"Nice to meet you?"
With shaking hands and sweat dripping off her forehead Gauri inserted the house key into the keyhole and turned it. She knew inside what waited for her was her grandmother sitting in the dark of the living room, with one hand resting on her walking stick as she waited for her granddaughter to arrive home one hour and forty-five minutes later than her cerfew. When Gauri finally gathered up the courage to push the door open she found a completely different scene inside. A party was goin on in full swing. Gauri stood in awe of all the beautiful men and women dressed in their finest clothes. She tried to remind herself if her grandmother had mentioned anything about the party to her, but her mind was blank, as she was still trying to get Shiv out of her head. Suddenly she felt her hand grabbed and she was dragged to one corner.
It was Suguna, Ipshitta's mother, Gauri's nanny.
"Where have you been? Your grandmother has asked about you a million times and I have been stalling her telling her you are in ur room studying and will be down soon. Now run up and wear something nice and quickly come downstairs. And make sure no one sees you." Suguna looked at Gauri and found her smiling and dazing off. "Gauri? Did you hear what I said?" She shook Gauri out of her trance.
"Yah, yah.." Gauri smiled back and rushed upstairs, without a care of her grandmother catching her sneaking upstairs to her room. As she looked in her closet to find something appropriate to wear, she wondered what colour was Shiv's favorite. She thought and thought and then suddenly smiled as a light bulb went on. He seemed to be found of black. So thinking no further Gauri, pulled out her favorite black suit that had orange embroidery on it and quickly put it on. Quickly running a comb through her hair she decided to join the party downstairs, eventhough she would much rather, stand in front of the mirror and imagine Shiv standing beside her.

"Ah, meet my younger grandaughter, Gauri." Gauri's grandmother introduced her to her friends. Gauri smiled back and shook everyone hand. It was one old lady after another, when finally her hand was grabbed firmly by a young man. Gauri immediately raised her eyes to meet his, as she looked into his eyes, she wriggled her hand to get it free from his hold. There was something about the way he looked at her that made her felt exposed in front of him. She felt uncomfortable and a chill ran down her spine as he gave her a sly smile.
"Gauri, this is Shashank. He is Mr. Sharma's son and is soon going to be taking over his father's buisness, even though he is still not finished college. One of the youngest buisnessmen of the country." Gauri looked from her grandmother back at Shashank and finally managed to pull her hand free from his hold. Suddenly she felt Maya's hand on her shoulder, she spoke as she came up from behind her, "Don't get any ideas though Gauri, he is already taken... by me." Maya now stood beside Shashank and slipped her hand in his. Gauri smiled back and wished she could find a way to like Shashank, but there was just something about him that she didn't like. She wanted Maya to have a good life and if Shashank was going to be a part of it, she hoped that her first opinion about him was wrong.

Gauri stood in one corner and watched everyone enjoy the party.
"Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry..." Ipshitta whispered in her ear and Gauri turned to look at an obviously appologetic Ipshitta. Gauri decided to tease Ipshitta for a bit, and angrily turned around. "Oh Gauri, I am sooo sorry, you know how I am totally forgot that you didn't the know the way, and plus that Anupam with all his talking made me more confused and then u know your grandmtoher's temper and how scared I am of it... I mean that is teh only thing in the world that I am scared off... but there something I am more scared off and that is you being angry with me so please don't be...." Gauri now covered Ipshita's mouth making her stop...
"Okay, okay I forgive you... I am not mad. " Gauri said smiling. Ipshitta looked at Gauri and realized that something about her was different.
"Gauri...?" Ipshitta wanted to ask something but didn't exactly know what... and then she spotted Shashank dancing with Maya. "Who is that Maya dancing with?" She suddenly forgetting her first question... "Oh him, some bussinessman's son, Maya is getting engaged to."
"What? That witch! Why does she get the rich prince??"
"Ipshitta! Money isn't everything! What about love?"
"Love!?! *%^#%$#^, please Gauri don't tell me you believe in all that."
"Acha, if you dont' believe in love Ipshitta, what were you doing behind Anupam's motorcycle today?" Gauri laughed as she asked.
"Please...that was out of complete helplessness and nothing else... by the way how did you get home?" Ipshitta asked...
"Shiv..." but before Gauri tell Ipshitta all that had happened, she felt Shashank's hand snake around her waist from the back, making Gauri freeze. "Won't you dance with you to-be brother-in-law, my dear sister-in-law?"
Gauri wanted to say no, she wanted him to let go of her, but instead a few seconds later she found herself on the dance floor with Shashank. She looked down at their feet as he continued to tighten his hold around her waist. "You are beautiful you know that." He spoke. "A lot more beautiful than your older sister..." Shashank now laughed as Gauri looked up at him, with anger spilling out of her eyes. "You have beautiful eyes. You know, now that your grandmother has approved me for Maya, I will be around a lot more often. We could..." before he could go any further, filled with disgust Gauri pushed Shashank back and ran up to her room.
*****The next morning*****
Gauri sat in the library chewing on the back of her pencil. Even though her night had ended with her tears as she cried for Maya and the man she had chosen to be in her life, she had woken up with a smile on her face as she had dreamt of Shiv. "Anupam... how are you and Shiv friends? You both are sooo...." Gauri wondered out aloud as she smiled just the mere thought of him.
"Different right?" Anupam finished her question as he pulled out a book from a shelf. "Hmm... well..." But before Anupam could start he stopped and looked at Gauri, "but why do you want to know about Shiv?"
"Me? ...Oh....ummm....errr...." Gauri stumbled as she found herself at a loss of words. Anupam contined to watch her as she blushed and panicked.
"You don't like him do you?" He asked.
"No... I mean, I don't think so... errr...ummm... I don't know ...ma..y...be...?" Gauri answered as she twisted her fingers out of nervousnes.
"Uh oh..." Anupam worried.
