Lately Manik found himself staring off into space. That was never his thing. All this pondering and pining. If something annoyed him he made sure to push it away from his life.
He couldn't push her away from his life. She walked out and yet he could not imagine a time in his life when she wasn't around. Which was absurd because that was a few short months ago. How could his life have changed so drastically? So wholly? These questions wouldn't seem to leave him.
A soft giggle broke his trance.
He placed his guitar down and looked around trying to spot the familiar sound. His gaze finally settled on her familiar form.
His breathe hitched in his throat.
She was glowing. Her eyes were wide and shining, her lips in a pouting smile. She was saying something to someone. He didn't know what she was saying or whom she was saying it to. All he saw was her.
Her hair swished back and forth as she talked animatedly and her hands gestured trying to prove a point. The cool winter air had tinted her cheeks pink. Cheeks he had caressed so often.
He got up involuntarily and his guitar almost fell off, that broke the trance. The sounds rushed back and his sight cleared up.
"No Abhi that's such a stupid thing, pick up lines do not work."
"They don't? What rubbish. Of course they do."
"Go on say something to impress me then."
"Are you tired?"
"Um, what?"
"Because you've been runnin' through my head all day."
Her giggle burst out again and his gaze finally shifted to her companion. The same companion who held her hands and was looking into her eyes.
Rage pulsed through him and his blood turned green. All he could see now was the casual way in which they stood, leaning into each other, laughing, giggling.
But anger as they say, lasts only 10 seconds if not acted up on. Something over came his anger.Something that made the space between his ribs ache. Something that left him sick in his stomach.
Sadness.
Gut wrenching sadness.
He was seeing her smiling but all his mind conjured up was her tears. Endless tears. He wanted to remember her smiling at him but his mind only fixated on her tears, on her anger, on her disgust.
Surely it was fates working because she stopped talking and started looking around, as if she knew she was being watched.
Their eyes connected and she almost stepped back looking alarmed.. Perhaps he was not such a great actor after all. Perhaps the sadness shown in his eyes.
"Ek minute Abhi."
She was coming towards him. He couldn't let her see him this way. He couldn't let her see how broken he was. He was fine being broken as along as no one knew. And she would know. It would take her just one look and he'd be undone.
He fled. He turned the other side.
He walked away.
A/n - It's literally something that I wrote in five minutes. Just a scene that came to me. I love my MaNan and their pain is always palpable.
