CHAPTER 19

WALK TOGETHER...FOREVER...

I understood that I acted like a fool and again placed my head in her lap... I was smiling while she again ruffled my hair slightly... I closed my eyes again and then spoke "Nandini, thank you for today... you don't know what it means for me..." I felt a tear drop on my cheek and I immediately opened my eyes to look at her...I got up and cupped her face...I wiped the tears on her cheeks with my thumbs and looked into her eyes with all the love I had for her.

"What happened Nandini... I am there... bolo..." She smiled a bit and that got a smile on my lips too. She didn't say a word and hugged me tight. I understood the reason for her tears; she didn't know how to express herself.

I held her back with same fervor and we both were lost in each other's embrace. We stayed like that for some time and then she shifted a bit in my arms and we parted. Her eyes were down and I tucked the hair strands that were coming on her eyes, behind her ears. I raised her face by her chin and we looked into each other's eyes... I cupped her face gently again and then went close to her.

I kissed her forehead... "This is for meeting me in London..."

I kissed her eyes..."This is for giving me my new life and my family..." She smiled and kept her eyes closed...

I kissed her right cheek "...for giving me the reason for my existence..."

I kissed her left cheek "...for letting me in your life..."

I kissed her on the tip of the nose "...for accepting me with my flaws..."

Her breath was uneven when I got close to her and she began to shiver with my proximity... she clenched the bedsheet tightly and I closed my eyes... I got my lips close to hers and our breaths mingled...

Then I kissed her gently on the corner of her lips and spoke to her "This is for our new beginning...forever..."

I got a bit away and looked at her face which was shining with my every touch and a satisfaction crept inside me... Her eyes were closed and I took her in my arms, she cocooned in my embrace and I knew she was silently crying, but I let her do that and caressed her hair gently to comfort her.

Just then the alarm began to ring and we parted away... I snoozed off the alarm and then spoke to her softly "Nandini, you are ok..." She slightly nodded her head... I was a bit irritated as to how time just flied away and now I had to go away from her..."I don't want to go, but have to...dammm" She giggled slightly and that got a smile on my face.

I got up and began to wear my shoes and then looked for my car keys in my jeans pocket... She came and handed me the keys and my jacket. I took the jacket and the keys from her and said, "Not bad, abhi se practice kar rahi ho aane wale matches ki..." and winked at her... she was blushing and her cheeks had become the darkest shade of red.

"Don't blush so much Nandini, sabko pata chal jayega..." She immediately looked at me with wide eyes...

Nandini- kya pata chal jayega...😲

I just couldn't believe she was so innocent and thought of teasing her a bit... I leaned forward and said, "Vahi jo humare beech hai, tum janti ho..." I was trying to suppress my smile and looked at her.

Nandini- (nervous) kya hai...kuch...kuch bhi toh nahi... I don't know what you are talking about... (She looked here and there)

"Really, nahi pata..." I took a step towards her and she looked at me with wide eyes and then stepped a bit back... I kept moving towards her "Sach mein nahi pata, pakka..." She slightly nodded her head in a yes and kept stepping back...

I smirked and said "ok... so I'll tell you...you won't mind right..." She tried to move a bit back only to find the wall behind her and then looked at me... I marked her between my hands... Her breath got hitched as I leaned forward to get close to her lips... She began to tremble and I stopped... I smiled and then spoke to her softly.

"Aab toh pata chal gaya kya hai huamre beech...ya aur clearly, detail mein batau..."

Her eyes were closed and she smiled. I got away from her and stared at her as I never knew a girl could look so beautiful when she blushed. My phone again beeped as the second alarm began to ring... I snoozed it off and knew I had to leave now before I landed into trouble. I turned to walk towards the door and before opening the lock I spoke to her...

"Nandini, it's high time you stop stepping back... You need to step ahead... We need to walk together... forever..."

I turned to look at her and her face was flushed after hearing me...she smiled with her heart... I smiled back and then said "Bye..."

Nandini- Bye...

I opened the door and tiptoed downstairs... Luckily there was no one and I swiftly left. After reaching the hotel, I called up the reception and asked them to give me a wake me up call at 8:30 a.m. as I had to reach for my shoot at 11:00 a.m. I laid on the bed and remembered how everything had changed in a day. I got my phone and messaged Nandini.

"Think about what I said to you Nandini... Sleep well. Take care..."

I kept the phone away and with a content smile I just slept off.

NANDINI'S POINT OF VIEW-

After Manik left I stood near the window and was watching the darkness fade away with the few sun rays creeping up in the sky... Somehow my life was like that... However, after living in the darkness for a long time, Manik came as the new ray of hope and started to fill my life with colours. I still remember after I had met him in London even I had started to smile occasionally...I looked up and spoke to BAPPA...

"BAPPA, I now understand why you made me meet him...thank you BAPPA... please don't take this ray of hope away from me please... "

Tears started to flow when I remembered Manik's words, his restlessness to meet in those 6 months... i was overwhelmed with the fact that he cared for me so much. I was feeling extremely lucky to start a new journey with him. I placed myself on the bed, switched off the lights and then my phone beeped...It was Manik's message-

Manik: "Think about what I said to you Nandini...Sleep well. Take care..."

I was blushing as I read the message, my heart knew what he meant...I could still feel his touch and it just felt blissful as i remembered the reasons he gave me for kissing me .

MANIK'S POINT OF VIEW-

8:40 a.m., Second Wakeup call

I finally got up by the wake up call and placed the order for coffee before going for shower. I closed my eyes in the shower and the visuals from last night came in front of me... I didn't realize there was a loud knock on my door and finally I got out of my trance and shouted back... "Coming...just a minute..." I wrapped myself with bath gown and stepped outside to open the door...

FAB 5 dashed into my room and placed themselves on the bed... "What are you guys doing here?? everyone's awake so early..." and they all looked at me with questions in their eyes... I knew the questions and before they fired I decided to speak...

"Guys, nothing happened last night... We just spoke to each other and I came back..." I turned to fetch my clothes and then I heard them all grinning...I was a bit startled by it... "What???"

Mukti- Manik hum toh kuch pooch hi nahi rahe...vaise what are you talking about?? (She Smirked)

Dhruv- Bro you are blushing... (I immediately touch my cheeks and they were burning☺️...I looked away to hide myself...)

Cabir - Manik aisa kya hua raat ko...ki you are still blushing so much...

I quickly gathered myself and then spoke in a stern voice "Kuch bhi toh nahi hua... (I sighed and then spoke again...) Stop running your stupid brains ... guys voh Nandini hai remember..."

Their faces dropped with my reply and I smirked... There was a knock on the door and the room service had got coffee for all. I went to change and then came out to sit with them. We still had some time to discuss work stuff.

"Aliya, what's the update on the music launch?? I mean it shouldn't have been delayed... Our finance is tied up for the launch date we had decided, it would be a great loss for us..." I know my personal life was important, but work was important too for us...

Aliya- Manik but what can we do??? We wanted to do the launch and the announcement of venturing into music rights too at the same event...We are stuck... They are suggesting 4 weeks...

"No, it can't be done that way... Cabir, what does your team recommend?? Our Brand name would be spoilt if we don't do it..."

Cabir- Manik...you are right...we need someone to help us out planning the strategy again, but itne short notice pe... Manik we really need to sort out if losses are too much...

Dhruv- guys why don't we call up Nandini...I mean she helped us before putting together the plan as well as how to handle our Brand...maybe she can help us again...

I agreed with Dhruv's suggestion and then went to get my phone and was about dial her number when Cabir spoke...

Cabir- Manik, sirf work related hi baat karni hai na...I hope hummein kuch aur na sunane ko mil jaye... (Chuckled)

I gave an angry glare to him and then dialled her number... She didn't pick my call the first time...

Mukti- kya hua Manik??? Sab thik hai na??? You did something last night??... (Grinned)

I glared at her too and then again dialled her number... I knew she would be awake as she was supposed to work from home.

NANDINI'S POINT OF VIEW-

I had started to work from 10 a.m. and was on a quick call with my team members in Mumbai... "Priya, you need to patch me up once you get the details from Germany office... And ya can you set up the meeting before 2:00 p.m. today with Mr. Bhansali to discuss the last phase of implementation for the project..."

Priya- ok Nandini, I'll do it...

"Great...so let's discuss our short term plan again..." I was in middle of a heated discussion as the client requirements were absolutely not according to the terms decided before hand and I was working on my plan B to get things sorted out ASAP... Just then I saw my phone flashing Manik's name, but I couldn't pick it up... After 2 minutes he called me back...

"Guys, please re-check the figures and check the outlines of the final draft of proposal... I'll just be back in a minute..." I quickly put the meeting on mute and picked up Manik's call, I didn't wait to hear from him and spoke...

"Hi Manik, can you hold for 2 minutes please..."

Manik - Nandini...ok... I am there...

I unmuted my meeting and then quickly instructed them the things I needed in next 1 hour before my meeting with Mr. Bhansali. I picked up my phone and then spoke to Manik...

"Hi Good Morning...sorry for making you wait..."

Manik- Hey good morning its fine... I understand...

MANIK'S POINT OF VIEW-

There was an awkward silence between us and didn't knew how to talk ahead... It wasn't the first time we were speaking, yet it felt different... Maybe coz things between us had become different...We kept quiet and I could hear her breathing which was enough for me to get lost in her and it made me blush too...

Before I could speak Mukti took the phone and put it on speaker... I was a bit annoyed with her on doing that...

Mukti- Hi Nandini, sorry to disturb you both from your morning conversation, but we need your help...

[Nandini was blushing and was a bit startled with her words... it indeed was a different morning for her... Yet, she composed herself...]

Nandini- Hi Mukti, ya tell me how I can help?

I knew she was blushing and then Dhruv spoke...

Dhruv- Nandini we need your advice on the launch...

We all told her our problem and she patiently listened to us...

Nandini- guys I had checked your financial plans before... my suggestion is the same what Manik thinks, you should go ahead... In fact we can turn around and question the production house based on the liability they would owe you guys if the dates are shifted... Hhhmmm, Cabir can you patch me with your legal adviser in evening and we can sort out the problem and I can look into devising a new plan for you guys ASAP...

Cabir- ok done... I'll fix up the meeting...

Nandini - Guys, you need to sit with me for discussion... We don't have much time on hand... actually...I don't have much time with me, coz your launch date and my client project is getting over around the same dates...

It came as a shock to me when she said her client project is getting over, which meant she would leave for London... I had completely forgot about it and now after hearing this my heart was sinking, how could she think of going away from me, I wanted to question her... However, I knew it was not the right time to do it in front of everyone...

Cabir saw my face and guessed what made me upset... I was completely lost and didn't hear Nandini calling out my name... Cabir touched my shoulder and then I came back to senses...

Cabir - (softly) Manik, Nandini kabse bula rahi hai... answer her...

I nodded and then replied her back... "Ya Nandini...let's meet up after lunch on my shoot..."

[Nandini understood Manik was upset with something...but, decided to speak to him in private...]

Nandini- Alright... I'll come over to your shoot location... Guys see you at 3:00 p.m.

Everyone left and then I was about to leave for my shoot when I received Nandini's messaged me...

"Manik, can we have lunch together?? "

I was extremely upset with the realization that she would leave me again in a few days... the anger inside me was rising with every second and here she wanted to have lunch with me... I didn't reply her back... She then called me up...

Nandini- Manik, I'll come at 1:00 p.m...i had dropped a message but you didn't reply.

I was damm pissed off with her and spoke roughly ... " As if you care Nandini... stop pretending..."

[Nandini was a bit hurt by his words, as she didn't expect such behaviour from him...]

Nandini- Manik why are you speaking like this to me...(she sighed)... I'll come...let's have lunch together... I'll attend my meeting from there...

"Whatever..."

I hanged up and reached the sets... My old attitude was up and I made sure no one messed around with me specially Soha. I continued shooting without a break... I know I was being ruthless, but the pain inside me was too much.

Ramesh had come down from Mumbai and was there on my sets... Bosco called it a lunch break for 45 minutes and thats when we stopped... I walked towards my vanity van and opened the door, only to find Nandini there... I stepped inside and went straight to freshen up... I could hear her speaking to Ramesh clearly...

Nandini- Ramesh bhaiyaji aap bhi khana kha lijiye, Manik ke liye mein laga dungi...

I was trying to control myself from letting out my emotions, but couldn't understand her... I spoke to myself... "Agar itni care karti ho, toh jaa kyun rahi ho Nandini..." I stepped out and saw her laying the plates for us; she was serving food for both and smiled at me...

Nandini- Manik jaldi aao, khana thanda ho jayega...I won't heat it again...

I kept looking at her and the anger started to boil inside me... She came and held my hand to make me sit on the couch... I was staring at her, not a single line of stress was on her face and here I was dying every second with the thought she would leave me again...

Nandini- aarree dekh kya rahe ho khao...

She got a call and got busy in her discussion with her client Mr. Bhansali... And, that was it for me... I left the food and got up to leave...

[Nandini was completely shocked by Manik's behavioiur, she couldn't disconnect her call but tried t stop Manik by holding his hand, which he jerked away...]

Just then FAB 5 entered... They had witnessed what had happened and had sensed something was wrong between us...

Cabir - Manik what happened?? (Concerned) tu aise kyun jar aha hai bina khana khaye...

I turned to look at the plate and then looked at Nandini who tried to stop me by holding my hand again...

"Cabir, i am not hungry... (I looked at Nandini) We were supposed to have lunch together, looks like I need to wait... The way I have been waiting all these months... (I looked at Cabir and spoke sarcastically) Kya hai na Cabir aab toh aadat ho gayi hai mujhe wait karne ki... I am going for my shoot..."

I walked away to get out of vanity when I hear Nandini calling me from back... but I didn't stop and went for my shoot...

NANDINI'S POINT OF VIEW-

I was hurt by Manik's behaviour, I kept calling him but he didn't stop... tears started to brim on my cheek as I saw Manik walk away... FAB 5 came and hugged me... they took me inside the van..

Cabir- Nandini, I know Manik's behavior was not right... Look, I won't justify him but he is very depressed... Tum vapas jaa rahi ho, he just can't accept it... I hope you understand his situation...

I knew the reason for his anger and somewhere I knew he was upset because of me leaving back in a few days, but atleast he should have given me a chance to speak... but he just walked away...

Aliya- Nandini, look you have every right to be angry on him... 8 months Nandini...he waited just for you... we know these 8 months were like 18 years for him... (I looked at Aliya)... and Nandini now again... he just can't take it... I mean things just got sorted between you guys and... I interjected Aliya and spoke...

"Aliya please, its ok... Mein yaha kaam se aayi thi let's focus on that..."

I got up and fetched my laptop; they understood I was not ready to discuss the topic ahead with them... We started to dwell ourselves in the discussion and I was working on certain points... 3 hours passed by and then Dhruv ordered coffee for us... I was eagerly waiting for Manik to come, but there was no sign of him...

Mukti- Nandini, aajayega voh... I'll go and see him ok...

I gave a weak smile to her and just then Manik entered and glared at me... I gave him a weak smile and he looked away... FAB 5 tried to stop him, but he left for his dressing area... I stopped them from speaking to him and they left the matter...

The coffee came and Mukti went to give a cup to Manik...

Mukti- Manik, coffee...

Manik- I don't need it Mukti... I am fine...

Mukti- ya dikh raha hai kitna fine hai tu... (angry) Manik atleast ek baar uski baat sun le...

Manik- Mukti enough...she wants to go, fine with me... mein aur kar bhi kya sakta hun... except for waiting for her again... she doesn't care...

His words pierced my heart, but I kept my calm...I knew he was in pain too... Manik got up and was about to leave when I got a call from Mr. Bhansali...

[Mr. Bhansali- Nandini is it true what I have heard...]

"Yes, Mr. Bhansali its true...I have resigned from my job...actually kuch personal commitments ki vajah se I had too..."

MANIK'S POINT OF VIEW-

I was about to leave when I heard Nandini speaking to Mr. Bhansali...

Nandini- Yes, Mr. Bhansali its true...I have resigned from my job... actually kuch personal commitments ki vajah se I had too..."

I froze at my place as I was shocked and then looked at her... she was looking at me with a look that clearly showed she was deeply hurt coz of my behaviour...

Nandini- No, Mr. Bhansali, I will be completing your project and then leave... ji I need to go to London once for wrapping up stuff... I am sorry I can't join your organization... Thanks for the offer...have a good day...

She kept her phone and I realized what I had done, I wanted to speak to her and then she got a call again from her boss in London...

Nandini- I am really sorry Mark, I had to do it...ya I am fine...no Mark, its not about my salary or my position...its something personal... I hope you understand... ya I will be flying once we wrap this project here...Ok, ya I have asked Priya to patch me with Germany office for the details... right... ok... thanks a lot...speak to you later...

I stepped forward to speak to her... "Nandini..." She didn't answer me nor looked at me... I held her hand but she twisted it and got herself free... She picked her bag and spoke to Cabir...

Nandini- Cabir, please brief Manik about our discussion... You can go ahead with your plans... I'll finish the work and get back to you...bye...

I tried again to stop her... "Nandini listen to me..." She walked towards the exit of the van and then she stopped on the steps and spoke...

Nandini - Manik, yahi baat batane ke liye lunch banake layi thi tumhare liye... (Tears started to flow from her eyes...)

I could feel the pain in her voice...

Nandini- Manik, tumhi ne kaha tha na we need to walk together forever... (She looked at me with teary eyes... her pain was reflecting on her face)... Aur pehle hi step pe you didn't have faith in me...

Her words were like lightening...She left and I stood there numb...
