This is the couplet which my literature teacher said in our class. It's quite simple Urdu but for those who can't understand, the gist of it is that it's the way you say something which changes the feel of it else nothing in this word is unsaid. That's the basic jhol with any and all literature. All the topics in all kinds of media and literature have been explored before and are being explored. It's the way one explores them which leaves a mark.
On that very literature note, I'll come on topic. I doubt that Indian telly is hardly the place to go looking for originality. Yes, nothing about Manik is original. He's a basic amalgamation of so many angsty/misunderstood/dominating male protagonists. Again, nothing is original in MaNan as well. They are typically the same hatred-to-love couple. But similarly, I also find nothing original in Dhruv or DhruNi. I see them and I get flashes of so many kdramas that I've watched which have these kind of second heroes who share such wonderful moments with the girl but never end up with her. It took me many dramas and heartbreaks to realize that despite the second guy being the better choice for the girl, in context she is not the one who completes her. You can't control your heart. And the heart wants what the heart wants.
I am not being offensive but just putting a point. It's all about treatment. Whereas I hated the hordes of ASRs and MSKs and the Randhirs, I don't hate Manik. And frankly, it's wrong to compare those kind of heroes to Manik. They belong to different leagues. Similarly, it's utterly WRONG to compare Manik to Tsukasa ( or Jun Pyo..whatever his korean name was..) In HYD, the basic turning point for Tsukasa was the kick which Tsukushi landed on him. Punch in KY2. That kick reminded him of his sister, the only person from home who loved and adored him, didn't let his moods control her and basically did as she pleased. But in KY2, the whole plot fundamentally deviates from HYD. KY2 at this moment is not inspired from HYD. It was till the punch, uske baad all they've written is for this show only. The originality of the writing isn't the issue here, original dhundne niklen ge tou we can hardly count original shows on our fingertips. It's the treatment which counts.
I am not demeaning your bias, no. Everyone has the right to watch the show for their own reasons and interests. But this accusation of Manik or MaNan being unoriginal and Dhruv/DhruNi being the most original thing bothers me. DhruNi and Dhruv are no more original than Manik or MaNan. I haven't seen 100 Days but didn't the CVs wrap the track with one incident and didn't drag it for 100 Days? I doubt the movie had a scene where the guy went, "Sorry girl, you be having troubles in your real life and I can feel that. So imma set you free." So yeah, inspiration for that track - unoriginal. Ending of it - very original. Every show nowadays is an inspiration of something or the other, every character is an inspiration and amalgamation of two-three different characters. It's the treatment which makes different.
Manik is the not the Indian Tsukasa/Jun Pyo. He's just Manik. If he's Tsukasa, then Dhruv is to be Rui and Rui was drastically different than Dhruv. So was Tsukasa and Rui's relationship. You can't just take one character from HYD and start comparing it with its supposed counterpart from KY2. All characters and relationships should be given the same treatment. Nothing other than the initial set up of the episodes is similar between HYD and KY2.
As for Ekta Kapoor concept, I strikingly remember that even Tsukasa and Tsukushi were locked in a lift for a night. That was a HUGE moment for them as a couple and played an extremely important role in the future of theirs. And HYD's story is much older than Ekta Kapoor's show. So, yeah..once again, not original but the treatment which matters.
These things which one terms unoriginal are actually "tropes". Tropes aren't cliches but they are the basic go-to plot devices in any form of media/literature. So many shows, despite being vastly different than in genre, share many tropes.
Rude Guy with Heart of Gold - Trope.
Sweet Girl with Nasty Temper - Trope.
Supportive Guy BestFriend - Trope.
Heck, even this:
Tall Guy, Short Girl - Trope.
Any show, when stripped down, basically come down to tropes. It's how one uses these tropes which determines the quality of anything.
I apologize if I went way off tangent here...there were so many thoughts in my mind and gathering them wasn't easy.
