And over and above all these qualities Vidur is also looked up to as Daniel who was a man of principles and good judgement and upholding justice.
He was the only person who objected to Dhritarashtra's crowning because of his visual impairment saying a King has to be perfect to be able to comprehend and see everything about his subjects. Unfortunately, as fate would have it because of Pandu's oath and penance Dhritarastra became the caretaker king of Hastinapur.
Vidur was the person who protested about Draupadi's vastraharan in the court all throughout! He reiterated all of Draupadi's questions to Dhritarashtra and asked him to answer her.
When Vidur went to Virat kingdom before Mahabharat war to get the Pandavas to convey the message of Dhritarashtra to forget about war and when asked about his own personal advice he first gave his minister position aside and as their uncle told the Pandavas that they should prepare for war and get back what is their own.
All throughout Panadava's vanwaas period, he kept Kunti in his house instead of her being in the palace and this hurt Dhritarashtra's pride a lot.
Vidur was a great devotee of Lord Krishna! And Krishna was equally very fond of and respected Vidur and his judgement immensely!
He gave up his minister position before Mahabharat war but after the war was again the guide of Dhritarashtra and even went along with them to the forest until the end of his life! He was dedicated to the throne of Hastinapur all his life! He devoted his life to it!
All throughout the epic, he was the only person who without any fear always told the bitter truth and was the sounding board of conscience to Dhritarashtra and for this, he even heard quite a lot of earful from Dhritarashtra!!
He was a personal favourite of Gangaputra Bheeshma and he himself looked up to Vidur and asked for his advice on many occasions when he was in a quandary!
After the Mahabharat war was over Bheeshma gave all his knowledge to Yuddhistir about uprighteousness and dharma but he asked him to go to Vidur and get his lessons and knowledge about political aspects, his take and lessons on justice, how to rule the kingdom and keep his subjects happy!!
Rose I can write thesis on Mahabharat and the characters because I have read so many books by different authors on the epic and original epic itself both in Bengali and English and this is one of my all-time favourite book where you find every aspect of life and the lessons and every character represents something and have their own story and how they are all interrelated to the original story!
