Part 1

The scene starts with Jyoti telling CM that she cannot dance. CM asks why, and adds that this isn't a cheap party, but a major family occasion, and even her own family will be there. Jyoti tells her that she's willing to do anything, but she can't dance at the party. CM remarks that Jyoti has no problems dancing onstage in front of strangers, but has objections dancing at home on a family occasion in front of family. She understands that Jyoti is just looking for a pretext to oppose her at every opportunity. Jyoti protests that she obeys her at every opportunity, and CM points out that she had said yes on behalf of Jyoti, but now would have to reverse that and look embarrassed in front of Brij, just b'cos of her. She notes the contrast b/w Jyoti & Brij. On one hand, despite being a complete stranger, he's willing to sing at the party for MN&G, but Jyoti cannot heed a simple request. CM accepts it, but asks Jyoti to consider whether she's ever given anything to the family other than grief? Jyoti looks sad. CM continues that she made Jyoti a small request, and even that she couldn't heed. Jyoti sits down at the table upset, and pushes back the plate - unable to start her meal. 😭😭😭

In bed, Pankaj remarks that he really doesn't understand what Jyoti's problem is. He asks why she refused to dance? His parents would be so happy, so why did she decline? At least tell him. (This would have been a last good opportunity for Jyoti to tell him what she's going to have to tell him next week.) Jyoti tells him that she cannot do it. She hasn't practiced in months, and she'll be doing it in front of everybody. (How is that going to get her off the hook?) Pankaj tells her that it's just limited to family. He tells her that this is no competition, where everyone will be under the microscope. He continues that everybody dances to express their happiness, and few are trained dancers. But Jyoti is a trained dancer, so what's her problem? Jyoti begs him to understand that she can't. Pankaj says that it seems to him that Jyoti is just thinking of herself. She wasn't like that, so what's suddenly happened? Don't his parents mean anything to her? Can't she do this just for their sake? Jyoti has tears in her eyes hearing all this. Pankaj continues that even though they are her in-laws, they've always thought of her as their own daughter. There are no restrictions on her in this house - she always could do whatever she wanted. He says that he can't force her, so she can do as she pleases. Jyoti is now totally overwhelmed w/ guilt, and gives in and tells him that she's prepared to dance. Pankaj is surprised, but Jyoti confirms it, in a tearful voice. Pankaj tells her that he doesn't want to force her (so what has he been doing so far, if not emotional blackmail?) and she should only do it if her heart is in it. Jyoti says it's fine, and she didn't know why she had cold feet, but she'd go ahead and dance. Pankaj is perplexed at her sudden volte-face, while Jyoti says that she'll do what CM wants. Pankaj says he knew Jyoti couldn't hurt anyone. He says that even if she makes any mistakes, no one would laugh at her. Everybody is gathering to celebrate a special occasion, not to criticize anyone. He's sure they'd all enjoy it. A reluctant Jyoti sighs.

In the morning, at the Vashisth kitchen, a girl drops a plate, and Longshree scolds her, telling her that each plate is worth more than her monthly salary. Jyoti arrives at the scene and asks what happens, and Longshree tells her that she's broken a plate, and damaged the entire set as a result. The girl turns around and looks at Jyoti: it's Sushma. Longshree continues that today, b'cos there was a lot of guests to be served, CM loaned Sushma from Jyoti's maakya. Jyoti turns and walks away from the scene (I do fault Jyoti here. With a better presence of mind, she could have turned Sushma out of that place on incompetance grounds, and saved her the embarrassment of having to come to the party later. CM didn't have other staff she could have engaged for this occasion? Besides, the Sharmas could even have used her pregnancy to keep her from doing this assignment)

Part 2

At the Vashisth mansion, MN&G are entering a room, blindfolded by Minal & CM. Minal says it's a surprise, as they'll find out in a minute. They continue down a couple of steps, and ultimately, the blindfold hands are removed and everybody cheers - Pankaj, Uday, Jyoti and Sudha. The baloons are released, and everybody is in a very joyous and celebratory mood (somehow, Pratik was missing) as CM & Minal both congratulate them. MN&G note that this was why everything was served to them in their room this morning, and MN takes out a rose from his waistcoat and gives it to G. He starts singing to her, and everybody is impressed, including Jyoti & Sudha. (The only sweet family moment in this episode, and indeed, since Sudha's acceptance into the family)

Next scene has the roomfull of guests, and Sushma is walking around w/ a server tray, serving the guests. Brij enters, and CM tells Pankaj that Brij is there. Pankaj greets him, and tells him that he should have arrived earlier, and Brij tells him that for such a special occasion, he did need time to get dressed (actually, given how destitude Brij supposedly is, he came remarkably well dressed, better than even the Sharmas were when they arrived). He then volunteers to go and wish MN&G, and Pankaj takes him, and he greets them, and wishes them on their anniversary. Gayatri thanks him for coming, and Brij says that he would not have missed it. Jyoti is glaring at him from a distance, and Brij tells them that although he's not brought any gifts for them, he promised them that they'd enjoy this evening. Jyoti gives him the dirty look, while Brij continues that they'd remember it for years. He asks Jyoti whether she agrees, and she nods in muted agreement.

CM then notices that the Sharmas have arrived, and they go to greet them. Jyoti is shocked at the sight of her family there - in the same room as Brij. Brij looks up and says - sandanji means Jyoti's family, right? Jyoti looks helplessly as Brij asks her to introduce them. The Sharmas walk up to them, and Brij turns towards them. They are all shocked to see him, and he smiles at them, knowing that they were powerless to do anything on this occasion. Padma stares at Brij in resentment (what a difference from when she sent Sushma back to him!!!) and so do Sandeep & Dadi. They are all dumbfounded on what to do, confronted as they are by Brij.

Part 3

KK gives MN his gift, and wishes him many more years of a happy marriage. Padma does the same for Gayatri. Pankaj asks Jyoti to introduce Brij to her family. A very reluctant Jyoti introduces Brij to her family members, and they are all unsure of how to greet him, Deepu almost glaring at him. Brij then bends to touch KK's feet, but a glare from KK stops him. Dadi too steps back from him when he greets her similarly. Brij notes how lucky he is to be blessed by so many people. Sudha then joins Uday, who's standing w/ them, and seeing her, Brij remarks to KK on how fortunate he is that both his charming daughters are married under the same roof. KK & Padma both hang their head in shame, (since they have to be in the pretend mode of having only 2 daughters when they know that Brij knows that they have 3.) Brij notices this, and then asks Padma whether it's true that she has only 2 daughters? Padma looks up at him stunned, and Sandeep can barely contain his anger. Brij turns around, sees Sushma walking around tray in hand, and continues to the Sharmas that they have 2 daughters & 1 son, right? (Brij is now putting the Sharmas as going on record lying) By now, CM too is paying attention, while the Sharmas, including Jyoti & Sudha, look stunned. Padma gives him a muted response - ji. Brij smiles, and then beckons Sushma, and she walks up to them, tray in hand. The Sharmas, including Sushma, look extremely nervous. Padma grasps KK's sleeve, and he takes her hand to comfort her. Brij can't but chuckle to himself as he watches the reaction of all the Sharma family members to Sushma's arrival.

Promo

Coming Monday. Finally, Jyoti fesses!!! Jyoti resolves that today, she'll tell Pankaj everything, and at night, when they meet, her hand in his, she tells him - Pankaj, there is something I want to tell you about my relatives. This is something I never wanted to cover up from you, but I couldn't bring myself to tell you this until now. Pankaj's smile disappears, and he let's go of her hand. His face is that of one betrayed.😭😭😭

Comments

In the first section, I really felt for Jyoti. First of all, CM, who's completely rude, ignored the fact that she was eating, and gave her such a laundry list that at the end of it all, her appetite was gone.

Then the bed scene w/ Pankaj was sad to behold. He was right in everything he said, which is why this was the occasion for Jyoti to tell him everything about Brij, and why her objections to dancing was not due to MN&G, who she loved, but Brij, who she loathed. By not doing this, she needlessly set herself up for the fiasco that is to follow. But it was heartbreaking to see her torn between serving her parents-in-law, who she loves, vs dancing to the song of someone who is out to destroy her family.

The main party scene, where the Sharmas get introduced to Brij, was priceless, and poetic justice for this lying bunch. It was funny to see a completely fettered Sharma family, face to face w/ Brij and totally unable to confront him re: his abuse of Sushma. It was even funnier seeing them lie to another liar who knew the truth, and him pulling off a trick re: it. He asks them how many daughters they have, and when confirmed 2, neatly calls Sushma there just to see their reaction. It was just too good seeing the Sharmas so completely humiliated. If you have been avoiding these episodes for the sake of my updates, do watch this one - it's a must see, unless one happens to condone everything that the Sharmas have been doing re: Sushma's relationship w/ the family.

I suspect that tomorrow, Brij will order Sushma to do certain odd jobs, and the reaction of the Sharmas will be there for everyone outside the family to notice.

As usual, great work.

I will watch the episode, but pl do not ask me to watch her dance to Brj's tune. That will be too pathetic.

Like the singing VonTrapp family in sound of music, we should refer to these guys as the Lying Sharma family!

I only PRAY that the CVs remember that this came about coz of Padma. Had she put a stop to Sushma's involvement with this guy on day 1, none of this would have happened. Please do not forget to make her grovel before the entire group. I dont want to see Jyoti forgive her.

Don't watch the first part of the Dec 24th episode - watch after that. I liked the part where Sumant finally addressed CM the way she deserves to be addressed. Also funny was how Brij was describing how his girlfriend left him for a rich hubby, attracting sympathy. I'd love to see CM's face when she finds out that the family in question is hers. But the faces of Jyoti, KK, Deepu and others were a picture as Brij described these things about her.
