Chapter 13

At college all everyone was talking about was Valentine's Day, who's going with whom and who's not going with whom.

Maithali and Kasturi are sitting in the canteen.

K: I can't believe it, I thought Arman or Raj or Deepak would ask you out but they have already asked other girls? How comes?

M: I don't know!!! (Maithali was more worried about having to end up doing Adi's homework for a month if she can't get a date)Adi's homework for a month oh god (she mumbles to herself)

K: kya?

M: look look Jay is coming towards us, Hi Jay

J: hi mets whats up?

M: umm Jay have you got a date for Valentines?

J: erm Maithali I would've took you but erm actually

M: its ok forget it

Jay leaves as Maithali looks on.

M: what's wrong with me? How comes nobody has asked me yet?

K: nothing is wrong with you… lekin it's really strange you usually get lots of boys asking you out …

M: desperate times calls for desperate measures …

K: no Maithali you can't …

K: look forget it I will talk to Adi and tell him to forget the bid it is not worth it

Maithali and Kasturi walk out of the canteen

Batuk walks off leaving a gob smacked Maithali behind

M: I got rejected by Batuk I can't believe it

Maithali turns around angrily to face Kasturi, but to her unpleasant surprise Adi stood in front her, to close for comfort.

A: hey Maithali how is the date searching going (he interrogates with a mischievous grin)

Maithali without saying anything brushes past him and walks away with Kasturi

A: Maithali you better hurry up you only have today!!! (He shouts behind her)

Adi's friend: Adi your to good man I can believe nobody asked Mets out just because you told them not too

Flashback

A: right everyone listen up as you all know Valentine's coming up now you can ask out whoever you want I don't care BUT nobody and I mean NOBODY can ask Maithali Agarwal out

Jay: why?

A: because I said so and IF any of you asks her out then you will be sorry UNDERSTAND now make sure every guy at college gets this message

Maithali arrives home feeling depressed she sits in her front garden swing, gently swinging back and froth. At the same time Sujal arrives home in his car he notices Maithali sitting in her garden through his rear mirror and decides to go and see why she is looking upset.

S: hi Maithali

M: hey

S: may I sit down

M: mm

S: what's the matter? Did something happen at college?

M: nahi

S: tick ha if you don't want to talk … then I guess I will leave you to it…

M: no please sit…

There is silence in the air no sound except the sound of the air blowing, both sit staring at empty space

M: Sujal what do you think of me?

S: what do you mean?

M: as in do you think am boring, ugly and you know stuff like that

S: ok… Maithali I think you're the most sweetest person I have ever might, your funny, smart and traditional just the way you should be

M: really

There is an awkward silence between the two.

S: mm why are you asking? Go on am your friend you can tell me…

Maithali explains the whole story to Sujal

S: I see… there is something fishy behind this

S: well why wouldn't anybody ask you out there must be a reason I mean come on Batuk? Rejecting you that's not right… Adi must have done something
