Tyra Banks is African American, and she's a georgeous model. All of Hollywood thinks so. Therefore it doesn't matter that she is dark. Is this speaker really from this era?

haha omgg u like read my mind!i soo agree wid everything u said!shilpa needs 2 think b4 opening her mouth!

That was indeed an inappropriate comment by Shilpa, I agree w/ you.

Some people are obsessed about fair skin. I think this obsession is stemming from their idolization of foreign (white) celebrities. Many people in india for some reason look up to them. They want to copy them or look like them b/c they think they are more 'cool' or more beautiful.

I have a fairer-than-average skin tone, but I wish that I was darker, more like the average indian!

Perhaps, I am being too serious, lolz. But think about it, that is called setting a bad example as a celebrity. She is entitled to her opinion, like I am, so I think she is totally wrong.

well, being fair or dark is not the question....and first and foremost, i want to clear this misconception😊.....yes, fair skin is a craze in india...but LETS NOT STEREOTYPE all indians as western wannabies..........not all indians are running behind a fair skin.....i am indian, have been born and brought up here, and am brown and have absolutely no complaints whatsoever ........yes, in some parts of india, fairness or gorapan is a craze....but most of the educated lot dont care two shits about the skin colour......most of the supermodels and film actressess are dark....take Sheetal Mallar, Jesse Randhawa, Bipasha Basu, Sushmita Sen, Lara Dutta,Diana Hayden,Rani Mukherjee, none of these are ghostly white and all are farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr more popular than Mrs.Agnihotri.......even in the west, there are people like Halle Berry, Tyra Banks,Beyonce,JLo etc who are not white but are just awesome.....dark skin is in no way considered to be inferior....Bipasha Basu has been voted india's most desirable woman, beating even aishwarya rai........and Mrs.Agnihotri has previously even called Bipasha "black"........

What's more important are the features...ne can be white and lok ugly orelse be dark and beautiful.....and the latter are more ogled at.......Abhishek Bacchan has good decent features and the whole nation is going gaga over him 😳 ......Bipasha too has beautiful eyes and expressive features 😃 .......Sheetal Mallar is one of the most beautiful women i have laid my eyes on 👏 .......what's there in skin tone 😕 .....at the end of the day, all are indians(or of indian origin) and in front of an angrez, we are all brown.........big deal 😕

And to say that on national television was one of the stupidest, most petty, ,childish and dumbest thing 🤢 ....one is entitled to have think the way one wants, but saying it on national television, and that too in a negative manner(she really just said that to bring down abhi) is just obnoxious.......everyone censured it.....she just ended up receiving all the flak for 1) boasting about her husband and bragging about the adulation...trust me,in an ocean full of abhi's fans, Mr.Mishra's fans and Mr.Agnihotri's fans are like droplets of water.. 2) she hit upon the wrong nail by saying that abhi is dark and one needs a torch at night to look at him(or something like that😕...hell, everyone's invisible in dark..even the fairest person)...........and its because of such people who proclaim the supremacy of the fair skin tone, that yet some indians are running behind a fair skin..... ........one cannot call her a racist as that's not approppriate but she's a chauvinist.........and no comparison between abhishek bacchan and telly stars like apurva and mihir....ABHI IS ABHI, and will become the superstar in a few more years....these star wives need to be myopic........yes, the fact that he's a bacchan is a great incentive but he has proved his mettle too and completely rocks.....his attitude is cool, and loves the adulation he gets instead of complaining unlike the telly stars👏

You are right about everything you said. Very well put Buffie. Yes, racist is more appropriate about American comments similar to these. I used this word too, so maybe I could have used a better word.
But if you think about it, there are two or three races in South Asia too. They are not necessarily distinct by color, they are claimed by ethnicity.
