I really did think Salim was better... but after what I've read, I've drastically amended my views...

Never really read much about the prince 'Khusrao' but after reading about his sorry life, I am feeling really 💔 Good prince he was, brave, loyal, had none of the vices of his father Salim - so much so people wanted him for king over his own father which made Salim - his own father - jealous of him... only disadvantage Khusrao couldn't be as 'sly' as the others... and he suffered for it!

Apparently, Shah Jahan's love story is popular... and so is Akbar-Marium Uz Zamani's

But read up about the story of Khusrao (Akbar's favourite grandson) - read up about the love story of Khusaro with his first wife (grand daughter of Rahim) He had 3 wives... but very fond of his first one.

After having been blinded with wires by his own father, and put in a cell for 10 years... his first wife stayed with Khusrao through it all...
He loved her for it and refused to take upon another wife - Nur Jahan's first daughter - which Nur Jahan was pressurising him to do so.

He knew it'd lead to his ultimate death... his first wife begged him to take on the wife... but, he had given her a promise???

Ultimately, Nur Jahan stopped supporting him... and a year later, Shah Jahan had his slaves kill him in prison...

Shah Jahan then had all of Daniyal's Murad's and EVERY other male member in the family killed 😲

I have little empathy for that old man and for him having spent his last years alone imprisoned now 😡
No wonder Aurangazeb turned out like this!

Anyway Rekha - See the power that the religious heads wielded, the 'Ulemas' - they brainwashed Salim against Khusrao his own son (because he was son of a Hindu Begum) and thought that if Khusrao came to power, the Rajput influence might become stronger in court...
I shouldn't be shocked I came across so many Farooq Sahibs while reading up on this, but I was!

Welcome to the historical reality of the Mughal era, Lashy! Now you know why people dreaded the Mughals and shivered in hearing they are coming. There were so many Durgas who were sacrificed to their lusty desires and hunger. That period of history was morbid to an extent! Now you know, why Akbar is celebrated so much for his liberal views and presence of mind. In spite of not knowing to read and write he possessed a mind and brains that saw over and above religion and fanaticism. The regular talks on several religions broadened his mind be it on the Islams, Hindus, Jews, Portuguese, and Christianity. He went to the extent of changing the mosques to keep elephants and horses in them. He was smart enough not to rile the Ulemas but they knew his verdict was the ultimate and they were of no importance.

I will say even Humayun was somewhat to some extent broad-minded and lenient but after Akbar all were 'tauba tauba'! Even Babar was very barbaric! And the last Mughal Emperor took the cake in being fanatic and cruel! 🤔 And yes, as you said, his father and grandfather were no less!

I work at nights to protect your light,

I work in searing heat to keep you from the cold.

'Huzoor... do you remember... that incident when you were crossing the desert once... your troupe was attacked... fortunately, my men and I had uncovered the assassination plot and reached you promptly... it was my first task as an Intelligence Officer and it was tough... for three days we had to fend off enemies... the weather was unbearable... we were starving... and had only 3 bags of water to keep us all going...' Akbar smiled to himself, as though recalling the incident fondly 'but what's important Huzoor, is that we managed to get you out of that attack, safe and sound!'

Oh this is so beautiful Lashy! Yes I remember this conversation. Before AMK/Ustaad asks his Huzoor to make him the Mansabdar of Parnagarh, he reminds him of this incident and the Shezaade kind of gets irritated that he was reminded of this! He says "I have a good memory, Ustaad...so come straight to the point...what do you want?"

It is brutal and vicious. Same thing in Greeko/Roman history as well. Treachery within the families, treachery between friends, siblings, parents...what all they do/did for power!

Aurangzeb did have a bad name, but looks like his predecessors were no less except Akbar! Also lot of them were indulged in intoxicating drinks, adultery, and drugs!

I lay my life for you daring the brave and bold!

So you could live in peace and be safe and sound,

But today, all I have are the innumerable wound!

Inflicted by you, my Brother-once, you were so caring,

Bereft of love now my heart, body, and soul lie all baring!

The honest truth that bleeds from my wounds tell a tale,

It is your loss and henceforth you'll alone face the strong gale!

You will remember many-a-times when I laid my life for You,

Huzoor, this Phoenix will rise and soar for loved ones all anew!
