Monsoon blues!

Rains have had their premature way in this year, and no one can stop recalling the dreadful memories of 26 July 2005 in Mumbai. With roads dug up in every nook and corner and complaints flowing in about the drainage system, how prepared the city is this time? Telly stars give in their bit on this issue!

They talk to Riya V Anandwala on the speculation of the monsoons this time!

Kiran Kamarkar

Kiran Karmarkar

Confusion! I seriously don't know what the scene is going to be like? I haven't taken any precautions till now; actually the area which I live in is pretty safe in this case. The highway is still dug up, and nothing has been done till now. Guess the city is not really prepared this time for monsoons. Its takes nothing less than a hour and a half to reach my place (Kandivilli) from Sankraman studio. I doubt things are going to be fine this time!

Mumbai is less safe this time as compared to last year. Roads are dug up everywhere, I hope and pray that the 26 July incident doesn't repeat this time. Well, but frankly speaking I seriously think that there are chances of it reoccurring, as the roads are not in a proper state. Now its high time that people take precautions, as I have done! I have taken care of my car parking, so that my cars don't suffer. As you never know!

Rajeshwari Sachdev

Well, I don't know! The moment I stepped out today, I encountered traffic. And what precautions can one take, cars were affected the most, but luckily nothing happened to our cars. No one can take any precautions, you see. But yes, it can't get worse, it can only get better! As far as the preparations of the city are oncerned, media have a different story to say. I have no clue what's going to happen this time!

Last time my experience with the rains was not really pleasant, so I really don't know whats going to happen! Roads are dug up everywhere around the city, last time I walked for nothing less than eight hours on 26 July 2005. It affects my work too, one can't afford to be punctual, if I have to report for shooting at 9 am, I have to push off from my house at 7 am. I have left everything to God!

Vikas Bhalla

Vikas Bhalla

Well, the monsoons have just started, but I don't see the city prepared! The drainage systems are not up to the mark, and the roads, don't get me started on that! There are promises every year, but nothing seems to be getting materialized. In terms of precautions, I plan not use my cars for nearly two months, as I have seen my friends suffering last time. I will travel around with cabs!

Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii's fourth bhabhi....

Jaya Mathur is the fourth actress to play the role of Shilpa Bhabhi in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii after Neelam, Surbhi and Sucheta Trivedi. Though we think, the character hasn't really evolved through the years, but somehow Jaya feels, "my role had turned negative for sometime and now it's again positive. I support Parvati bhabhi now and stand by her. From positive to negative and positive again makes the character interesting. I extend support to Parvati bhabhi along with my husband."
Interstingly, Jaya who has previously worked with Balaji in Bandhan and Kahiin Kissi Roz had recently played a call girl in Kasamh Se who was hired by Jeh Wadia played by Ram Kapoor. "My track which started as a cameo was revived once and may be back again,"says Jaya.

Now we must admit, to play a Bhabhi in one show and call girl in another one is quite a tough task. Would any other sari clad leading ladies of K serials dare to play a contrasting character of a call girl in any show? Our guess is as good as yours.

Parvati remarriage on June 22
By: Shaheen Parkar
June 9, 2006

Killer kaun?
Saakshi Tanwar

Parvati bhabhi (Saakshi Tanwar) is all set to tie the knot again with the man she trusts the most now — Suyaash Mehra (Anoop Soni) on June 22.

As her bte noire, Chhaya (Rinku Karmarkar) squirms and sees red at the alliance, Parvati's agenda prior to the marriage is clear — to unearth Om's killer.

But before that, there are several startling revelations that will unfold in the Balaji daily Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii on Star Plus.

Parvati will finally realise that her late husband Om (Kiran Karmarkar) was not a victim of the Mumbai flood as everyone believes. She happens to overhear a conversation between SD (Rituraj) and Pallavi (Achint Kaur). She is shocked when she hears Pallavi and SD using words like Om and murder.

Says Kahaani's creative head, Sandiip Sikcand, "In the June 19 episode, Parvati realises who the killer is. The identity of the murderer will take the audience by complete shock. This episode will be a crossover episode of Kavyanjali and Kahaani. It will be Anjali's sangeet special episode with Eijaz Khan back in the show as a new character Soham. During this, the killer will be revealed."

Armed with the identity, Parvati is all set to marry Suyaash. "The wedding ceremony will be elaborately shot," adds Sikcand.

Who killed Om?

Parvati suspects the following to be behind Om's killing
SD (Rituraj)
He was the one who struck up a conversation with Pallavi and the reason of his death.
Pallavi (Achint Kaur)
The prime suspect. She refuses to spill out anything despite Parvati's persistence.
Sasha (Chetan Hansraj)
The usual suspect of the Agarwal clan. Was he at work yet again?
In true Balaji tradition, is there someone else? Someone extremely close to Parvati will shock her by revealing some startling revelations about her dear Om's last moments before he was felled.

F Factor

Food n Fitness formula of Anoop Soni

Making his mark from television and now on the big screen, is Anoop Soni. The talented actor, who thinks that fitness is not just pumping iron but also all about looking your best. He shares his ideas of staying fit with ShaadiTimes.

Food is not everything for me, but yes it is something, which one should not overlook.

A strict diet
From Monday to Friday I follow a strict diet. My breakfast consists of a 6 egg- white omelette, which I have been having for the last 4 years. Lunch is always conventional- dal, sabji, and 3 chapatis. I avoid rice. Dinner is a soup, sprout salad and 2 pieces of chicken.

Saturdays and Sundays I just freak out on food. I eat everything and anything from idli, dosa, paratha to Chinese. But, if at all I break rules between Monday to Friday, I make it up by not eating on Saturday or Sunday.

I usually carry my dabba on the set. I love chocolate, mithai, but I try and avoid them.

Eat out
I like to eat out at least twice a week. You will mostly see me at Spices in Marriott or Legacy of China.

I freak on Chinese and Thai cuisines. Sundays I take my family to the Marriott for a buffet.

Like to cook
I am not a very good cook, but my wife is. After I got married I have explored different kinds of food. I cook delicious continental food by referring to the recipe book.

Health freak
I work out at least 4 or 5 times a week at a gym. I basically opt for cardio and weight exercises. No matter what I do not break this routine. This special care is really essential not to look good but to be fit and fine. Being in the business of acting this is essential. Since the past 4 years I have gained a lot of weight and hence I exercise not to look good but to remain fit.

A family dinner...
Would be Thai food with my wife and my children on a beach.

His mantra
We all like fried food but they should be avoided or atleast minimised. We should not forget that excess of anything is bad. Too much of exercise is also not good. Also do not refrain from eating, because if you do then one fine day you will get frustrated and will end up eating 6 samosas in one go! So eat, but eat healthy.

Tulsi and Om together on TV?

Rumours about Smriti Irani's show Garima getting shelved were put to rest last week. That's because Ekta Kapoor, co-producer of the serial began the pre-production work. Apparently, Smriti is kicked about acting in Garima, as she plays a 25-year-old in it—a complete contrast to her Baa image in Kyuni Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Word has it that actor Kiran Karmarkar of Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki will be paired opposite Smriti. With both Tulsi Virani and Om Agarwal together on-screen, it certainly will be a casting coup of sorts!

Tina's travelling tales

On her recent trip to Gwalior, the actress' tourist guide gave her the creeps

Reena Thapar Kapoor

Last week Tina Parakh better known as Shruti of Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki found herself in an uncomfortable position in Gwalior. She was there to inaugurate an upmarket mall.

The actress recalls, "I was excited as I was getting a two-day break from work and an opportunity to visit the beautiful city."

After finishing work she decided to go sightseeing. She says, "The hotel organised a local tourist guide for me. Initially he came across as an extremely polite and a decent person. He showed me the most exotic and historic places in the city. And in fact I was actually enjoying myself till I sensed something strange."

Parakh continues: "I realised that the guide kept staring at me from time to time. He wasn't behaving badly. But I was uncomfortable as he'd turn back to look at me every five minutes."

After a while, the otherwise tolerant and patient Tina lost her cool. "His job was to show me around but he was acting so funny that it made me lose my cool. Finally I asked him why he was constantly staring at me like that!"

However, the guide's reply made Parakh even more uncomfortable. "He later told me that I looked familiar. He told me that I remind him of someone he knows. I didn't know how to react to that, so I decided to just walk out," she says maintaining that she didn't want to embarrass the people around her and wanted to keep a low profile.

On the career-front, Parakh says she is going great guns. "I'm enjoying working in Kasauti... and Kahani... Apart from television, I've done three Pakistani shows, which have garnered fabulous response and that gives me enough reason to look for something as interesting and challenging," she says

The 'K' merger

Ekta Kapoor's Kavyanjali and Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki are coming together for a one-hour special

Subhash K Jha

Ekta Kapoor's most recent brainwave involves bringing together the characters from two of her favourite soaps on Star Plus-Kavyanjali and Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki — on June 19. The special episode will feature the entire cast of the two soaps and will also have guest appearances by actors like Shweta Tiwari, Aamna Sharif and Sai Deodhar, who play no part in either of the serials.

"We've brought the two soaps together once before," says Ekta Kapoor. "It will be called 'One Episode Two Dramas'. In the first drama Parvati from Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki (KGGK) will discover her husband Om's killer through Kayva (from Kavyanjali). The other drama will have Parvati bringing Anjali (from Kavyanjali) face to face with Kavya's look-alike. It's a very carefully crafted episode."

Sandeep Sikand the creative head of both the soaps is working overtime to ensure this fusion episode goes off without any confusion. "Characters from both Kavyanjali and KGGK have to look as though they know each other and are aware of the problems in one another's life," says Sandeep. "We are working towards merging the two soaps have effortlessly."

Dr Do-good is a hot favourite

After playing the kindly doctor one time too many on television, the actor lands up with a big fan following

Subhash K Jha

Mohnish Behl is television's blue-eyed 40-plus boy. "The label of the middle-aged woman's sex symbol is embarrassing but flattering at the same time. Since my wife (actress Arati) also seems to agree, I'm happy. My pedigree did give me an edge. Being Nutan's son made producers take me seriously," the softspoken actor says.

Mohnish seems to like his current television image of a middle-aged steadfast man. "I can play both positive and negative characters comfortably. I'm not tied down by any image. And that's an advantage. If I'm the kind doctor in Ek Ladki Anjani Si, I was also the brute husband in Devi." In fact, even in Sanjeevani, Mohnish's first soap he played a good-natured doctor.

Regarding his shift to TV from films, Mohnish says, "I was very satisfied with my innings in cinema. But somewhere a sense of stagnancy had set in. I needed a change. I still remember the morning in 2001 when while driving I noticed there were more hoardings of TV shows than films. That's when I realised the reach of television."

Mohnish starred with his Devi co-star Sakshi Tanwar once more for Ekta Kapoor's Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki. According to Ekta, the feedback to Mohnish's presence and performance was unprecedented. "She never told me that. Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki was the only serial I did with Ekta." Apparently his parting with Balajee Telefilms wasn't amicable. "I've been around too long, done and seen enough," he says and refuses to cry foul over the issue.

Television seems to be a good place to rest his acting aspirations now. "I give only twelve days a month to Ek Ladki Anjani Si. The rest of the time I divide between films and my family."

The actor who has starred in many Sooraj Barjatya's films, is at present shooting for another called Vivah. "I've just completed Sukhwant Dhada's Chooriyan where I've a positive role, and also another untitled Hindi-Punjabi film. I lied that I knew Punjabi in order to get the role. But my wife is Punjabi and she helped me with the dialogues. The Hindi-Punjabi film is somewhat similar to Ek Ladki Anjani Si. It's about artifical insemination with me again featured as a dependable doctor."

"Maybe it's my face," he jokes. "Till date, even when I'm offered the villain's role in films it's because they want someone who looks different from the conventional bad guy. From being Salman's adversary in Maine Pyar Kiya to his benevolent elder brother in Hum Apke Hai Kaun, I've done it all," he says.

• The label of the middle-aged woman's sex symbol is embarrassing but flattering at the same time. Since my wife (actress Arati) also seems to agree, I'm happy. My pedigree did give me an edge. Being Nutan's son made producers take me seriously

Ekta brings 2 soaps together!
By Subhash K Jha

Trust Ekta Kapoor to keep innovating in the most unexpected way. Her latest brainwave? She plans to bring together the characters from two of her favourite soaps on Star Plus—Kavyanjali and Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki—on June 19.

The special episode will feature not only the entire cast of the two soaps, it will also have guest appearances by actors like Shweta Tiwari, Amna Sharif and Sai Deodhar who are no part of the two serials.

Reveals Ekta, "We've brought the two soaps together once before. I'd call it 'One Episode Two Dramas' special. First drama will be when Parvati from Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki (KGGK) will discover her husband Om's killer through Kayva (from Kavyanjali). The other drama will be when Parvati will bring Anjali from Kavyanjali face to face with her beloved Kavya's lookalike. It's a very carefully crafted episode."

Sandeep Sikand the creative head of both the soaps is working overtime to ensure the special fusion episode goes off without any confusion. "Characters from both Kavyanjali and KGGK have to look as though they know each other and are confortable wth the problems in one another's life.

The two soaps have to come together effortlessly for that one evening," says Sikand who's also a theatre and film actor playing a key role in Mohit Suri's forthcoming WohLamhe and the hit English –language play Black With Equal.

The toughest roles on TV
Ali Asgar
Let me think. Quite some time back, in 1998-1999, there was a serial called Itihaas by Balaji Telefilms. I was playing the role of a don in that. Now just imagine me as an underworld don, and you will know how difficult it was for me to portray that character!

At that point in time, I was doing a number of comedy roles and wanted to specialize in them. Thanks to Ekta (Kapoor, head of Balaji Telefilms) that I could do something different and was appreciated a lot for my portrayal of a don's character. Unfortunately, Mr Anand, the director of the show, expired a couple of months back. He was my favourite director.
