The 2 guests get up and tell the Sharmas that they're leaving, and that once they've had discussions among themselves, they'd get back to them. As expected, the Sharmas are all dismayed by their reaction. While leaving, they notice the dancing bangles on the mantlepiece, and pick it up, and ask Padma about it. She tells them that Jyoti is a dance teacher. The 2 men leave.
Deepu comes out of his room, and is on his way out. Padma demands to know where he's headed, and he says that he's feeling suffocated, and going outside. Padma is fearful of whether or not this marriage will happen, and Deepu tells him that there is nothing to regret, and he regrets nothing. 👏 He says that nothing survives on a foundation of lies, and if he were to lie and get married, such a marriage would be destined for a break-up. And a plain example of that is right there at home... and then Deepu stops himself, realizing how Jyoti must be hurt by this. He apologizes to Jyoti, saying that he didn't mean it that way, but Jyoti is contemplative of how right he must have been. He assures her that he doesn't want anything bad to happen to her. Jyoti smiles and says that that she agrees, but tells him not to blame himself for anything - it's better to be hurt temporarily by the truth than live a life based on lies. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 She's proud of him that w/o any prompting, he presented the truth. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Padma looks at Jyoti disgusted and walks out.
That night, Padma bemoans that Deepu blurted out the truth: had that relation been finalized, their worries would have been eased (how?) KK tells her that Deepu did the right thing, and that he has no regrets. Padma accuses him of considering her wrong for lying (What a concept!!! A new one for this parivar?) She tells him that most girls these days wouldn't marry a guy on whom there already exists such a burden. She says that on top of the normal household expenses, there are also the expenses associated w/ their 2 daughters, for which no end seems in sight. She asks whether KK would have given his daughter in marriage to any family where 2 daughters were back @ their maayka (remember, Padma, he was ready to give Jyoti in marriage to Brij before the Sushma affair was known, no questions asked: it was only Padma asking all the questions then about Brij's future income, etc) KK tells her that this was a worthless discussion to have.
Padma blames Jyoti for meeting Brij before her marriage, and says that such things wouldn't have come to a pass today had that not happened. KK pulls that hypothetical a little further back, and said that had he not been injured in an accident, he could have worked; had he worked, Jyoti wouldn't have had to dance for a living, and had Jyoti not danced for a living, she'd never have met Brij, and neither would Sushma. There would have been no spanners in the works of Deepu's marriage, and everything would be hunky dory. Padma tells him that she'll discuss no more of this, since he never understood her before, and never will (Thank heavens for small mercies) and walks out.
Next day, a woman named Nanda comes to their house, and sits. Sushma offers to go and make tea, but she declines, and says that she's come to distribute sweets on the occasion of her daughter's divorce 😲😕 Everybody is perplexed at her reaction, and she shows them her new ornaments, and mentions that her car is outside, which she's just bought this week. She tells Padma that like Jyoti, when her daughter was kicked out of her sasural, she too was initially embarrassed by public reaction to her, but they decided to teach her sasural a lesson, and file for a divorce. They got Rs 30 lakhs settlement, plus the hubby's future earnings would go to her daughter in alimony payments, and as a result, not only their daughter, but they too are prosperous. At this point, KK rolls in, and Nanda continues to suggest to Padma to get Jyoti divorced - they'd easily get Rs 3-4 crores. KK, Dadi & Sushma look disgusted at her suggestion, while Padma is thoughtful, and Nanda takes her leave.
KK looks disgusted, but looking @ Padma, tells her that this is not possible. Padma asks her what's wrong w/ it? In their room, Padma urges him to look at the situation of the house, or even leaving that, just Jyoti's situation. She's going door to door for loans - what is the Pankaj Vashisth name doing for her? This name has created nothing but turmoil in her life (actually, had it not been for your darling daughter, her life would have been fine, and the only grief she would have had would have been due to Suday's marriage). She demands that Jyoti gets justice.
KK tells her that those flashes of riches that her friend showed her, including the car, totally changed her outlook. Padma accuses him of looking at her as the bad guy. She asks what does she have to gain - she has only some more years to live. (Given that Dadi is still so active, that's being unduly pessimistic, but for her sake, I do wish Padma gets her desire). She complains that Sushma is malnourished, and that what the doctor prescribed was above and beyond what they could afford. She can neither take care of herself nor her kid (it'll be interesting to see whether Padma will be that concerned about Jyoti as her pregnancy advances) She adds that she doesn't think that Pankaj and Jyoti will ever reconcile. KK looks shocked at the idea, while Padma asks him why he doesn't think of Jyoti and her baby? She asks how long would Deepu manage everything - once he marries and has his own kids, is he going to look after his own kids or his sisters'?
KK is exasperated that they are so casually discussing their daughter's divorce and alimony. He tells Padma that there is no way he's going to accept this. Padma tells him that she doesn't know whether what she's doing is right or wrong (what a surprise!!!), but if they got such a settlement from the Vashisths, then the future of both her daughters would be assured.
Jyoti refuses to ask for a divorce, saying that she can't even dream of it. Granted that they currently ain't together, but he'd always be her husband (if he asks for a divorce, she'll have to stop calling him that, particularly if he remarries). Padma tells her that no parent wants her daughter's marriage to break down, but what cannot be fixed cannot be regretted lifelong. She points out that in addition to herself, she also has the responsibility for her kid. Jyoti tells her that she's prepared to carry that responsibility. She tells Padma that she understands her predicament, since she hasn't got a job nor started her dance school as yet, but not to worry, and trust her. Padma asks her that if Pankaj asks for a divorce, would she still deny him that? Jyoti tells her that no, but even then, she wouldn't ask him nor his family for any alimony, since she was the cause of this marriage breaking up, and it was her fault that she withheld her relationships from Pankaj. He has every right to be liberated from this marriage, but she can't ask him for a divorce. This is her final decision, and she asks Padma to accept it. KK tells her that any decisions about her life has to be hers, and they'd fully support her decisions. Jyoti walks out.
Deepu is standing in the balcony, and Jyoti joins him. She asks him what's bothering him, and he says that they've got the final notice on the electric bill. Jyoti says it would be a while before she could either get a job or get money from a dance school, so until then, they'd have to make do w/ the stars and the diyas. Jyoti asks him how people used to live before there was electricity, and suggests that they go back there, and both of them laugh about it.
Jyoti is called from downstairs, and goes there and meets her old guru Dada Bhagya. He tells her that he's back from the south after doing some research on traditional Indian dance, and that he wants to restart his dance group. In that context, he wants to discuss things w/ her - he wants her to join the group, not just as a dancer, but as an instructor and choreographer as well, and this time, he'll pay her 3 times of what he used to.
Dadi tells Bhagya that Jyoti will need to get back to her on this. Everybody, including Jyoti, is surprised by this statement. Bhagya agrees, but asks that she make a decision quickly, b'cos if she declines, he plans to offer this to someone else.
Padma asks Dadi what's there to think - this is a great opportunity for Jyoti. Dadi says that she knows that Jyoti is in need of a job, and that the house needs money, but she is not going to allow Jyoti to take up dancing. Everybody looks stunned at her reaction, and the episode ends.
Baby Mausi tells Padma that there is no way the Sharmas are going to get a faultless bahu for Deepu - given the family situation. Padma is pondering it, and looks out of the window, and sees Deepu standing there, annoyed at those comments
On the marriage, Deepu is getting closer to forcing Padma to do it right. The first time, he taught her not to accept proposals from people more interested in the Vashisths, and now, he's made it clear that he won't tolerate a rishta built on lies. From the precap, looks like Baby Mausi is yet to be convinced, but Padma may have no choice but to accept things Deepu's way.
Also, while Deepu may have kicked himself for being insensitive, he was right - had he initially insisted that Jyoti be honest w/ her sasural when she first told him that nobody knows about Sushma, she'd have been in a temporary dog house, like several others, but since there would have been no Brij around to spin a tale, she wouldn't have suffered any consequences. Deepu therefore did no wrong in pointing out Jyoti, and it was good of Jyoti not to take it that way either.
On the woman who came in w/ the divorce suggestion, it was unclear from her account who was in the wrong, but she has apparently milked her daughter's in-laws for all it's worth. I can see Padma looting whatever comes in from the Vashisths for not just Jyoti, but Sushma as well. She conveniently forgets that had Jyoti ignored Sushma all this while, Brij could never have gotten to her, and today, everybody in her sasural would be savoring her pregnancy. I am glad Jyoti aborted the idea of taking alimony from the Vashisths. Incidentally, Pankaj is just a college professor whose income wouldn't be much: and in such cases, the wealth of only the hubby would be split, not the family. The real family business is run by Uday, and why would he owe Jyoti any money? Or for that matter MN&G, or CM? So in Padma's view, the Vashisth parivar riches belong more to Sushma than even to Sudha, who is still their accepted bahu?
Another bizarre point about this is that Padma is prepared to loot the Vashisths, who can pay, but she can't extract a dime from Brij, who caused the family a lot more pain (including psychologically damaging her own dear Sushma) than did Pankaj. Class envy trumps justice in case of Padma.
It was nice to see Bhagya back, but I wonder to what extent will he be immune from Jyoti's undeserved reputation as a cheat? Will he withdraw that offer once he finds out, or will he stand by her? I'd also like to see Dayal uncle at some point, but I don't see him returning to his sisters place as long as CM is there.
The promo I'm assuming will be there over the next couple of weeks, since it mentions Deepu's tilak engagement, and for that to happen, some episodes have to pass before they agree - I doubt it will be Jan 29, since it would mean that tonight, Deepu will have to agree to a match, and tomorrow will be the engagement. It seemed like Jyoti & Sushma were eager to convey the impression that they were still married, and everything was normal. Of course, promos have greatly differed from what actually took place. Also, will they show Pankaj agreeing to marry the Kota gal, and that being the pretext for him asking for a divorce? Or else, if they are separated, and he knows that Jyoti is carrying his baby, why would he ask for a divorce unless he wants someone else? Also, on Deepu, if they are planning to re-introduce Panchi and make her the dulhan, I do hope they have her re-surface fast, and hopefully this time, w/o the previous acrimony that her dad had, or get it resolved quickly.
Episode rating: 👍🏼👍🏼
Also, looks like the entire Vashisth family and Sudha now have a show break. Good for Sriti. I do hope that after 2 weeks or so, we get back to the Vashisths, and some Suday moments.
