Chapter 8: 8th Wonder

No One's POV:

"Do dil mil rahe hai..
Magar chupke, chupke..."

Yes, It's true. Two hearts were getting closer each day. Manik and Nandini's hearts. 2 weeks have passed and both of them couldn't get enough of each other.

They would meet here and there with their unusual encounters , either by accident or purposefully.

Manik was falling hard for Nandini. Everything about her drove him crazy. He wanted to see her everyday, spend time with her and did everything he could to make it possible.

He started parking his car closer to the Business Block instead of his regular place, just so he could see Nandini when she arrived or she left. He visited Dhruv's house a lot and even stayed over , hoping to catch a glimpse of Nandini.

His friends noticed his weird behavior but didn't make out the cause of it. Except Cabir of course.
Only he knew what was going on in Manik's head. In fact , many times Cabir helped Manik in his antics. But he never left an opportunity to tease Manik. Especially about Abhimanyu.

Manik had seen Nandini with Abhimanyu many times. Manik had managed to find out his name but nothing else. Manik had met him once or twice and he didn't like the way Abhimanyu was possessive about Nandini.

Little did Manik know that Abhi was just being a protective brother. He didn't have much clue about what was going on between Manik and Nandini.

Nandini on the other hand liked these confrontations between Abhi and Manik. It brought out another side of the dashing and cool Manik Malhothra - Jealous Manik, an 8th wonder according to Cabir.

Nandini never told Manik about her relation with Abhi, simply because he never asked. Her feelings for Manik were mutual. She'd seen all the little things that Manik did to be with her and couldn't help but want the same.

Navya had some idea about all this , but Nandini was too shy to admit it. Mostly Navya was behind Cabir which was a plus point for Nandini because Cabir would almost always be with Manik.

The two of them didn't have the guts to admit the truth, but knew what the other felt.

Present day:

Manik was hanging around the corridor connecting both the Music and the Business Blocks, The same place where he and Nandini had collided. He hung out there a lot ,in hopes of seeing Nandini, who would pass by during breaks.

It was his break time and he had managed to break free of Cabir as he couldn't bare the teasing sessions. He was scrolling through his phone when he hears someone mention Nandini's name.
It was Abhi.

"...She's so special yaar. Me uskeliye kuch bhi kar saktha hoon. You know na how much I love her. Ab me aur nahi wait kar satha. Me usse sab kuch bathaunga, how I feel...", Abhi said on the phone, with a big smile on his face. He didn't seem to notice Manik , who conveniently hid so he could eavesdrop.

Manik nearly exploded on hearing what Abhi said. He couldn't believe it. He couldn't breathe. "Abhi was going to propose to .. to Nandini.. No!", Manik thought.

He rushed away from there , not knowing what to do or where to go. He was almost running along the hallways when he ran into Cabir.

Cabir knew where Manik had been and was about to start pulling his leg, when he saw Manik's expression. His face was pale.

"Manik .. Kya hua? Everything ok?", Asked Cabir, getting worried.

Manik couldn't barely get the words out," Abhi... Nandini... love...".

"What??! Yeh kya kerahe ho Manik?", Cabir said.

"Abhi Nandini se pyaar kartha hai. Woh usse propose karne ka plan kiya hai", He finally managed to say.

Cabir was stunned. He felt bad for his best friend.But on the other hand, he didn't believe it's true. He'd seen the way Nandini was with Manik , that was love.

"Are you sure? Tumne teek se suna nahi hoga. It's a mistake", Cabir said , as a matter of fact.

"Cabir..", Manik was getting pissed now," I know what I heard ok. Woh Nandini ko propose karna chatha hai".

"Maybe... But aise kaise ho saktha hai yaar! ", Cabir said.

Manik just looked at him .

"Nahi . Yeh sach nahi hai. Aur agar hua bhi tho Nandini accept nahi karegi", Cabir said , sure of himself.

"Yeh thu kaise keh saktha hai? Thu future bhi dekh saktha hai kya!", Manik said, not interested in Cabir's jokes.

"Normally nahi, par iss matter me tho definitely", said Cabir, "Kyun ki...", he stopped realizing what he was going to say.

"Kyun ki?", Manik said, looking at Cabir .

"Kyun ki... Kyun ki... Me pata lagaunga na", Cabir said stammeringly.

"Kya! Tu kya karega!", Manik said.

"Me pata lagaunga na .. Ki yeh sab sach hai ki nahi."

"Kaise?", Manik asked.

"Woh , me karunga. Thu barosa kartha hai na mujh par", Cabir said.

Manik didn't know what was Cabir's plan, but he did trust him. So he nodded.

It was evening now and Nandini was at home. She was super excited with upcoming events. Abhi was in love and he was going to propose to his long time crush - Mukti. Yes, even Nandu couldn't believe it when Abhi had told her a few days back. She thought Mukti was scary but Abhi explained and showed to her the other side of Mukti.

Nandini knew that this might not work out but Abhi was adamant and she clearly saw how much he loved Mukti , so she agreed to help him.He did so much for her, this was the least she could do for her brother.

Abhi had already told her the perfect plan and she was amazed. She even started imagining how it would be if Manik proposed. "Wait! What?", she thought suddenly.

"Manik and proposing me... No ways", she thought but deep down how she wished for it to become true. She knew she felt something for him but didn't know what. She also knew that Manik felt something for her too.

She started blushing and wondered what Manik might be doing now.

Manik, on the other hand was pacing in his room. He was living his worst nightmare. The girl of his dreams was slipping away from him.

Cabir had managed to calm him down but now he was freaking out. What if she said yes? Cabir said she wont. But what if?!

He was close to pulling his hair out."Aaargghhh!!!!"

The next day couldn't come sooner for Manik. Cabir had promised Manik that he would find out the truth and he planned to keep that promise.

Currently the both of them were in the Business Block spying on Abhi. Manik was annoyed.

"Yeh hai thumhara brilliant plan?", Manik said .

"Maine thumhe aane ko force nahi kiya. Tum kudh agaye the. Tumhe sach pata lagana hai ya nahi?", Cabir said.

"Hmm..", Manik replied.

"Tho phir chalo.", Cabir said.

Both of them crept slowly, acting cool, hoping no one notices them.

Cabir stopped abruptly making Manik bump into him.

"Kya hua?!", Manik asked pissed.

"Shhh!", Cabir said and held up a finger and pointed ahead of them.

Manik looked at where Cabir was pointing to and froze. Up ahead a group of people were coming out of a classroom. It was Nandini, Navya and Abhimanyu.

On seeing Nandini, Manik's face broke into a smile, but it disappeared as soon as he saw that she was with Abhi. She was laughing, probably at some joke that Abhi said. Manik didn't like their close proximity.

He wanted to punch Abhi and was going to but Cabir held him back.

"So Nandu," said Abhi , " Don't forget haa. Saturday class ke baad terrace pe ok. I'll be waiting".

"Of course me aaungi. I'm so excited!", Nandini said and hugged Abhi..

Manik was devastated. He felt his heart break. Cabir looked at Manik and for the first time he was speechless too. He tried to tell Manik that it maybe for something else. But Manik didn't listen. He just left.

Manik headed for his car, he needed to get away, far away.

Nandini was walking towards the gate. She was smiling to herself when she heard a noise. She turned around to see Manik rushing to his car.

Her smile grew wider. She was about to wave and call him but was cut in as he zoomed ahead in his car almost hitting her. He didn't see who was there. He just sped off.

Nandini had backed off at the last moment or else she would've been hit by the car.She was astonished by his behavior. She just stared at where he left, feeling distraught and even scared now.

She'd never seen Manik like this, so angry and rash. It frightened her.

She stood there for a while before she walked away too.
