The next day, Nandini had left home for work earlier than usual. She needed that extra time to pick Manik up from the hospital and head to his home where Nyonika would be waiting with... ugh... whatever... But this was one piece of information she didn't dare to share with her father. True, the hatchet might have been buried for the time being. But she wasn't sure whether he had let go off his grudge towards Manik as of yet. So for the time being, she lied to him that her boss Raghav wanted her to work on some reports before setting off for her usual field work.

The previous day's events had left her with a very sick feeling. Her head still felt heavy and her eyes swollen and groggy. Breakfast was a herculean task with all the nauseous feeling churning in her guts. To top it all off, anxiety levels had hit its peak. She had no clue why Nyonika wanted to see her. Something told her that trouble was ahead. She wants you to set me straight. That's what Manik told her. Her gut instincts warned that Nyonika had more up her sleeve.

At City Hospital, Manik had already completed his shift. Unlike other days, he wasn't in his uniform. He was in his favourite (and usual) white shirt and cream coloured pants that hugged his tall, slender frame. As he stood at the staff lockers and pulled out his dirty set of scrubs from within his allotted space, Rose moved in from behind stealthily. She came to a halt at about a micro-inch away from him and grinned excitedly. An unwary Manik continued to stuff his laundry into a plastic bag until... he turned around to leave and...

... Was alarmed to be confronted with a huge pair of thorny jackfruits at his face.

"Hoh-ly shit!" Manik sprang back and slammed against his locker with a startled gasp. It took him a few seconds to register what was before him and the irritating cackle that emanated from it. "Rose? What the hell!" He was breathless.

"Hawww! You poor baby! Look at you! You look chooo cute when you get scared!" She giggled and pulled his cheeks hard.

Manik recoiled from her vicious grip. He was annoyed at having been stumped like that. "Cute my foot! You nearly gave me a heart attack!!!"

Rose pouted and lowered her head a little. "I'm sorry. I was just trying to have some fun. You know how I luuurrrve to play with you, don't you?"

Manik rolled his eyes in disapproval. "Jeez. I'd hate to be your doll."

She cackled at his sarcasm. In fact, she made it a point to approve all of his words with an encouraging laugh. It was her way of showing him that she was interested. "Moreover, if your heart ever stops, be assured that I'm here to get it to race like a Ferrari." She crooned in a seductive voice and winked at him. The wink was effective enough to get his insides gurgling. This was new to him. All this flirting stuff.

"Alright Ms. Schumacher..." he replied in a bored tone.

"Schumacher!!!?" Much to Manik's great annoyance, Rose started to cackle like a goose once again. "Awww! You're really very funny Manik. And that's the best thing I like about you. Your extraordinary sense of humour." She yanks hard at his cheeks again but Manik was quick to knock it off.

"You really need to stop doing that Rose," he said irritably, "that hurts like hell."

"Aww... I'm sowee!!! Here's to make you feel better." She surprised him with a swift hug and a kiss to his cheek.

Not again! Manik was exasperated. When it came to showering her affection on Manik, she was very particular to never miss out on a single opportunity to hit on him. Impress him. Win over him. And as for him, he made it a point to show his disgust by wiping off the lipstick from his cheek. "Fine. Got to make a move now," he said coldly. He was desperate to end this pointless conversation and get to Nandini. She must be waiting for me, he thought.

"Go? Go where? What's the big hurry? Let's talk for a while." His agitation reached a whole new level as Rose took the liberty of placing her hand on his chest. He could sense the warm teeny-weeny signals radiating out of her palm and pulsing through his entire body in the form of an uncomfortable tingling sensation.

"Erm--- I'd really love to Rose, but the thing is that---" Uncomfortable as he was, his words began to waver as he realized what she was doing. Playing with the buttons on the first half of his shirt.

Rose shot an impressed glance at him from head to toe. "Hmm. By the way... Someone's looking very sexy today. What's up handsome? What's with the new get up? Come on. Tell to momma."

Manik sighed wearily and rolled his eyes. "Nothing new. I didn't have a spare set of scrubs. So had to carry this to work."

"Mmm. I'm glad that you did. Do you know? I've been dying to see you in casuals like forever. And you've just made my biggest fantasy come true."

Manik gulped as he felt her undo the first button of his shirt and move down to the next. "Really?" he asked trying to be as sarcastic as possible. It was hard with all the stuff that was going on now. And right now, he was so disturbed that he wasn't sure whether he had to be surprised or on cloud nine or just crying. This was a pretty startling discovery to him. Never in his wildest dreams did he think that someone was secretly fantasizing about him.

"Yeah baby..." she almost sounded like a growling dog as she effortlessly undid the next and moved down further.

Manik was really nervous now. Yet he gulped again and sighed deeply. "Wow. That's new to me. Didn't realize that I had a secret admirer."

"In fact..." She continued to progress down his shirt as she spoke to him in a husky voice. "I'd love it if you could surprise me every day."

Manik began to reply but stopped as he sensed her brush her knee over his thigh. "Rose. What're you doing?" he asked in a serious tone.

"Setting up the ambience?" She bit her lower lip and winked at him seductively.

Manik got it. Crystal clear. She was in a good mood. "What ambience? See listen. This is ridiculous."

"Are you for real? This is fantastic." She spoke in a low voice and continued to work on the next button whilst she slid her electrifying hand over his thigh and made her way up to his---

"Shit!!!!" Manik gasped and shot off to another corner. His stomach was throbbing and he was shuddering from head to toe.

"What happened Manik?" she asked with an amused smirk.

He was raving. He wanted to shower her with a ton of abuses. He wanted to punch her senseless. He wanted to do a lot of things. But all what he could do was ball up his fists and scream like a banshee. "Ahhhrrrghhh Gawwwddd!"

He hastily picked up his bag and hurried off to the exit. Outside the gate, Nandini was already waiting for him on her scooty. She pulled off her helmet as she noticed the troubled look on his face.

"What's the matter? Someone screwed you or what?" she blurted out.

But he just boarded her vehicle with the same disgruntled pout. "Start the engine," he ordered.

"But just tell me what happened?" Nandini was worried now. Something was seriously wrong.

"Can we just leave!!!?" he snapped viciously to which Nandini flinched.

"Fine-fine!" she held up her arms in utter defeat, got on, pushed off to the streets and blended in with the traffic.

All the while, Manik had a tough time blocking the severe hallucinations of Rose's phantom hands glued over his crotch. In pure distress, he leaned forward and rested his head on Nandini's shoulder. She slowed down and glanced over her shoulder. "Manik? Are you okay?" She was concerned.

"No I'm not," he moaned with his head still on her shoulder. "I just want to die. I want to f**king kill somebody and go to prison. Just kill me! Arrgghhh Goddd!!!"

She pulled away from traffic and moved into a quieter area. Once there, she pulled off her helmet and got down whilst Manik continued to remain hunched on the vehicle.

"Okay. Now tell me. What is it?" She crossed her arms and waited for his story to which Manik threw his gaze around with absolute disgust etched onto his face and wrung his fists in agony.

"Urrrghhh!!! Arrrghhh!!!!" He made all sorts of growling and groaning noises to let out his frustration whilst Nandini watched him calmly.

"It's okay," she said quietly. "You can talk to me about it. Just relax and tell me. What is it?"

"ROSE!" he blurted out.

"Rose? Rose. Rose!!!" Nandini's expression changed rapidly from a question to comprehension to anxiety. If he had to freak out so much, then definitely... things had gone out of control.

"Rose." He confirms her doubts with a nod.

"What happened with Rose?" she asked curiously.

"Everything!!!" he snapped.

"Everything? What do you mean by everything?"

"Everything!!!! I'm... I'm just going to kill her. I'm going to run her over with a road roller! I'm going to knock down her watermelons with a bulldozer!!!" Manik was finding comfort in the variety of things he could do to take revenge. But nothing seemed to console him.

"Whoa! Just calm down! And tell me why you suddenly grew so fond of her?" Nandini was amused. She could now see the rest of the picture. Rose had definitely made a move and Manik wasn't able to digest it.

"Fond of her!!!? Give me a MASSIVE break for God's sake! Fond of her! My bloody foot!!! Arrrghhh!!!!"

"Can you stop freaking out? And tell me what happened?" Nandini was clearly getting annoyed now. She couldn't wait to hear what had happened to send him overboard.

"She tried to..." He sounded rather dramatic.

"She tried to?" Nandini raised her eyebrows.

"She tried to... Urghhh! Arghhh!!!" Manik was back to growling and groaning again!

"She tried to what?"

"Molest me!!!!"

"What?" Nandini was surprised at first but it didn't take long for that amused smirk to return to her face. "Why? What did she do to you?"

"She... touched me!!! Here and there!!!!" Manik looked disgusted. As if he was forced to gorge on a can of worms.

"Here and there? Where?"

"There!!!!" Manik was having a tough time in describing the horrifying moment that sent his guts lurching into his throat.

"There where?"

"There!!! Argh shit!!!" He buried his face into the darkness of his hands and moaned in great distress. This was too much for him to handle.

Meanwhile, Nandini had this irresistible urge to burst out laughing. But she looked down and smothered it with a quick brush of her finger over her lips. Manik noticed this.

"Why are you laughing?" he snarled angrily.

"I wasn't laughing," she lied.

"Yes you were" he snapped. "Don't deny it! I saw it! I caught you red handed, didn't I?"

"Oof baba, just calm down! You're just over reacting!"

"Over reacting?" Manik was stunned. "Nandini! I can't believe that you're telling me all this!"

"Come on yaar. Can't you see it? The girl likes you. She's crazy about you."

"But I'm not!!!" He stated adamantly.

"Why not? She's hot! She's sexy..." Nandini pointed out.

"So what!!!?"

"Yaar. Guys would die for a girl like her." She didn't really agree to her own words. But she wanted her friend to discover something new. Love. She wanted to see him with a girl for once. And it wouldn't happen until either of them took a step towards that new feeling. Manik definitely wouldn't. He was pretty reserved and wasn't the kind of guy who would jump in and propose a girl.

"Nandini... a girlfriend is not just about being sexy or having stuff to throw around! There's more to the picture. I agree. She's really attractive and sizzling hot but buddy... she's not my cup of tea. I've got to feel good with her. Comfortable. Just like the way I feel with you. With her... I feel nothing except for a couple of worms crawling down my back!"

I've got to feel good with her. Just like the way I feel with you. Those words gave her a warm feeling in the heart. It is indeed so good to know that someone values and cherishes your company. Nandini couldn't help but blush at this and she quickly looked away before turning back to him again. "So you feel good with me," she said through a smile.

"No doubts about that," he replied instantly. "With you, I feel like I'm in heaven."

"Yeah right," Nandini chuckled in disbelief. In heaven? That's quite over exaggerated.

"No seriously," he assured her. "With you, it's bliss. And that's the way I'd like to feel with my girl."

That's the way he'd like to feel with his girl. But there's more to a relationship of that sort. It's not just about feeling comfortable. There has got to be attraction. And that doesn't exist between us. Or does it...?

Nandini watched Manik with a blank expression as he rambled on about his ideal girl. People keep saying that we're in love. Are we? But no... we've never been attracted to each other.

"Fine, just chill now." Nandini straightened up. "We need to move it. Let's be honest. I was so tensed until I saw you."

"Tensed? For what?"

"You know... your mom..." Her face visibly dropped at the very memory of his mom. She dreaded meeting her and feared that she would say or do something hurtful.

"You don't have to worry about her," assured Manik. "Told you. She just wants to talk to you about me. And in fact, she blackmailed me into it by stopping her medications. And you know... it isn't good for her. She has to take it but she won't until she meets you."

"Aiyapppaaa!" Nandini raised her eyes to the sky and moaned in great distress.

"Don't worry yaar," he assured her again. "I won't let anything stupid happen. You trust me, don't you?"

"Of course I do..." replied Nandini with the same disgruntled expression. "But if she says something silly, I'm going to kill you and I mean it."

"With pleasure," he answered with a bow. "Shall we move now?"

Moments later, they taxied into the porch of the Malhotra's. Their journey didn't go entirely well though. Nandini was so troubled that she had gone and smacked into another biker who was coming from the opposite direction. Thankfully, both parties were cruising below 30 km/hr so it saved them from major damages. Needless to say, the biker had blew his lid at the girl for being so blind and Manik had to step in to save the day.

"Aiyappa. I'm sweating," she whispered as she wiped her soggy palms on her handkerchief.

"Chill. I'm there." He gave her a gentle pat on the arm and made his way in. Nandini followed suit and found Nyonika seated on the living room couch with the grimmest expression she had ever seen.
