Jyoti is worried by what choti-ma has revealed about her family contributing to Sishu Mangal in one hand, and taking away from the other, and is weighing in her mind the conflicts b/w cm's order to stop drawing a salary from there, vs her own promises to Sudha, KK, Deepu and others to keep supporting the family. ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
KK is savoring Sudha's performance, and tells Dadi that he's pleased at Jyoti's suggestion that Sudha study further, particularly since she has a knack. Padma scoffs at the idea, and remarks that it's time to get her married, so that she'll no longer be a burden on them, and that she'll be happy. Deepu is outraged at the idea that already the conversation has shifted to the question of Sudha's marriage, but Padma tells him that he won't understand, and also adds that Sudha doesn't look like she's the career minded type. KK asks Padma whether she thinks that after marriage, life is a bed of roses, and asks her what would happen if a husband befell a misfortune like he did? Padma asks whether KK expected her to work after her accident had she been educated. KK remarks that as usual, she twists things, and adds that when a woman is educated, in the event of adversity, she doesn't have to go for handouts. He also asks her whether she's ever bothered to ask Sudha her opinion. Padma retorts why bother, since her Jyoti didi has already made this decision for her. (Since when does Sudha belong to Padma more than Jyoti? Padma is the baharwali here) The phone rings and stops the argument, but Padma adds that the mother of a young woman has a lot of things in her mind, and she wants that her marriage happen ASAP. (Even though I want Sudha and Uday to get married, I was pissed off @ Padma, as I always am. But weigh in on this debate in this poll)
Just then, the phone rings and Uday calls, and Deepu hands it over to Sudha. Uday congratulates Sudha on her results, and tells her that he would have liked to come the previous evening, but had to accompany cm to another event. Sudha tells him that he's welcome there anytime, and Uday tells her that there is no way he's going to decline such an offer. In fact, he has some work at that area the very next day, and so tells her that he'll drop in tomorrow. Sudha is happy to hear that and says that tomorrow is okay. Uday then asks her whether she's decided what she wants to do in future. She tells him that Jyoti has suggested that she go in for further studies. (Nice Suday moment, although I didn't like Padma noticing this conversation. I don't want Padma to be the catalyst that brings Suday together. She should keep her hands of Sudha and Jyoti altogether. One thing I like is she now being on bad terms w/ cm)
Jyoti is having a discussion w/ Kalpana on this issue, and worries that she doesn't know how to support Sudha's further studies. She says that although she and Pankaj had agreed that she'd continue to work, she had perhaps forgotten that marriage isn't just b/w the spouses, but also w/ their families. She also says that regardless of her mannerisms, cm is also right in her concern regarding this issue. Kalpana tells her to discuss this w/ Pankaj, but Jyoti points out that when Pankaj supported her on continuing in Sishu mangal, cm was very upset, and Jyoti didn't want to drive a wedge b/w Pankaj and cm, when he adored her so much. She also knew that Pankaj would voluntarily contribute towards her family, but she didn't want that, since people would say that she married a rich guy to take advantage of him. Kalpana reiterates that Jyoti should still discuss this w/ Pankaj, so that new solutions can emerge. (Kalpana is making very sensible arguments here. So why did she suggest to Jyoti not to tell Pankaj about Brij & Sushma before the wedding? Also, I disagree w/ Jyoti - just as it's societally accepted for a girl who doesn't work to simply marry someone who does and can support both w/ his income, it's not unethical for her to use Pankaj's money for her own needs, particularly her families, as long as he knows about it and is okay w/ it, which he is. She needs to stop thinking of what others think of her. Same goes for cm)
Part 2
The obligatory BS - Brij-Sushma scenes. Brij comes home, where Sushma has 2 plates laid w/ food ready. Brij heads for the bottle and Sushma tries to stop him, but he ignores her. On her insistence, he accuses her of betrayal, and tells her not to touch him, quit acting the dutiful wife and that if he dies, it'll be on her head. Sushma is heart-broken, but after he lies down, Brij is secretly gloating over what he's contrived her state of mind to be in. (Why exactly did he bring Sushma back from her house?)
Devika is waiting outside the disco for Uday, miffed that on the night she's in a really good mood and feels like dancing, Uday is not there. The guard asks her to sit inside, but she declines. Then 2 of the guys who mocked Uday the other night as Majno started chatting about them, and one told the other that whenever her boyfriend is there, she isn't, and when she is, he isn't. The other suggests finding out whether there isn't any cross connection. Devika walks up to them, and tells them to mind their own business, and threatens to show them the cross connection. They pretend that they weren't talking about her, but she tells them that she heard everything, and wouldn't tolerate any crap said about either her or her boyfriend. She then mutters angrily to herself about Uday daring to make her wait. (Apparently, Uday didn't turn up for this, since he had now resolved not to approach Devika first, following the spat that they last had). (Even though I'm rooting for Sudha to get Uday, not Devika, I'm happy that Devika shows some signs of loving Uday by threatening those who bad-mouth him. If only Uday was here to see it)
Jyoti wakes up in the morning, and it's late. Longshree tells her that Pankaj has already left, and asked her not to wake him. Jyoti groans, saying that she had to talk to him. Longshree tells her that cm is waiting for her downstairs for breakfast, and Jyoti says she'll be there. She notices the calendar - September 1, and the various statements start ringing in her mind again.
Part 3
Jyoti is at Sishu Mangal Anathalay, and sitting at her desk, wondering how to resolve this issue, when Dayal uncle comes in. He tells her that govt work is usually delayed, but this time, he's received approval for the cash from Jyoti's Providend Fund. Jyoti remembers that she had asked for it earlier, and seeing her frozen, Dayal uncle asks her what she's thinking, and whether she wants to stop the withdrawal. She tells him that no, she does need the money. Dayal Uncle is puzzled, and asks her why she discontinued her salary, and Jyoti tells him that she does need this cash. Dayal uncle tells him that it'll be as she wishes. Jyoti asks him to expedite it, and he agrees, and she is relieved.
At KK's house, the doorbell rings, Sudha takes it and hugs Jyoti as she enters. Dadi is excited and offers a plate of sweets, and Jyoti asks what the celebrations are about - Deepu's promotion? Dadi tells her that from her in-laws, it's the 1st, when she'd arrive w/ the tankha (someone please translate this word). Jyoti looks worried, and KK asks what's wrong, and Jyoti tells them that this month, it'll be late, and KK looks surprised, and Padma looks annoyed. Dadi asks her what's she saying, since both the tankha and the box of sweets have come, and that Pankaj's driver dropped it on the way. Dadi asks her whether she's forgotten, and she smiles and 'admits' she has. Deepu asks her that she never forgets anything, so what's it now, and what's it about her salary, and Jyoti says that it's slipped her mind. She realizes that Pankaj knows everything.
At home, Jyoti's w/ Pankaj, and he asks her whether she expects that he'd have no idea of problems she's having? He said that when Dayal uncle told him that she had asked not to receive any salary, he realized that there was a problem, and that he knows how important that money is for her family. Jyoti agrees, but Pankaj tells her that her relatives are his relatives, which was why he sent the money, and asks if he did anything wrong. Jyoti says he was right, and that each other's bonds belonged to the other. Pankaj asks her whether that means he can share her problems, but Jyoti denies that there are any problems. She says that this was something cm noticed, and she agreed w/ , and that there was gossip that the family was donating money to Sishu Mangal and taking it out in the form of salary for the family. Pankaj is shocked to hear this. Jyoti adds that cm didn't like the family being slandered, and neither did she. Pankaj however points out that cm never cared what other people said or thought, and only did what she thought was right. He points out that Sishu Mangal was not just a job for Jyoti, but a joy for her. Jyoti says that she does have to stop working for the sake of the family, and doesn't want cm to be unhappy. Pankaj tells her that she doesn't understand cm, and once the situation is explained to her, she wouldn't want the kids to be deprived of Jyoti. He adds that nobody understands her better than him, and Jyoti looks at him surprised. (Pankaj might want to check this last claim that Bairavi is understanding w/ Uday, who is seeing and experiencing everything that Jyoti is. When Bairavi made uncalled for remarks about Jyoti's maayka, everyone - Uday, Gayatri and Pankaj's dad - were uncomfortable. I'm glad that Pankaj's parents are starting to override cm on some issues, like they did last night on whether Jyoti could be w/ Sudha.)
Precap Pankaj & Jyoti approach cm, and Pankaj tells cm that while he is aware of her desire that Jyoti not draw a salary, he wants her to enjoy the benefit of working there.
Today's was a very good episode w/ bits and pieces of everything - Suday, Devika, Kalpana, P-J, et al. The only parts I hated were the BS parts, as well as Padma weighing in on Sudha at all. If only she saw what a gem her Sushma turned out to be @ Brij's place w/o passing Class X, then she'd realize - assuming that she herself passed Class X.
I hope that Uday's meeting w/ Sudha happens before Devika's fight, and that they get moments w/o Padma being anywhere around. Maybe like the other day, when everyone else was out, KK was in the shower and Uday dropped in. Something like that.
