KEEPING UP WITH SASHA: Iqbal Khan (right) with Chetan Hansraj on the Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai set on July 20 — the day before he fell ill
Want to become a TV actor? Prerequisites are the ability to shoot for days on end, without break, and a cast iron stomach, as actor Iqbal Khan found out.

Iqbal (Angad of Sony's Kaisa ye Pyar Hai) spent the whole of yesterday in Nanavati Hospital, Vile Parle, along with girlfriend Sneha and cousin Mustafa.

Shot for 48 hours

Sources say Khan fainted because he shot continuously for 48 hours. He had earlier taken ten days off from his shooting commitments to visit his parents in Kashmir after a gap of two-and-a-half years. The trip tired him out, yet as soon as he returned, he had to finish filming a large portion of his scenes.

A few days ago, Shama Sikander (Pooja of Ye Meri Life Hai) too was hospitalised (twice in two days) because of physical exhaustion.

Chicken, or stress?

Iqbal says it was food poisoning that led him to Nanavati. He says he ordered chicken at a shoot on Tuesday. "I told the spot boy to get me some chicken. I don't know where he bought it from, but that triggered it off. Physical fatigue was not the reason for my hospitalisation. I am a very fit man — I have even shot for 90 hours at a stretch, and nothing happened."

Weak and dehydrated

"When I woke up on Wednesday morning, I had terrible diarrhoea. The motions just wouldn't stop. Soon, I started passing a lot of water," adds Iqbal.

The actor says he felt so dehydrated and weak that he called his girlfriend Sneha and cousin Mustafa to accompany him to Nanavati.

"Doctors advised me to get admitted, but I didn't. I love Kaisa ye Pyar Hai, it's my show," says the actor, who underwent a few tests and was put on a drip. "Thank God Sneha was around, nahin to meri vaat lag jati," he exclaims.

Khan resumed shooting yesterday, without taking even a day off for rest.

"I had no money. I did jobs"

He has done films, ad films and music videos. But wasn't noticed until he boarded the Ekta Kapoor bandwagon. Sapana Patil spoke to Mohammad Iqbal Khan aka Angad of Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai.

How was life before 'Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai'?
I had no money and I did not want to take it from my parents. I did jobs.

Mohammad Khan: The boy and his bike!
How did the first film Funtoosh happen?
I was working in a production house that was making AgniPankh. They offered me a role in Funtoosh. Then I acted in Bullet and did ads for ICICI and Fun Republic.

You weren't noticed in your earlier ventures. What are your expectations from Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai?
I have no expectations. My duty is to work. I am doing my job.

Is acting your passion or just a profession?
It is my profession. I make my living out of it. It is also my passion.

If you weren't an actor, what would you be?
I can't think of anything other than acting. I am not the one who can do studies (laughs).

What is your academic background?
I am a college dropout. I left college halfway to go to Switzerland to do a music video called Kuch Dil Ne Kaha with Raima Sen.

Do you like to be seen on TV or on the big screen?
I like to act. The medium used to reach people, does not matter. Television is big these days. Look at the Kahaani people. They get mobbed wherever they go.

Has your fan following increased?
I don't know. I have been shooting 25 hours out of 24 hours. I have absolutely no time.

"I am not getting married in the next three years"

He is perhaps the most eligible bachelor in town. He is a powerhouse performer and even Ekta Kapoor admits that he is the most promising star in her armoury. Meet Mohammad Iqbal Khan, aka Angad in Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai, an actor who has made quiet an impression with his first foray into tellydom. Chikita Kukreja caught up with the busy actor in Kamalistan studios in suburban Mumbai, where he was shooting for the serial.

I, me, myself
I am very normal, or rather I should say I am very boring, I don't even remember when I last went clubbing. I am nothing like Angad, nothing at all.

My work and me
Nowadays, I shoot for 13 hours, which earlier use to be 24 hours a day. I am leaving for Dubai with the other main leads of the serial on 2 October for a few days as things are getting big and exciting in the serial.

Balaji and me
I am loyal to whatever I do and therefore I ought to be loyal to Balaji at the first place, Ekta was the only person who gave me a chance to show my capabilities, and I did it very well!(Laughs). And as it is I don't have any time to do anything else. Later on I don't know what is going to happen.

My stint with movies
You appeared in two movies, any plans of doing more?
Funtush was ok but Bullet turned out to be a disaster. After Murder became a hit, quite a number of similar kind of films were offered to me, but I didn't want to do any thing of that sort.I don't see any difference between films and television, there is a huge fan following in films and the same is the case with television.

My pals on the show
Amit (Pritvi) is like a brother, I happen to finish most of his grub and he ends up with an empty stomach. With the rest, I am friendly, Sujata (his mother) is nice, and yes there are some new characters coming up, Rohit and Ali Hasan, even they are sweet. Of course, you can't be best friends with everyone!

My love
I am going steady with a girl, and am quite serious too. But at present I cannot think of getting married for the next three years, as my profession and life demand that.

My parents
They are very proud of me, and extremely happy too. They feel on top of the world when they hear people whispering,"Dekho dekho, Angad key mummy papa Hain." I would love to get them here, but they should agree to that. They have always stayed in Kashmir, in a cold place and they won't be able to stay here.

Mumbai blues
My hair has started greying and perhaps this is proof that I have really struggled a lot after coming to Mumbai.

Movies and music
There was a time when I used to watch each and every movie, and now I don't even know about the new releases. And about music, I do possess an ipod and I keep asking my cousin to download some songs for me.

My message to my fans
I love you all and thanks for all the support you've given me. It's been just seven months and the serial is doing amazingly great, thanks to you all!

The big fight: Iqbal Khan vs Aseem Merchant
By Vickey Lalwani 2005 Bollyvista.com

Aseem Merchant and Iqbal Khan
Actor Iqbal Khan is extremely annoyed that Aseem Merchant is hounding the publicity campaigns on their recently released flick, 'Bullet- Ek Dhamaka'. Says Khan, "This is not fair. I am the hero. Merchant plays Don Raja. How can he get covered in every section of the media?"

On the other hand, Merchant expresses shock that he is being blamed by Iqbal. It's a case of ego war. Let's see who calls it truce.
