OS~ Echoes
Mission Nandu.
Mission. Nandu.
Mission... Nandu.
I will never hurt you again.
His words echoed through her empty mind, as she raced up to her room and locked the door from the inside. Clutching her head, she pulled at her hair, as his words continued to replay in her head. She sank to the floor as silent tears smudged the makeup she was wearing from her performance.
"I will never hurt you again"
She cursed herself for trusting the monster. She cursed herself for falling prey to his evil, ruthless and utterly cheap schemes. She cursed herself, cursed herself for falling for him. How stupid she had been, to ever believe, that Manik would ever be interested in such a commoner.
Her cries got louder by the second as she sniffled and hiccupped with every tear. She clutched her pants and bit her tongue hard in order to not yelp loudly in the middle of the night. She wanted no more dramas in her life, she couldn't let her family see her like this, as she rushed up to make sure the door was locked.
As she started to walk back to her bed, she tripped over the leg of the chair that she had not seen. Yelping even more now, she tried to get herself up, but to no avail. She was broken. And she had no strength left in her to get up. So she just sat there, hugging her knees and wiping her tears as they flowed.
"I know I can trust you"
"When I am with you, I change"
His words again churned through the mind, as she mouthed "Liar." She gritted her teeth and dug her blunt nails in to her hands. She needed to shout, she needed to vent her building emotions. She needed to release and feel light, yet her voice was stuck in her mouth.
She wanted to shout out in to the void. She wanted to close her eyes to her reality and just fast forward time. Ironic wasn't it? Just yesterday she was hoping that time would forever stand still, she wished that time was her best friend who would do her favours.
And today?
She held her breathe and rocked back and forth. She continued to hum, or dig her nails in to her hands, or just clutch her pant bottoms tightly. Though nothing worked, her emotions were causing havoc in her body, as destructive as the stormy night that is currently was. As she heard the thunder in the skies, she realised as her own sentiments were as destructive as the lightening. When they fall, they fall hard.
Nandini Moorthy had always been a composed teenager. She had to be! After her parents' premature demise and her brother's trauma, she had to step up. She had to take charge of what little family she had left. She had to steel herself in order to become the pillar of strength for her brother.
Little did anyone know that Nandini Moorthy was not always a happy person. She too had her own share of battles that only the four walls knew about. After all every individual she had gotten close to, every individual who had said, "I will be there for you." Had eventually left her to fend for herself.
She slapped herself for being an idiotic human with emotions, as she got up rather aggressively and let her tears flow without a care in the world. She stood in front of her Aiyappa and prayed, "I wish I had never trusted him. I wish I hadn't been such a fool. I wish I didn't have emotions Aiyappa, I wish to be turned in to a stone. Hard. Cold. And forever solid. An object that never breaks."
She realised how foolish she sounded as she smiled sadly. Her gaze fell on the container with a cloth spread over it. She carried the container to the window of her room and gazed at it for one last time, as she let the container drop from her window panels.
"You were wrong Mumma. You were wrong! Fireflies only light up when they want to, not because they is true love around you. I wish there had been an easier way to learn this lesson. Was I not good enough? Am I this naive?" Nandini looked up to the sealing of her room and finally let her tired eyes close.

He walked underneath the window of her room and show the sharp shards of the container that was in her room last time he was there. He remembered about how much she adored her fireflies and seeing the broken jar just drove pangs through his heart. "I am sorry Nandini. I promised to never hurt you again and yet here we are."
He gathered the broken shards of the jar and carried it with him. Pretty irreparable he thought to himself.
