Sasha's now a big screen villain

Chetan Hansraj makes his Bollywood debut as a villain in Anthony Kaun Hai

Kunal M Shah

Chetan Hansraj aka Sasha of Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki will now be taking his small screen villainous image to the big screen too — he is playing a negative character in Anthony Kaun Hai.

This film marks Chetan's Bollywood debut. When asked why has he been tight-lipped about the role, he says, "In the past, things have not turned out the way I imagined them to. So this time I decided to be reticent about my role in this film."

Does this character draw from Sasha, a role which made him a household name? "Although the role is not very big in terms of screen presence, I have some great scenes and am an integral part of the film. In fact, I even feature in a song," he says.

After his past bad experiences in films, is he happy at the way his role has shaped up? "I am very happy with the character. I had done a music video with Raj Kaushal eight years ago when I had just started off and it was Raj who offered me this role. The other day Arshad called me to tell me how much he loved my character in the film. It was overwhelming to be complimented by Arshad," he says.

How has the transition to the big screen been? "Shooting for a film and being shown on a 35 mm screen is definitely bigger and better in terms of production value and costumes. I have worked very hard for two years in the television world. Now, I have cut down my work on television. Obviously if I am busy with my television commitments, where will I get the time for films?" he says.

Does that mean we will not see him in television serials? "I am re-entering Kahani Ghar Ghai Ki. I am doing it to earn my bread and butter. I have just become a father and obviously need the money, as there are more responsibilities," says Chetan.

The actor feels he's done a lot of television and can't get overexposed on that medium. If I have to have a long-lasting career, I need to be selective. I am getting offers which I can accept but I need to take this risk and see what lies in store for me. God forbid, if I do not make it in films, I can always go back to television. I have also done my fashion designing from NIFT and am a CD animator too. I am well-equipped and don't have to worry about my future. But, having said that, I have my fingers crossed for Anthony Kaun Hai and hope it does well."

Sinister Sasha returns

Mention Sasha and you know he's the one who made life hell for television's demigoddess, Parvati bhabhi in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii.

"It's anytime great to be back with Kahaanii...., it's like homecoming for me".

After being the conspirator of Shruti's kidnapping, Sasha was shown to have deported to Singapore for good, and was nowhere to be seen then.

However, he's now back to reinstate the same state of terror in the minds of the audience. Sasha aka Chetan Hansraj makes a come back in Kahaani....on 1st Aug.

He will be shown returning from Singapore with the purpose of getting his brother Machan (played by Sachin) out of jail; the one who was imprisoned for murdering Aryan's sister.

"It's anytime great to be back with Kahaanii...., it's like homecoming for me", says the elated Chetan. He continues, "My entry coincides with Pallavi's plan to overthrow the entire Agrawal family. As usual I am back to play dirty games to trouble Parvati."

On inquiring whether he will donning a new avtaar this time, he says, "No, but my attitide, for sure will be more devilish and mean."

Recently, Kahaani also roped in Rajsingh Arora as Ashutosh Mehra, and now with Chetan back on the show, lets hope the serial regains its lost glory.

Sasha's back!

The character you hate is back in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, but is he back with vengence? That you will know as time goes by, for now know about things not often talked about, only on indya.com.

They are class actors but they make you hate them. Their moves, their talks, everything about the characters they play just make you detest them… Well, these are people because of whom heroes are made… They are the cause for the twists in the story, here indya.com asks one such stars about things that he hate…

Chetan Hansraj, popularly known as Sasha in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii leaves you hateful, and that is because of the act he puts in front of the camera. Chetan was under wraps for a long time, but not for long… After his cameo in Antony Kaun Hai and spending a great deal of time as a new daddy for son - Ethen, Chetan is back as Sasha!

In real life he is just another one of us - He has his own share of likes and dislikes… His likes are always spoken about, so indya.com does it differently this time, we ask Chetan all the things he hates! So here you go, know what the character you hate, hates!

He has the best muscles on STAR Plus, so let's find out about the food he hates - Bland food... I like spicy food and I hate brinjal… so Brinjal in any cuisine is a big no, no for me!

With a new born baby back home, this seemed like an obvious answer - I hate being at shoots late in the night, it's too tiring and is something I don't like doing over and over again!

You will know where his inspiration comes from, it's from the people he hates to hang out with - I don't like being around with people who give me the negative vibes. Jealously is something that gets on my nerves, everybody is where they are following the efforts put in, you are just wasting time feeling jealous!

The manly Chetan Hanraj hate wearing... Pink!

Because...
I think it's too panzy!

The kalnayak of televison avoids watching... The daily soaps! Well, that's when I watch TV, I hardly get time these days!

He makes the life of your favourite charaters miserable, what's a bad day for you?
I always want to be doing something, I don't like days when I haven't gone shooting for long.

The movies you hate - I don't like movies with too many songs.

The music you hate listening to - Remixes! I have what they doing to good ol' Hindi classics, they are too wanna be!

Well, there is one thing that any star at any height of fame cannot afford to hate, and Chetan is one of the stars who loves his fans, he shares with us his favourite fans - I love my younger fans, they make me feel really happy as there is no pretence, once few street vendors recognized me and they were so thrilled, I let them sit in my car, and they were having lots of fun acting like they were driving!

Message to your fans - Keep on watching me, I will not disappoint you!

Shall we dance?

The air is thickening with the buzz about celeb couples being short listed for the second season of Nach Baliye. While there are some who have already given a nod, a few couples had to decline this exciting offer; reason being, a refusal by their better half.

We are talking about two duos, Rinku - Kiran Karmarkar and Renuka Shahane - Ashutosh Rana. The co-incidence here is that the female counterparts are game, while the men are killjoy!

"We are not doing Nach Baliye as Ranaji is very busy with his outdoor film schedules. Thus, it is not possible to do this dance show, which requires five months of our commitment. But I would have loved to be a part of it," smiles Renuka, who is busy penning a script besides looking after her kids.

This is Rinku Karmarkar version: "Kiran is not interested in doing the show but I want to! The other day I was joking with my colleague, Ali Asgar, that maybe we should participate as a couple since we are really interested while our partners are not."

Oh, come on guys, be a sport

Sasha Stranded!

Chetan Hansraj spent eight hours in his car to save himself from the downpour in Baroda

Reena Thapar Kapoor

The actor who became a household name with his villainous portrayal of Sasha in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, will play a cameo in Ramanand Sagar's historic serial Prithvi Raj Chauhan. Why did he choose to be part of a period show? "It's a small 10-episode role. I play a king who ends up killing Prithvi Raj's father. Earlier I'd shoot for 30 days a month but now I've cut down on my work. I shoot only for 15 days now. It gives me enough time to do a lot of other things."

The actor is back from Baroda after a week-long shooting schedule of Prithvi Raj Chauhan. However, it wasn't really a memorable trip for the actor. "I guess the timing was bad. The city was flooded. If Mumbai is bad during the rains, Baroda is worse. I was heading towards the sets of the serial on the outskirts of the city in my car, when it got stuck in a puddle. Due to the water-logged road it was difficult to move ahead or go back."

Apparently, Chetan was stuck in the car for over eight hours. The actor says that the horrific incident reminded him of July 26 last year. "I thought only Mumbaikars go through hell during monsoon," he says.

Obviously, Chetan who had to report to 10 am could not make it to the shoot that day. "There was knee-deep water and the local crowd was wading through it. Sitting inside the car I felt handicapped," he says. Chetan tried to get in touch with the production guys but phone lines were jammed. "In circumstances like these it's really chaotic. Imagine what all actors have to go through? They have to report to the sets anyhow due to telecast pressures."

Tisca's Anand Ashram
by Aditi Jayakar Kane
Sunday, August 20, 2006

No make-up, glaring lights or shoots for the actress; she lives the frugal life to regain her peace of mind

Getting away from the regular humdrum of regular life is something Tisca Chopra (Urvashi of Sarrkar fame) had been dreaming for. So, it was three months of no make-up, glaring lights or late nights for Tisca. This was replaced by a disciplined routine, a complete change in lifestyle and a secluded existence aimed at de-stressing and rejuvenation.

In the three months where she travelled extensively, one of her major stops was at the Gandhi Ashram near Sonepat, Haryana. "Ever since I acted in the play Mahatma Vs Gandhi a few years ago, I have got interested in Gandhiji's teachings and philosophy. So when I got the opportunity to visit the Gandhi Ashram, I made the most of it. It was an eight-day stay where I was totally cut off from city life. The Ashram functions on the principles of naturopathy, self sufficiency and Gram Seva."

What did the stay in the Ashram entail? "We said prayers, interacted with the other Ashramiites, and basically led a very frugal life," says Tisca.

Talking about her routine she says, "After getting up at 4. 30 in the morning, we used to have a yoga session. A lot of walking and time spent on contemplation was also top on the agenda."

Not to forget, the change in diet that Tisca had to follow. So, it was no parathas and ghee for this Punjabi lass. "Hot water with honey and lime, non-spicy and non-oily food was my daily intake. We had to undergo a naturopathy treatment like a mud bath or a herbal massage or a detox steam treatment which would vary everyday," she says.

But the real test was the chores that she had to undertake. "I'd wash my clothes and sweep the room and other places of the Ashram too," she says.

"The ashram showed me how I had got so accustomed to luxuries. For instance, we had electricity but only fans. There was no television. Although some people had carried their radio sets, I didn't carry anything," she says. "I realised we consume far too much in the city. Here I subscribe to six newspapers but hardly read one. There we had just one local newspaper, which was to be read by all of us. After everyone had read it, we spread it as table cloth. Then we would use it to wipe wet vessels and finally we would use it as a bag to keep cucumber peels and other waste in it."

Did it feel good to be back to in Mumbai after the severe existence? "No, I want to go back," says Tisca. "There were peacocks and squirrels and so much greenery. You feel part of something larger and deeper. I have also embraced Buddhism as I like anything that keeps me connected with the right way of leading life."

Back from this break and totally refreshed is she considering getting back to work? "There are a few projects in the offing. I am in talks to anchor a show to be launched sometime next month. I also have a couple of films lined up, but I can't talk about them till everything is finalised. But I don't want to work in serials. I'm not interested in being a part of that culture anymore. Unless of course it's an offer that's really too hard to ignore!" she signs off.

Loin Talk

'I'm very romantic even in lust!'
'My sense of humour is enough to make a girl fall for me. Set me up with a girl I like and I can guarantee you that she'll be mine!'
</>

On your sex appeal
'Issimiyake'. It's a perfume that I'm always wearing. It has the axe effect on women (laughs). It creates a kind of magic.

How girls react to you
'Looks can be deceptive', is what they always tell me. Initially they think I'm a nice, decent guy but realize that there's a nasty and naughty bit to me too (laughs).

Your first date
It was in std. 10. in Kanpur. It was puppy love. She was a year younger than me and regarded as this hot chic. She studied in the nearby school. We bunked school and spent almost half the day together. I remember going to 'Little Chef' for a triple sundae. We were seeing each other for almost two years after that.

Your first crush
Anupama Verma. I was in school when her music video, Boom Boom was released. Today we are good friends. Imagine being good friends with your first crush. She burst out laughing when I told her about my crush. She's still so stunning. Like wine, she seems to be getting better with age.

Your most cherished compliment
'Looks can be deceptive!'. I take that as a compliment (laughs). I've heard it from so many women, even older women.

Your wildest compliment
It was a nice pickup line at Enigma years back. A hot chic walked up
to me and said, 'Nice shirt, can I tuck you out of it?' I think that's really wild coming from a girl.

Love & romance...
Love is beautiful. I believe in going with the flow. I'm seeing someone for almost two years now. It's a nice, happy phase but no commitments as of now. Who knows, it might develop into something more serious later. I'm also a very romantic person. I'd like to take my girl to Prague, walk hand in hand on the streets, and look into her eyes in the middle of Charles Bridge.

Lust...
I used to be very lusty earlier but I'm very romantic even in lust! I'd first connect with someone by taking her out for dinner, have great conversation, and then go ahead. It's not drooling lust. I respect women too much for that. Lust is very energetic. I want to be in it as well as don't want to because of the romantic angle to it. Lust is also important in a relationship otherwise it's too cold.

On a nudist beach
I'd just be part of the crowd. Obviously I wouldn't go there with my girl, I'm a bit of an MCP for that. So I'd just connect with some girl there (laughs).

What if a girl made a pass at you?
I guess I'll just go with the flow. I wouldn't really make a pass at a woman. I don't approach women that way. I'm too laidback for that. But if a woman makes a pass at me in the right way then she's had it! (Laughs).

Would you ask a girl out if you liked her but didn't know her well?
It depends on how much I like her. If I really want to spend time with her then I'd at least let her know. I'd take her out for a nice candlelit dinner in an Italian joint and with opera music playing in the background. I'd make sure that also starts liking me (laughs).

What if you fell short of money on a date?
I'd make sure that I go to a restaurant where I know someone. These are the best places to impress a woman (laughs).

Your dream date
Anupama Verma. But my dream did come true recently when I took her out for dinner. I like athletic built women with natural looking hair and who's a good dresser. I hate the long straightened out and coloured hair look. That's pass now.

Would you dress to impress a girl?
I'd just be myself. My sense of humour is enough to make a girl fall for me (laughs). I just need time with a girl. Set me up with a girl I like and I can guarantee you that she'll be mine! (Laughs). Unfortunately I don't get too much time with Anupama. She's too busy.

Flirtations...
People tell me that flirting is in my nature but I don't realize it. Maybe it's the funny things I say that makes me come across as a flirt.

Marriage...
(Laughs) Not for another four years at least. Today I want to work and don't want any pressure of commitments. So it can wait till I'm thirty, that's if I ever get married. It comes third in my list of priorities. Work, family and marriage! I'm happy when in a relationship but happier when I'm single.

What if your girl caught you with your pants down?
(Laughs) If I love her a lot, I'll apologize to her. Obviously I wouldn't expect her to forgive me but I'd try.

Your wildest bedroom fantasy
Hmmm…S & M. I'm not into it but would love to try a bit (laughs).

Are women a necessary evil?
They are slightly evil and selfish too. But I guess that's the way to be in today's world. Otherwise women are necessary to stay healthy and keep my face glowing (laughs).

DEEPAK BAJAJ has just returned from Prague for an ad film shoot with AMRITA RAO. The four days, he admits, was like a great holiday cum picnic. He's also enjoying playing the negative Nikhil Mehra in Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki.

Sameer plans for an actor's forum!

Sameer Sharma has his hands full with Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii (as Krishna) and Left Right Left (as Navin Singh Ahluwalia) but this doesn't stop the actor from

Sameer Sharma: Dreamz unlimited!

working for the welfare of the actor community. The actor along with his other friends in the industry are all gearing up to open a forum for actors, writers and directors, who can attend workshops and training sessions during their leisure hours.

"The actors generally whale away their time when they aren't shooting and I've been talking to my friends who have shown interest in starting a forum. Most of the actors aren't trained also these writers and directors have acted sometime in the past. So, we plan to have workshops by trained and veteran actors and if all goes well, we might also start a production house too.At the end of it, it's about having fun and also learning from it. We will make small beginnings, and meet at someone's house or a hall or wherever suitable," says the Delhi bred charming actor who began his career with Star One's Dil Kya Chahta Hai and has been an advertising and IT professional in the past.

Coming back to Sameer's television work, he plays a sutradhar (Navin Singh Ahluwalia) in Left Right Left and his character is yet to go on air in the coming episodes. As of now, he's extremely fond of the title track of Left Right Left and has gone ahead to put that as his caller tune.
" I think it's a very nice and catchy song and by far it's the best I've heard for a television show," smiles Sameer.

Here's hoping his plans materialize soon and the industrywallas benefit from it too.

Miracles have occurred in in my life

There are times in all our lives, when we desire the need for divine intervention; times, when life refuses to acknowledge the seemingly obvious and decides to take refuge in a world that is far away from ours. A world that gives the body and mind the spiritual healing that it yearns for. We, at Telly Chakkar.com decided to delve deeper into the lives of our favourite stars and know a little about their lives beyond the obvious.

Achint Kaur started her acting career with Banegi Apni Baat as a drug-addict

and a product of a broken home. In real life too she comes from a broken home (her parents divorced when she was just one-and-half) but she's in no way like her on-screen character as she led a sheltered life with the support of her grandparents. Her roles in serials like Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki have established her as an actor worth reckoning. She has also acted in films like Julie and is presently being seen as the protagonist's (Iqbal Khan) mother in Balaji Telefilms' Karam Apnaa Apnaa on Star Plus.

"I even abuse God if I have to"
Yes, I believe in God but I don't follow rituals. I wish him Goodmorning and Goodnight, besides lighting the agarbatti everyday. I talk to God in my own way and tell him everything and if I am angry, I even abuse Him. I visit temples during festivals or whenever I am travelling I make it a point to visit the famous temple if there happens to be one.

"I told my Mom to have a boyfriend"

Since childhood, nothing was hidden from me about my parents' divorce. I used to tell my mother to have a boyfriend but she was this quiet, submissive type and she never re-married. But, I am very different from her and I am my own person. I only follow the diktats of my mind and conscience.

"I am a single parent"
Being a divorcee myself I am a single parent to my son Pritanjan. Despite Mohan Kapoor's presence in my life, I still call myself a single parent and all my son's needs are handled by me alone. As I never met my father till I was 25 years old, I didn't want history to repeat itself. So, I allow my son to meet his dad whenever he wants. When I was new in this industry, there were a lot of restrictions because my son was too small and I could not work beyond certain timings. It's just after he grew up a little that I could take up more serials and devote my time to my career. Since the past three months, my mom has come to stay with me permanently and that seems to be quite a relief to me.

"I have seen quite a few miracles"
Once when I was admitted in an army hospital, there was a lady with a small child on the next bed. When the child cried, she wouldn't move or attend to it and when I asked if she was alright, she said she was very weak and did not have anyone to take care of them. So, I helped her with taking care of the child.
Then after two years, when I was three months pregnant, I was admitted to a hospital. There were some complication developed and the child had to be aborted. I was administered an injection, after which I started bleeding profusely in the night. The buzzer in my room was not working and I was screaming and shouting for help but no one heard me. At midnight when the duty of nurses changed, a nurse opened my room door and entered. This was the same lady whom I had helped a couple of years back. She was shocked to see my state and immediately called the doctor and took good care of me till I recovered. She was God-send.

"I keep myself mentally active"
When I am depressed, I prefer to travel to some destination or do a womanly thing like shopping. Basically I keep myself mentally active so that I don't fall a victim to depressive moods. Whatever happens, happens for a reason. I believe what goes around, comes around!

"Years back I was offered the role of Mihir Virani in Kyunki"

I t definitely wasn't an easy decision for Anoop Soni to step into Mohnish Behl's shoes as Suyesh Mehra in Star Plus' Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki. But a few months down the line, the actor has not only done justice to the role but also been received very well by viewers. Though Suyesh Mehra has marked his Saaya foray into the saas bahu genre, the actor also has a number of hit shows like and Sea Hawks apart from a couple of films like Godmother and Thathastu to his credit.
Here, in a free wheeling chat with Prashant Golecha, Anoop Soni talks about his new found fame, his career and his future plans

IHow do you sum up your career so far?
I did my first television show for Home TV years back. It was produced by Ramesh

Sippy and starring Irrfan Khan, Ritu Raj Singh, Om Puri and Kitu Gidwani. Then I did Shanti on DD1 followed by Sea Hawks by Anubhav Sinha on DD Metro. This gave me an opportunity to work with Madhavan, Nikki Aneja and Simone Singh. At that time there were no dailies, so I was happy with weeklies. Then in 2002 stopped doing television. I got the role of Shabana Azmi's brother-in law in Godmother and I did films like Fizaa, Hatyar, Footpath, Inteha, Kagaar, Sheen, and Apaharan. But somehow, in 2004, I started doing television again. I did CID special bureau for one and a half years and later Remix

So, after doing shows like Saaya and Remix, how did you land up in a saas bahu show?
There's no denying that it's an age of daily soaps. And I am an actor, so I didn't judge the role by the nature of the soap. I found the character of Suyesh Mehra interesting, so I took it up. It was a very different role from what I had done earlier.

But it must have been a tough decision to replace Mohnish Behl?
When I was approached for Suyesh Mehra's role, my first reaction was that if Mohnish Behl was essaying the role, then it must be a good role. Mohnish had acted as Suyesh Mehra only for three months. So, when I stepped in his shows, I was accepted over a period of three weeks. Mohnish is senior to me and we bump into each other at parties. I did ask him as to why he had left the show, to which he said he wasn't too convinced about the track.

On a personal level how far do you relate with Suyesh Mehra?
Suyesh is tough, disciplined but not arrogant. Of course, I can't sign cheques worth 500 crores like Suyesh Mehra does. The warmth, sensitivity and discipline is what I also have in real life.

How is it working with Saakshi Tanwar?

She's a very good actress. We knew known each other for the last six years back as actors. Our working rapport is excellent. The biggest similarity between us is that we are passionate about acting. The atmosphere on the sets is good. I was welcomed in the unit although initially I felt awkward as all of them have been working with each other since five years. The co-stars now play carom board as well we joke with each other.

How's your relationship with Ekta Kapoor?
I share quite a professional relationship with Ekta Kapoor. After I started shooting for Kahaani, the only topic we discussed was my character. Previously, I had met her nine years ago when I did a show for Shobha Kapoor's brother. I was initially offered the role of Anupam Kapadia Kyunki…but I didn't take it up as I wanted to do films at that time. Then I was offered the role of Mihir, which was eventually done by Indra Kumar and then by Ronit Roy.

Are you satisfied with your film career?
The films I worked in haven't clicked. If the film is not a hit then it makes no difference to your career even if you have performed well. My last film released was Thatasthu. My forthcoming film is Tarkash in which Suchitra Pillai has been paired opposite me. It's about male chauvinism and is produced and directed by actor Kamal Sadanah.

You've done television and films both. What gives you more creative satisfaction?
In today's market the medium doesn't matter. The reach of both the mediums is almost equal. On a personal level I only look for good roles and good work.

Do unconventional looks help?
Appearance is important. Afterall, television is a visual medium and how a person looks also helps in getting roles. But then each person has a particular look.

So, what are your future plans?
For the next five years I want to concentrate on acting and after that I may venture into direction. Offers keep pouring in. I do get 10-12 days free in a month and I would like to try my hand at comedy

After Saaya how come U TV didn't offer you any roles?
I have done Shaanti, Sea Hawks and Saaya for UTV. They did approach me with an offer to replace Mannish Goyal in Bhabhi, which I didn't take up.

Apart from acting what keeps you going?
I have been a faculty at Kishore Namit School ten years back for a period of one and a half years. I used to take speech and voice classes. I had students like Apoorva Agnihotri, Mannish Goyal Priya Gill, Akshaye Khanna and Shabad Khan.

You are not seen at any of the page 3 parties. Do you have friends in the industry?

Madhavan and Salil Ankola are my good friends. With Madhavan I did three shows including Saaya, Sea Hawks and Badltey Rishtey and we bonded very well. He is based in Madras but whenever he comes to Bombay we catch up.
