It's disconcerting how protective I've been feeling about Manik lately. He's like this scared child who knows pain all too well, and is terrified of losing that last ray of hope, yet is afraid of being betrayed again. So he shuts it out and yet wants to cling on to it desperately. It's just so sad. This boy has been through some serious emotional abuse.
