The novel is approximately set in 1640-1650s - i.e. around the time of Aurangazeb's ascension to power...

As mentioned HBAS is only inspired and not directly derived from the Mughal Empire chronicles, the timings might be a bit off...

But even in reality, Aurangazeb ascended the throne only when he was 40. Shah Jahan when he was 36. Salim (Jahangir - Akbar's son) when he was 36.

After Shehenshah Akbar, who ascended the throne at 14, I'd think none of the Emperors came to power very young - because of politics, family feuds and spending most of their younger years (twenties) killing off brothers and other male competition to the throne 😡

Lot of times they separate the good/hybrid quality ones for export and keep the low quality ones for local consumption. I know that is what they used to do for cashew nuts. My dad's friend owned a cashew nut factory in Mangalore back then, he took us there. We couldn't believe how big the cashews were and was told they export it to the United States!

Yes... I've seen the local versus export quality too... on that note, there was something funny that happened here last year...

I think the British authorities found something 'off' about a few batches of Curry leaves that came in...and stopped allowing it to be exported here!

For almost a year, it was very difficult to find curry leaves in any of the Indian/Sri Lankan/Pakistani/Bangladeshi stores here...

Have you ever heard of people smuggling curry leaves in? That's what sort-of happened... the shopkeepers at the counter would store the curry leaves in the cupboards under the shopping till... and we'd have to buy it from there!

By chance if a crate came, it'd be gone in under 24 hours! 🤣

That was possibly one of the first hints I'd given when starting this... hadn't I?

but the other characters like AMK and Mahender, Shezaade gave an interesting read.

Yes... different shades of grey! One smouldering like smoke ... while others are all grimy muddy greys

Specially AMK how he envisioned the future if he drag Heera along with him... Truly that's exactly what happened. 😭
