MANAN'S POV

Sapna Saxena... Laddoo's childhood behbie(baby), and my ex-spot... Sat in front of us trying to look in any direction but at the two of us... Our parents were reminiscing the past with the three of us were listening while trying to understand what had just passed... I couldn't wrap my head around it... I just couldn't...

Life sucks... I mean it has its moments but then situations like these make you re-think everything that you have ever known... Seriously... I mean like seriously... How can a girl not remember that we were her best friends?! OK... So maybe Laddoo and I failed to recognize her as well... But it's not our fault! People's faces change... DRASTICALLY! And maybe the girl didn't remember our faces... But then I looked our HOPE (the mansion) and saw that countless pics of me, laddoo, and mom... Some in our childhood, and some more recent and wondered "So she didn't recognize us... But did she not even look at one pic around the house?! I mean there are so many pics of mom who hasn't really changed at all How is it even possible?!"

N: Mannu... Massi is asking you something...!

Mom's voice snapped me back into reality

A: "Massi... Don't take it personally... I mean agar Mannu ko kisi aur ki care hoti, to yeh nahi hota" Said my moohphat (outspoken) sister giving a knowing look to Sapna

Navya: Kounsi situation ki baat ho rahi hai... Matarani...! What did the two of you do know?!

Massi - like EVERYONE - knows about how maasti-filled me and laadoo are... We are the top pranksters of our CITY! And we have a strong belief that the song BESHARAM was made especially for us... I mean who else can you think of when a line like: Thedhe medho se karak, Seedhe, saadho se naaram comes up!

Harshad: Navya... Relax... But then relax karne ki baat hi nahi aati as these two are bigger pranksters *cough* bullies *cough* than the ones we had in our time?! Kyu Nandu?!

I was fuming while Laddoo was stifling a laugh at mausa ji's comment complete with a FAKE COUGH!!! How unbelievable!

N: Harshad Saxena... Kya tum mere sweet and innocent Manira (MANan and akIRA) ko accuse kar rahe ho?

Asked my mom with a fake accusing tone to her

Akira - who couldn't hold it any longer - burst out the laughter she was trying to stifle for the past little while now, and was soon joined by the rest of us as my Shonu Laddoo's laugh -like her smile - was so affectionate and inviting... Don't EVER tell her I said that though... JAAN LEH LE GI MERI!

Anyways, after a while, we all had dinner with a little bit more gupshup and maasti - with me Laddoo and Sapna trying very hard not to look at each other, when Harshad mausa ji usa ji announced that it was really late and high time for their family to return to the hotel they were staying at

N: Seriously.. Tum logo ka jaana important hai kya... I mean ek raat ke liye stay bhi nahi kar sakte?!

H: You know na Nandu that we'd love to lekin, humara koi bhi stuff yaha nahi hai... There is no way we'd be able to adjust!

A: Oye hello! Mausa ji... I think that aap kuch forget kar rahe ho

Akira piped up as soon as Harshad mausa ji along with maasi and Sapna turned towards the door

Mausa ji checked his pockets, scanned around the house and gave Laddoo a questioning look as I'm pretty sure he was sure that nothing was forgotten.

A: Mausa ji... Mei koi physical object ke baare mein nahi baat kar rahi hu!

She said this like it explained EVERYTHING... Including what the secret of life was!

H: Mein... I didn't understand

Said mausa ji... Literally voicing what everyone was thinking

A: I mean... That aap ye forget kar rahe hai that I am AKIRA MALHOTRA... And being the divine creation I am, mere paas aapki problem ka solution hai!

Navya: Kiss problem ka solution hai Akira?!

A: Aapki is amazing deal ko skip karne ki problem!

I could swear that Sapna was mentally shooting daggers at my baby sister (once again.. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE TELL HER I SAID THAT!) judging by the expression that she was giving her. I looked back at my Laddoo and saw that she was mentally cursing at herself as well becoz I think she may have just let something very important slip out... I was trying to recall any convo we had had related to any of this when Laddoo finally said:

"I mean uh... You denied to stay with us as aapke kapre along with other things nahi hai... Right? Toh iska solution yeh hai that Mausa ji, you can wear Mannu's clothes as app dono about ek hi size ho, Massi, you can share with mom, and Sapna can take anything she likes from my wardrobe! Rahi baat rooms ki, then we have tons of extra guest rooms, and maasi, mausa ji, you can take any one of them while Sapna... My BEHBHIE!!!! Will be staying with me in MY ROOM... No arguments, ab andar chalo!"

She gave a satisfying smile but after seeing the look that had passed between Sapna and my sister - the two girls who were ignoring each other ALL NIGHT... Or were they... When I about it, I realized that Laddoo and Sapna were passing secret looks to each other the entire time... As if we were five again and they were a part of this All-Girls Club that I was not invited in... What had passed between them?

Maasi snapped me out of my thoughts saying that Akira was a little devil-genius (making the already intolerable brat more filled with pride and ego) and asking with her eyes to mausa ji if they could stay... He was about to say something when the adorable brat yelled that she had said it, and there were to be no arguments... Everything would go as she said

The girl sometimes acted like she was seven but despite myself, I found myself smiling at my sister, looked around and saw that the others were smiling too... Including Sapna, whose mysterious connection with my little sis I didn't know about...

Telling - More-so ordering everyone back into the family room, Laddoo moon-walked happily back there herself and we engaged in a bit more gupshup, filled with our parents telling their college stories, and all of us pulling each others leg... But this time, I was a little more conscious of the knowing glances that Sapna and Laddoo kept sharing, desperate to get some alone-time with my baby sis to make her spill a confession.

After some time, we all changed (and yes, we shared our clothes according to Laddoo's wish), and bade each other gudnite... I was walking to my room - which was connected to my twins - when I heard Sapna saying to Laddoo - B!#CH!!! WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING!!!??? YOU ALMOST TOLD MOM AND DAD!!!

A: *mean girls style* Boo you, wh**e!

I walked in to see Akira laughing hysterically and rolling around the floor, while a frustrated Sapna was trying to hit my sis... Usually, seeing something like this, my big-bro instincts act up and I rush to my sisters aid, but this time, she deserved it, so I sat back and watch Sapna's desperate attempts to get my sis... All the while, none of the girls noticed me... I was watching them doing a bit of a Tom and Jerry act, when Sapna noticed me and straightened up

A: What happe-

She stopped as soon as she saw me... Maybe becoz she realized what happened, or becoz she found out what was going to happen next...

Akira's POV

A: What happe-

M: Don't you dare what happened ME, Ms Malhotra!

Shit...! I'm so screwed!!! Mannu is going to kill me...! But I can't even blame him na... I mean jootho ke to laiyak hu mein! I haven't ever hid anything from Mannu before this!!!! He's gonna be hurt but, then he's gonna be mad, and then mere funeral (becoz he's obvio gonna kill me in a fit of rage) ke baad he's going to understand why I did what I did, and regret it for the rest of his life!!!!!!! Saans le Aki!!! Just BREATH!!! Aiyaapaa!!!! Please help me!!!! U know na, that what I did was (to some extent) justified... HELP!!!!!!

I took a glance at Sapna and saw her staring at Mannu... Poor girl was probably shocked and scared that her secret is about to come out... But we would've had to tell him someday... RIGHT?! OK!!! Take a deep breath, aur sab kuch ek saans mein bol de... I'll take care of the aftermath!!!!

A: So, I found out that Sapna was SAPNA a couple of days before the spot thing a-

M: WHAT?!?!?! Aur you didn't tell me... Was it not important enough for your ONLY BROTHER TO KNOW, MS MALHOTRA?!

S: Sir- I mean Manan, please... Just hear her out once...Agar explanation justified na hua to... then you decide what happens to us!

Sapna pleaded.

Mannu looked at her, and it seemed that he was ACTUALLY thinking about listening to out explanation... Mera impulsive-a$$ bhai, jisko jab gussa aata hai, he doesn't listen to anyone, was thinking about hearing our side of the story, just becoz SAPNA ASKED HIM TO!?!?!?! Hai main marjawa!!! Someone has a thing for someone!!!!!!!

Mannu glared at me like he knew what I was thinking about, and I started thinking about mera kya haal hoga after this.

M: Kaha kho gaye... Actually, I know, you must be thinking of a justified explanation for what you did na?!

Mannu's voice snapped me out of my train of thoughts

A: Huh?! Yeah... I mean... What was the question again?!

Mannu just stared at me while Sapna literally facepalmed.

A: KYA?!?!?! No like, I have no I have no idea as to what the hell is happening, so like plz!

M: I said ki I'll hear out what you have to say... Vaise, tum kaha thi?

A: Mein to yehi thi, par TUM KON HO?!

I said in a desperate attempt to divert the topic from where it was heading.

M: What the hell is that supposed to mean?!

I think he bought it! Ab, all I have to do is keep the conversation pointed in this direction! So I continued, trying to make him think about anything other than THAT...

A: I mean the MANAN MALHOTRA jo doesn't hear out anyone, INCLUDING ME!!!! Decided to hear out our side of the story, just becoz SAPNA told him to?! Chal kya raha hai?

Mannu looked shocked, but then to hide it, he tried to look everywhere but at me and Sapna, while Sapna was looking at the ground. I smirked, I had countered him HARD, and now the ball was in my court! But then Mannu had to speak up.

M: Whatever, tum jo bhi accusations lagao, the point is that we are here right now to find out why the hell you hid whatever this is from me! Now will you please start before I change my mind?!

Sapna looked at me, and realizing that I had no more tricks up my sleeve, I nodded. She got up, and closed the door so that no one could hear our conversation. I looked at her face again, and she was afraid as to what Mannu would say... Although I knew that he wouldn't be all WHY, WHAT like those people in those Indian soap-operas mom watches, I also knew that he'd be hurt that I hid this... I once again started the story

Akira's Pov Ended

The next part is a flashback in a 3rd persons view

3 Months Ago:

Sapna had been in their college for about a month now, and was everyone boys fascination... The girl was pretty, with a bit of hot and sexy to her, but still adorable... Something that when put together was a dangerous combination. But to top it all off, she had an aura of mystery and some unknown pain to her. She didn't talk to anyone much, but she could be bluntly mean to anyone when she needed to be.

One day, Sapna was walking to her class, when she bumped into Akira.

A: Watch it...! Ankhe hai ya button?!

She said all this without even looking at the person she was talking to.

S: S-S-Sorry... I don't... I didn't... It was an accident

Sapna was terrified. She knew the history of the Malhotra twins, and she knew that if they got mad, they wouldn't spare her.

Akira looked at Sapna's terrified face, and immediately softened. This girl's face reminded her of her childhood bestie, who was know in London, England.

A: Ha... Whatever. This is the first time you've goofed up, so I'm letting you go. Just don't let this happen next time, or else I won't spare you k?

Akira had melted, but she couldn't show it... after all, she had a rep to protect!

After that, they saw each other in the halls, and they would remember their short little encounter, then look down embarrassed, and would move along. Both the girls didn't talk to each other, but would still wonder why they thought they knew one another from before.

After a few weeks of successfully ignoring each other, destiny decided to smack them... HARD.

Manan was out for a couple of days as he had a sports competition to attend which was out of town... He had wanted to take his ladoo with him, but couldn't as Nandini asked that at least one of them attend college.

While he was gone, their teacher Prof. Smythe assigned the class a group project... One where he would choose the partners. Usually, it didn't matter whether the teacher was choosing, or the students were choosing as everyone knew that you put ManIra together, or face the consequences later. This time around though, Manan wasn't there, and as destiny had it, Sapna and Akira were paired in the group.

It was an awkward situation for both of them, because Sapna was paired with the biggest bully in school, while Akira was paired with a Newbie whom she connected with her best friend.

Sapna had thought that because Akira was known for her rough attitude in college, she would end up doing all the work and still giving half the credit to Akira... Boy was she wrong! Akira was serious about her work and studies, even if she didn't show it. It was almost a secret between the faculty and the twins that those two were the toppers of the college - which is why ManIra only worked with one another.

Coming back to Sapna and Akira, they would meet up in libraries and coffee shops to discuss and work on their project, but wouldn't really talk beyond that. The day before the project was due, Akira told Sapna to come over to her house to finish off the project and do some editing and final touches. Sapna was hesitant at first, but eventually agreed as by now, she had figured out that if Akira wanted to pull something on her, she would do it after handing in the project.

After college, Akira drove to her house, messaging Sapna the address, and telling her to come on her own. Akira would've offered the girl a lift - after all, their destination was the same, but then decided against it... She was AKIRA MALHOTRA!

Sapna was ushered in by a guard who told her that she was expected. She was awestruck by the beauty of the place. It was chic, yet vintage, traditional, yet modern. The house was open-concept, with pictures of a happy family all around the house, she turned to go look at one more closely, when Akira approached her to go up to her room to work on the project.

Akira led Sapna to her room, making sure that it was all neat and tidy... Her room was pretty clean anyways, but sometimes there were a couple of things lying here and there that she had gotten to lazy to put in their respective places.

Sapna thought that the main floor was a sight to see, but then she entered the girls room. It was fit for a princess - complete with every luxury a girl could want: walk-in closet that had an electronic, rotating hanger system, ensuite decked with a beautiful tub and in-shower spa, make-up vanity decked with every make-up product and hair accessory a girl could dream of, a door of her mega-closet was open revealing necklaces, earrings, watches, bracelets, and rings from fake to solid diamond. In the centre of the room was an oval-shaped canopy bed with a ton of pillows on it, with a dressing table filled with books, and something that seemed like a diary. But that wasn't what had caught her attention. In a corner of the room that no one would really pay attention to, there was a cork board filled with pictures of a cute family of three, pictures of a little boy, and a little girl, but what really caught her eye was a picture of two little girls and a little boy, the three of them no more than five years old in Halloween costumes. The boy was in a vampire costume, one of the girls in a fairy costume, and the other one in a Cinderella costume.

Sapna turned around to face Akira, and literally pounced on her, hugging her and screaming "AKIII!!!!!!!! Tuuu!!!!! OH MY GODS?!?! MEINE... HOW DID I NOT RECOGNIZE YOU?!?!?!"

Akira was confused and hella pissed off... Just as no one called her Laddoo other than her amazing mom and beloved Mannu, no one called her Aki other than her Maasi. Mausa, and Behbie... errr bestfriend.

A: Excuse me? Who exactly do you think you are to just pounce on me like that?

Akira asked with a complete Manik Malhotra attitude.

S: Ayhaye meri jaan... I admit that it's been 11 years, but you tho forgot me na?!

A: What the hell are you talking about?!

S: Hey matarani...!!! Who will explain to this buddhu that -

Sapna couldn't finish her sentence as it was now Akira's turn to pounce on Sapna who had discovered that this Sapna Saxena was her behbhie as soon as she said the ever-famous phrase "Hey matarani"!

A: OMG!!! BEHBHIE!!!! What... Tum yaha... How... And why didn't you inform us that you were going to study in US only... We would've gotten you from the airport, and you would've stayed with us rather than wherever you're staying right now!

Akira said as soon as she let go of the bear hug she and Sapna had just been in.

S: Acchaa meri maa... Saans le... Just breath...! Actually voh... I couldn't exactly contact you guys...

A: KYU?!?!

Akira asked in full Kajol K3G mode.

S: Actually meri jaan, it's a long-a$$ story... Sunne gi?

A: Don't worry jannemann, for you, I have all the time in the world!
