Chapter 15: Did you say something?
The day was ending with a beautiful sun setting, it painted the sky with warm tones of pink, orange and yellow. Manik stared at its beauty and had only one thought in his mind, his wife. The divine color of the sunset reminded him of her beautifully tanned skin. The view reminded him of how she loves cheesy romantic moments like this while his boy brain mostly desired lust. He shakes that thought out of his head and tries to think the way nandhini does. He looks at the sunset with more concentration, closing his eyes he sees images of her face in his subconscious mind. He felt her presence near him, her hand touching his hand. Her skin was so soft, he gripped her tighter and realized he wasn't imagining this. He opened his eyes and got a glance of nandhini standing right beside him.
"Nandhini, tum yahan?" He asks confusingly. Nandhini looks around confusingly.
"This is my house, my room, I'm your wife, why are you so surprised? Or kahan jaati mein?" She states the obvious and giggles. He rolls his eyes and gives her shoulder a light push.
"I mean did the baby shower end?" he asks as his life came back to him.
"Yes it ended, why are you upstairs? All the guys are downstairs." Nandhini asks. Manik tries to remember why he came up then raises his finger as he remembered.
"We were up here all day then went downstairs to take a dip in the pool. But I forgot to bring my swimming costume so lene aya tha room mein and I saw this beautiful sunset or isi ki khubsoorti mein kho gaya" he says with a smile and plays with her hair. Nandhini nods her head and giggles.
"Kyew poet ban ga ho ya ek 13 saal ki lerki ho?" Nandhini teases him and he gives her a annoyed look and nandhini laughs at him more. She holds him by the waist.
"Okay mere shahir, change into your swim suite. The girls are here too; let's all enjoy an evening dip" she says with a smile.
"But the girls probably don't have their costumes..." manik says and nandhini interrupts him.
"We all skinny dipping..." she says seriously and manik just looks at her in shock. He went speechless then after a few moments of awkward silence nandhini bursted out laughing.
"HAHAHA im joking baba. Mere pass extra costumes ha, haan they aren't Aliya and mukti type but it will do for today" she says while laughing loudly and manik takes a deep breath.
"God nandhini! Kabir was right, meri biwi pagal ha" he says and nandhini immediately looks at him confusingly.
"And why would kabir say that?" She asks suspiciously. Manik jumps and walks towards his cuboard.
"We should change and go downstairs, sub wait keraha ha na" manik says and nandhini lets it go but she knew something was up.
At the pool:
The entire gang was having fun in the pool together. They played marco polo and other pool games and because it was night time it was even more fun under the moonlight. But even despite the gang having fun nobody's head was in the game. Everyone's attention was on one another. Mukti was trying her best to avoid aryaman but at the same time she did not want everyone to notice it. Manik was trying to find an excuse to talk to mukti alone to talk about telling Aliya everything. Nandhini had a close eye on manik and kabir as she was suspicious that something is up. Dhruv was hell of nervous as he felt guilty for what he did today and Aliya could see the guilt on his face and was suspicious as well. Aliya noticed that mukti had been really quite since morning and was suspicious about that as well. Kabir was just trying to notice chemistry between mukti and aaryaman. And navya was worried about mukti and Aliya's friendship and could notice that mukti was avoiding her.
Everyone eventually just sat by the pool side and just looked at each other. Nobody said a word, just silence. Everyone's brains were full of questions or concerns. Surprisingly the person to break this weird silence was younika, she walked outside to the pool area and everyone looked at her.
"My my, what do we have here? The entire gang? Tum logo ka koi kaam dhandha nahi ha? Pura din bus time pass kerete ho?" she taunts them and manik aggressively rolls his eyes and stands up and walks towards her. His body still dripping chlorine water.
"Younika we did have kaam dhandha but you ruined it by buying the company we produced our album for. Pehle dosro ka life mein interfere kerna band kero then question them. Or vese bhi Aaryaman is a business man and Aliya is a fashion designer. And nandhini, app ki bahu she has just been hired to teach a 3rd grade class music composition along with being in NH3. Not all of us want to get impregnated by a rich man and trap him, spending our entire life off of him" Manik says and tauntingly looks at her. Younika flared up in anger and raised her hand to slap him but he held her hand.
"Tch tch younika. Don't get physical, you don't want dad to return the favor do you?" Manik says with an evil smile and younika walks away. Nandhini stands up and runs to manik.
"Why did you tell her about the teaching job manik? Mene woh job abhi tak accept nahi ki ha" Nandhini says in anger.
"Toh kerlo. Apply isi liya kiya tha ka accept kerogi so whats the big deal?" he asks her. Nandhini takes a deep breath.
"It is a big deal manik. I was thinking about the job; I have not accepted it yet. Or yeh baat mene tum sa akele mein ki thi, as my husband. Why tell younika?" nandhini yells at him. Everyone else awkwardly looks at them fight. They wanted to stop them but knew that they should let it be.
"Nandhini itni melodramatic kyew horhi ho? Younika ko boldiya toh boldiya. Who cares, not like she does" manik says and nandhini opens her mouth wide.
"Mein or melodramatic? You know what, mein ja rahi hoon" she says and walks away in anger.
"Kahan?"he yells.
"Upne room mein" she says and finally leaves. Manik looks at the entire gang and they all awkwardly look at him.
"Iss ghar mein jub bhi aate ha kuch na kuch hota ha" Kabir jokes and everyone hits him and gestures him to shut up. Manik kind of agrees so he giggles under his breath.
"I'll get some drinks for everyone, mukti can you help me" Manik says and mukti nods her head and follows manik to the kitchen. As soon as they enter the kitchen manik pulls mukti to the side.
"Listen yaar you need to tell Aliya everything, about harshad and about aaryaman" manik whispers and mukti opens her eyes wide.
"How do you know about me and aaryaman? Did nandhini tell you. God is lerki ka pait mein koi baat nahi rehti" mukti yells and manik shakes his head.
"NO NO mutki... no nandhini did not tell me anything well she told me that Aliya and Aaryaman dated but she did not tell me about your one-night stand" manik says and mukti hits his arm.
"it was not a one night stand okay!" she yells and manik puts his finger on her lips.
"Kyew phir sa ?" He asks and she hits him again.
"I don't know. I'm so confused kya kero?" she asks in worry and manik thinks for a while.
"Firstly tell Aliya please!" he begs her and she thinks about it.
"I'll try. But first you go upstairs, upne biwi ka pass. Jao manao usko. We will let ourselves out." Mukti says and pushes him out of the kitchen. Manik smiles and tries to stay but she continues pushing him.
"Go!" she yells and he finally agrees and tries leaving but then mukti pulls him back.
"Kya? Ja toh raha ho. Ub kyew rok rahi ho?" he asks and notices she was thinking something.
"Ager nandhini na nahi bataya about me and aaryaman then kisne bataya? I literally told nandhini and navya this morning. Or navya tumhe kuch kyew bolegi?"mukti thinks deeply. Manik knew she was getting suspicious. He couldn't tell her that he figured it out when the boys were spying on the girls.
"Kabooter na bataya "manik jokes with a guilty face. Mukti hits him again.
"Aaryaman na bataya na? Oh I will kill him!" Mukti yells and manik hits his forehead.
"He did not tell me baba" manik says and mukti looks at him anger.
"Toh kya tum psychic ho? Visions aate ha?" mukti asks in frustration.
"Esa hi kuch samjh lo" Manik says and winks at her and then leaves the kitchen and walks upstairs to his bedroom.
Manik opens the door to his room and sees that it was empty. His eye search for nandhini but she was not in the room. He walks towards the bathroom door and knocks and waited for a few seconds. The door opened and nandhini looked at him in anger. She wore her night dress and had a brush in her hand. Manik smiled and tried to play with her hair but nandhini gestured him to go away and slammed the door on his face. Manik rolled his eyes and sat on the bed and waited for her to come out. She can't stay in there all night' he thought.
After 30 minutes of waiting nandhini finally came out and looked at manik from across the room and then shifted her eyes away from him. Manik smiled and gestured her to sit on the bed. Nandhini rolled her eyes and grabbed a book and sat on the bed and started reading it.
"Everyone left, if you are wondering" Manik says slowly hoping nandhini would react but she stayed silent and buried herself in the book.
"So nandhu mein soch raha tha, we should try something new" manik says and nandhini looks at him confusingly, still not uttering a word.
"You know 50 shades type new" manik says and laughs loudly and nandhini opens her eyes wide. She then makes an annoyed face and picks up the pillow and places it in-between them and then continues reading her book.
"haha I was joking baba. Itna seriously kyew le rahi ho. Or yeh deewar kyew? Meri ek hi biwi ha or us sa bhi itni dooriya? Mein mer jaonga, bhook sa" he jokes and winks at her and she rolls her eyes in anger again. She snatches manik's pillow from behind him and throws it on the floor. She then points on the floor gesturing manik to sleep down there. Manik just looks at her in surprise and stopped smiling. He took a deep breath.
"Why did you throw my pillow on the floor?" he asks in anger and nandhini continues ignoring him. Manik just looks at her in shock. He slowly extends his hand and grabs her book and starts giggling, nandhini looks at him in anger and tries to snatch the book back but he stood up on the bed and he was way taller than her. Nandhini got up and tried jumping on the bed and grabbing it but manik's hand was too far away for her but she still tried her best for a few minutes till she flew off the bed as she jumped. She landed hard on the ground and manik just opened his mouth wide as he saw her fall. For a few seconds he was just surprised then he got off the bed and walked towards her.
"Oh my god are you okay?" he asked as he held her head and made her sit up. Nandhini tried opening her eyes and just looked around the room and at manik confusingly. She then held her stomach tightly.
"Oww" she yelled and breathed heavily.
"Let's go to the hospital ao..." manik says and tries to get her to stand up but she gestures him a no. Nandhini and manik just look at each other for a few seconds then they both burst out laughing at the same time.
"Hahahaha" Nandhini laughs.
"hahaha you literally flew off the bed and bang on the floor hahahaha" he laughed so hard that he had to hold his stomach. Nandhini laughed with him and hit his arm.
"hahaha shut up, it hurts oww hahaha" She said in pain but couldn't stop laughing. She then looked at manik and held his hand.
"Why do we fight so much?" she asks with a smile and manik raises his eyebrows.
"No no I did not fight! You were the one ignoring me!" He says.
"Im sorry" She says and leans in for a kiss and manik smirked. She gave his lips a light peck then parted from him.
"haha I can't believe I fell off the bed like a 5-year-old kid" nandhini says and starts laughing again and manik laughs even harder.
"HAHAHA and nandhu I'm sorry, I shouldn't have told younika" he says while laughing. Nandhini holds his hand again.
"Call her mom please" nandhini requests him and manik immediately stops laughing and has a serious expression.
"Nandhini, aj kehdiya phir mat kehna. Okay? This is just not possible" he says and stands up from the floor and faces the wall. Nandhini stands up with the support of the bed as well and walks towards him and taps his shoulder.
"Why not manik. She is your mom and she gave you birth. Itni nafrat kyew? I know she is not the nicest person ever lekin maa toh akhir maa hoti ha na" nandhini says softly. Manik turns around in anger.
"MAA JESI EK BHI QUALITY HA US MEIN?" He screams at nandhini and she takes a step back from manik.
"firstly calm down. And esa bhi kya kerdiya mom na?" nandhini asks in a soft voice. Manik laughs.
"haah esa kya kiya? Pocho kya kya nahi kiya! Nandhini you don't know how I grew up; you don't know the past. Fab 5 does and that is why they hate her as well. But you know that she slept with harshad and you still don't get it?" Manik asks.
"I agree it is a little weird that she slept with a guy your age but your parents are separated, she has the freedom to be with anyone. So technically it isn't that wrong" nandhini says and manik rolls her eyes.
"The harshad thing is only 1% of the story nandhini. You don't know everything, tum nahi samjho gi" manik says. Nandhini hugs him.
"Toh samjhao mujhe. Batao kya kya huwa tha tumhare bachpan mein. Manik I want to know every positive and negative aspect of your past. I want to know you, your soul, I want to know you so deeply so that nobody can say they know you better than me. I'm your soulmate, connect me to your soul. Trust me please" Nandhini says with a smile. Manik looks at her sadly.
"Nandhini I didn't go and tell fab 5 everything. They were there when everything was happening bachpan mein. I never sat down and told anyone all this and I don't think I have the courage to do that anyways. Please don't make me relive my past. Let it go please"manik says sadly and sits down on the bed and nandhini nods her head and sits down next to him.
"I understand. You can tell me whenever you are ready. Mein vese bhi kahi jaane wali nahi ho. Puri zindagi ha humare pass. Ek na ek din you will be ready" She says with a smile and then spots the book next to manik and manik looks at the book too and grabs it quickly and they both start laughing again.
"Ub toh book dedo please" She begs and manik nods a no. He throws the book far away and nandhini looks at him in anger and he giggles like a mischievous little kid. He leans closer to her.
"Right now your eyes should be on me" he says as he holds her chin and pulls her face close. His lips slowly touch her lips and they blissfully kiss each other. Manik lifts her night dress a little in-between the kiss and nandhini pulls herself back from him.
"Nah uh. Not today manik. Kal" she says with an evil smile and sits back down at her bedside with the book. Manik rolls his eyes as he sat on the edge of the bed.
"You can strip in front of 30 girls but not me" Manik mumbles softly under his breath and nandhini still heard him and sat up in shock.
"What did you say?" she asks surprisingly. Manik looks at her confused.
"Me? Nahi toh. Mene toh kuch nahi bola" Manik says seriously and holds in his laughter.
"No you said..."Nandhini says and stops and thinks hard.
"What did I say nandhini? Tum hi bata do" Manik says seriously and raises his eyebrows.
"Woh... umm... You said... You know what you said! Pretend nahi kero!" She yells in anger and manik giggles.
"Era jub kuch bola hi nahi toh mein kya kero?" he says with a smile.
"Manik you know what you said. But how could you possibly know that?" She asks confusingly.
"Know what nandhini? Kya bol rahi ho?" manik yells and tries really hard to hold his laughter.
"But..."nandhini says.
"Kuch nahi bola mene meri maa. You are just hallucinating, maybe you are pregnant or you are simply psycho"manik says and nandhini hits his arm.
"I am neither! And vese bhi pregnancy or hallucination ka kya link ha? Pregnant women don't hallucinate" nandhini asks confusingly.
"Abha mene esa hi boldiya. Soja psycho" Manik begs her and lies down on his side of the bed and giggles while facing the opposite direction.
"Kuch toh gerber ha" Nandhini whispers and closes the lights and lies down as well.
Next morning:
"Manik... Manik... Manik uthooo..." Manik hears a deep womanly voice call him. He felt being tapped as well. He opened his eyes slowly and saw younika in front of him. He opened his eyes wide and pulled up his blanket and sat up in shock. Manik looked over and nandhini was still sleeping.
"What the hell younika? You can't just barge into our room. And how did you open the lock?" Manik screams at her and nandhini wakes up with the noise as well and stands up from the bed quickly and blankly looks at younika.
"I tried calling you and nandhini but both of your phones were switched off and the door is sound proof so I used the spare keys. Manik your dad..." She said softly and manik opened his eyes and stood up from the bed.
"Dad what? Tell me god dammit!" He screamed at her and nandhini ran over to manik and rubbed his arm gesturing him to calm down.
"Your dad had a heart attack. He needs you in Pune" Younika says seriously and manik sits down in tension. Nandhini tries to comfort him.
"It's okay manik. He will be fine. We both should go there." Nandhini says and starts pulling out a few outfits for both of them.
"Wait nandhini. I am going alone; you don't know my dad. He is not very accepting of new people and he has never met you. I'll take Dhruv with me." Manik says and nandhini looks at him in disgust.
"Enough manik. Why am I always out of the loop? This is my family too now! Is fab 5 always going to be before me? Mein is ghar ki bahu nahi ho kya?" Nandhini asks in anger and manik was too stressed to care right now. Younika tapped nandhani's shoulder.
"Nandhini, right now is not the right time. Let it be" She whispers and manik looked up at younika. Nandhini took a deep breath.
"I'm sorry. Tum jao, I'll pack your things" she says and quickly packs manik's things and hands him the bag.
"Thanks. Take care" Manik says and quickly hugs nandhini and leaves the room. Nandhini looked at younika as she stood there. She thought younika was going to go with him but she just stood there.
"App nahi gae?" she asked her.
"Jub malothra tumse milna nahi chata toh mujh sa kya milega" Younika says with a smirk. Nandhini nodded her head.
"Come sit" She said offering her to sit on an unmade bed because she didn't know what else to say to her as she just stood in her room. Younika totally ignored her offer an didn't respond to it.
"Nandhini I know our family might seem strange to you and you probably already sensed this but I will still tell you this. Malhotra khandan mein biwi ko us ka darja (Position) milega but bahu ko nahi milega. Tum manik ki biwi toh ban gae ho lekin is khandan ki bahu kabhi nahi ban paogi" younika said very frankly and nandhini just looked at her confused.
"App ko bhi nahi mila tha?" nandhini asks curiously and younika nods her head.
"But why?" nandhini asks with disappointment.
"Lambi kahani ha. Kabhi fursat mein sunaongi tumhe" Younika says and leaves the room and nandhini just sighs.
"I already miss you manik" Nandhini whispers.
