoon. Us waqt unko yeh laga ki woh us aurat ke saath khush nahin reh paayenge aur woh ghar chor kar, apni beti ko chor kar chale gaye,, maanti hoon. Lekin us waqt aur ab me 21 saal beet gaye hai. Agar in 21 saalon me unhe apne apni baat sahi lagti to woh aaj mere saamne hote, mujh se baat karte. Aap ko nahin bhejte.

No, yeh sahi nahin hai. Mrs. Dixit protested. Mai apni marzi se aayi hoon. Tumse baat karne. Tum bhi Pia aur Rano ki tarah ho.'

Maya shook her head. 'Nahin Mai Pia aur Rano ki tarah nahin hoon.
Kyun nahin? Tum bhi Nishikant ki beti ho.'
Maya took a deep breath. That is the difference. Mai bhi unki beti hoon. Mai aapki betiyon ki tarah nahin hoon aur Bhagwaan se duwa karti hoon ki woh meri tarah kabhi na bane. They deserve much better then I got. They deserve everything that I did not get.

Bani please, your father isn't bad. Tum unse ek baar mil to lo, baat karo unse. He is very disturbed. Mrs. Dixit pleaded.

its Maya maam. And why should I talk to Mr.Dixit? He has abandoned me when I was three and refused to accept me a month ago. Ab mai unse baat kyun karu? Woh mere kuch nahin lagte hai aur mai kisi anjaan aadmi se koi rishta nahin banaati.'

The door suddenly opened. 'Toh phir tum us Walia ke saath kya kar rahi ho?'
Maya laughed bitterly when she saw Mr. Nishikant Dixit stand in the dooropening.
'To aap bhi hai yahan. Aayiye, ander aayiye. Have a seat.
'Mai kuch pooch raha hoon Bani!' Mr. Dixit screamed.

'Chillaaye mat. Maya answered in a cool voice. And my name is Maya, not Bani. Kyun pooch rahe hai aap? Mai jo bhi karu is se aap ka koi matlab nahin hai'

'Matlab hai Bani. I am still your father and everyone is talking about the both of you. Tum dono me kaise rishta yeh sab publicly discuss ho raha hai.'

'To? Meri zindagi, meri marzi.' Maya strolled in front of her desk for a while and then said. 'Ab samjhi. Dont worry Mr. Dixit, kisi ko pata nahin chalega ki mai aapki beti hoon aur. Aap ki so called izzat par koi aanch nahin aayigi.

Tujhe pata hai tum kya keh rahi ho Bani?!!' mr. Dixit shouted.

'acchi tarah se.'

'Tumko pata hai log kya kehte hai Bani. You are not married with him and everyone knows he visits you. Tum uski girlfriend kam ho aur mistress zyaada.'
Something inside Maya erupted. The room was spinning around her and she felt this intense and consuming rage inside her. 'No Mr. Dixit!!! You can not call me that!!!' Bani screamed on top of her voice. 'Poori duniya mujhe yeh bula sakti hai lekin aap bilkul bhi nahin because all this is your and my mother's fault!!!! Aap dono ne mujhe tora hai, ander se. har pal! Aap dono ki kamzori se yeh meri zindagi ban gayi hai!! Now you don't get to question the way I choose to live my life!! They way I choose to make myself complete again!!'
Mr. Dixit turned quiet.

'Bani you can not blame your father for everything.' Mrs. Dixit's mousy voice ended the ice cold silence that was prevalent in the room.

'I am not blaming him for everything that went wrong in my life Mrs. Dixit.' Maya answered in her businesslike voice. 'I am just saying what is true. I know what happened. Mother had an affair. He was naturally hurt. He stayed for a while but eventually left. Mother said that she will only give him a divorce is he will stop meeting me and that man over there agreed. Didn't you Mr. Dixit?' He lowered his head.
'Did I miss anything?' Maya asked.
He didn't answer Mayas question.
'I guess I didn't miss anything. Maya concluded bitterly. He left. Apni us mahaan vachan ko nibhaane ke liye woh chale gaye. Mujhe yaad to kiya hoga, lekin uske ilaava kuch kiya nahin. Aap dono kyun aaye hai yahaan?' she asked, now on the verge of tears.

'to warn you because this isn't right Bani. Yeh sab sahi nahin hai.' Mr. Dixit answered in a whisper.

Maya looked at him. 'You know what is not right. That he loves me so much. Yeh sahi nahin hai. Aur yeh bhi sahi nahin hai ki mai usse pyaar karne se darti hoon kyunki har woh insaan, jo meri zindagi me aaya hai, usne mujhe bahot dard diya hai. I am afraid I will do the same to him.'

'It's just an advise. I want to protect you beta. Tum in amir mardon ko nahin jaanti. He will hurt you and leave you in the end.' Mr. Dixit spoke in a concerned voice.

Maya couldn't control her tears at this point. Now you have come to protect me? Where were you when I needed protection and advice? Aap kahan the jab me ghatiya bars me kaam karti thi Ma ke ilaaj ke liye? Aap kahan the jab wahaan ka har ek mard mujhe choota tha and I let them do that. Pata hai kyun? Because I knew that if I just stand there and let them they will let me go and not cause any harm further. If I would fight them then they would follow me home jaahan mujhe bachaane ke liye koi nahin tha. They would probably rape me in front of my mother and leave me there. Woh log tab mujhe marne bhi nahin dete. I needed your protection a few years back not now.' Maya looked at the woman standing next to her husband. That is why you shouldn't compare me to your daughters Mrs. Dixit. Your eldest daughter is lucky to find a parter, jis se woh keh sake ki woh us se pyaar karti hai and not run from the man I started to love six years ago and leave the one descent job I had in years. I ran as fast as I could because I didnt knew for sure how to love someone. Mai darti thi ki mai pyaar ke naam par usko kahin dard na dedu kyunki sab ne mere saath wahi kiya. That person was Jai Walia. Its because of the man you want to protect me from that I didn't jump of a roof, the last time I met you. Meri har ajeeb aur najayaz shart usne poori ki. I have insulted his love and even though I do, I will never be able to say that I love him. But he is still there for me. Unlike you Mr. Dixit. If I wanted to blame, I would blame you and my mother for getting scared of love and running out of this office and out of that man's life six years ago.

Maya walked to the door and opened it.
Aap ke liye meri zindagi me ab jagah nahin hai. Pia ki shaadi ke baad aap mujhe kabhi nahin dekhenge Mr. Dixit.

Mr. And Mrs. Dixit walked to the door. Mr. Dixit stopped in front on his estranged daughter.

Bani tum mujhe…..'

'Mera naam Maya hai Sir, sirf Maya kyunki yeh us pandit ki den hai jisne mere naamkaran kiya tha. aapki ya meri Ma ki nahin.'

After that answer there was nothing left to say. Mr and Mrs. Dixit walked out of the door and out of the office without noticing the man who was a unexpected witness of the conversation.

'Bani. so gayi kya?' Jai stayed over for the night after dinner. He wasn't feeling sleepy yet. Jai had pulled her near him. Her head was lying on his chest and he was playing with her hair. She slapped his hand away. 'Let me sleep, please.'

Maya was surprised she was able to compose herself so quickly after her visitors left. Jai came in a few minutes later and she was sure her face didn't reveal anything. She was quiet on the way to her home, but she was never a talkative person so that didn't say much.

Maya grumbled when she felt Jai blowing in her hair and on her face. She looked up to meet his eyes. 'Aap ko ghar nahin jaana hai?' Jai noticed that she was tired. She had a hectic day at work and the last part of her day wasn't the best and wore her out.

Jai shook his head. 'Aaj ghar par koi nahin hai. Shaadi me gaye hai, kal aayenge. What he didn't bother to was that he didn't want her to be alone after what he saw in her office.

So you are going to bother me?'

Jai nodded with a grin.

'Bani...' Maya looked up again when she heard her name. 'I love you.'

Maya rested her head on his chest again and closed her eyes. 'I know.'

I was rendered speechless after reading it!!!!

I loved it, I don't know if bani's outburst on her father was right or wrong, but from my point of view it was necessary if not right because the hurt, pain and frustration which was bottled up inside her for years needed to come out or else she would have died, her soul would have been poisoned!!!!

Very well written!!! I loved jai (who doesn't), I am glad he followed his heart to be with bani, no matter what!!!
