NASA Developed $12 billion Pen

When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered that ballpoint pens would not work in 0 gravity. To combat this problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 billion developing a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to over 300 C.

The Russians used a pencil.

The joke is actually that NASA spent like 12 billion dollars to make a pen so that there would be something to use up in space, when they travel to the moon but they could also use pencil, which the Russians did, instead of making a 12 billion dollar pen. They made a 12 billion dollar pen because the normal ballpoints/ pen can't be used in space but the forgot that pencils can be used.

And plus it's just a joke, can pens be used or not? Can pencils be used or not? I don't know.
