Dear Ahaana and Tanu
The sound of ricocheting bullets that rocked your college have shattered yours. We at IF want to say how sorry we are for the loss of your parents in your most crucial years of needing love and words of encouragement.
Who could have done this terrible thing? Why is the world so hateful? Why were your parents not able to make it to safety when they rescued so many? Sadly, no answers will bring you comfort. And, no answers will bring you understanding.
Your friends will call your parents heroes. The media will want your attention. Everybody will tell you how bravely your parents sacrificed their lives. But you will always wonder whether you were the cause for your parents being in harm's way - for you had lied to them that you were going to college. No, do not even for a moment think that you drove them to harm's way. This is God's maya - they were there because their destiny beckoned them. When the right time comes each one of us have to go - whether through bullets or otherwise. You will find your own way to say goodbye in your own time.
Birthdays and Deepavali will never be the same to you. Your outlook on life will change and so will you. Suddenly, the small stuff is not bad anymore. From this pain and longing for just one more hug - you have to rebuild your lives. We can only pray that you find that inner strength that is waiting to thrust itself. We can only pray that you listen to that inner voice which will always guide you in the right direction. We can only pray that you seek that inner peace which can give you solace. Please know that God's love enfolds you.
