Amu,

Thanks for chipping in your ideas.

Jus a lil clarification though, I wrote the article, very much considering the present times and also considering the various exceptional women who have made a difference , but yet by and large the issue is the same and that is what I considered...

I believe, some of my comments have given you a different idea of how and what I had considered while writing this post! 😊

Cheers!

Roohaani , thank you so much for replying, well, the discussion is not entirely based on a character of KAA, but with the portrayal of women in KAA, Gauri, Nikhila and now Aastha!

I agree the topic was more generalized, but with references to the characters of KAA..😊

I request every woman , who reads this post, I urge thee, to please ask yourself these questions:

Are we standing up against any injustice done unto a woman?

What is required prior to any action is faith in oneself. Once you take an initiative then, whatever the struggle may be like, you are bound to get somewhere. About us standing up against any injustice, it seems as though many woman themselves unfortunately act passively to such acts. I will not say that attempts have not been made, indeed they have. But the success of these attempts have either been short-lasting due to one reason or another, or have lost momentum as the leaders have succumbed to interventions. Despite that, I keep in mind and appreciate the struggles endured by many to come this far to achieve whatever has been acclaimed.

Are we living a life , that is we so deserve as women, a right to our own , thought , and freedom?

Absolutely. Civilization was not always based upon segregation of the sexes, and even at earlier times, woman have seen the heights enjoyed by men. It is just a circular movement which at some point needs to be intervened in, and shown towards the straighter passage. But we also have to acknowledge the positions enjoyed by woman in contemporary times. The struggle to get this far has been long and tough, to give it away so selflessly would not only be unfortunate but impractical.

Are we not supporting those inane and perversive portrayals of woman in movies and serials more so often and only whine as a necessary socialistic norm and choose not to anything?

Portrayals of women in serials is an interesting subject. Good or bad, its always the women who clash. She's either "mahaantah ki moorti" or "maathe ka kalank". I think this is where the distinction between "real" and "reel" sets in. Don't be fooled! Reality bites, wake up and don't allow it to.

Are we really excersing the right to our lives and freedom , not jus a women , but as humans? Are we really?

To an extent. I think that certain stereotypes and images are so ingrained in our minds that it is taking much effort to break the chains. But I think with woman's groups and such, we are attempting to get somewhere. However, often when we take such steps, we get entangled in the institutions and restrictions imposed on woman as most of these intitutions are laid out by men. The stronger we carry ourselves, the better able we will to match the obstacles.

The world has come of age, have the women really come of age?

Have hope! When such thoughtful and broad minded ppl as yourself exist in the world, we have potential. Its sad that when I look at the old lady pass the sweet into her grandson's mouth as her granddaughter looks on pained. But time still holds possibilities. Its up to us what we make of them.

Has The Indian Woman really come of age, if all a successful young woman, who is reigning as the TV soap monopolist , can only churn out stories propogating only age old , inane and inpisid conventions and beliefs only because the rest of the women crave for it? Has the Indian Woman really come of age?

To that, I am going to make a single comment. You mentioned earlier something along the lines of "literate and illerate". Apparently we live in a progressive era, but when we see and hear about a literate and supposedly progressive family allowing their to-be daughter-in-law perfrom acts based upon age-old customs, it makes me wonder. What are the "illiterate" or even literate women out there getting as an impression from the one whom they "idolize"?

Ask yourselves , my dear woman friends, please do...What is the Real Picture?

Look in the mirror... she'll tell you all.

PS: I am aware of the exceptional woman who have made a mark , and in this post I have only raised an issue related to television which has such a strong impact on many a viewers of all ages and especially women!

lol... um... I read that a little later didn't I?šŸ˜•šŸ˜³

No offence intended to anyone. This topic has been posted only to begin a thought process that would in some way provoke us all to think and act , an attempt , among the many attempted before...

My goodness Boss... Aapne toh sabka talaah lagadiya... Kya mast likha hai... Ek dum chakaas! Seriously Di, you are amazing with words. They depend solely on you to give them meaning. And your grasp of knowledge and intellect amazes me. Keep it going... We need women like you to show the way!! Apun ka kya hai... hum toh tehre aapke underkešŸ˜‰šŸ˜†

Bilkul koi funda nahin raha... Ande ko aapne smash kar dala.

Cheers,

dc
