Akka,
I am not an expert in these matters, but I have heard it said that the producers of any show monitor viewers' forums like the IF to get feedback about the response to their show. It is a whittled down version of the TRPs, and it would be logical for the producers to tweak the story line, even if only slightly, in order to soothe irate fans who vent their anger here, just as they do when there are major TRP oscillations.
But that is not the issue here. It is rather whether a writer is sure enough of her/his creation to be able to absorb criticism of the characters she/he has brought to life here. If not, then the writer will be pushed this way and that by adverse criticism, and will end up like the fable of the man, his son and the donkey.
I was sure Lashy would do no such thing, and I was glad to have that confirmed from the horse's mouth,so to speak. I would not see her as so fragile that her characters have to be wrapped in cotton wool and kept safe from any critiques till the tale is wound up.
And what does one do then? One cannot start analysing the characters once the story is over, that too in one large indigestible lump. There will be no interest in them any longer. Which means that the novel would be left to its own devices as far as character analysis goes, and the writer will not benefit from any constructive criticism during the period of serialisation of the novel.
In any case, though I have not read thru the 150 odd pages of comments on each thread, even a casual look thru seems to show only warm praise of Lashy's handling of this story and its characters. I simply cannot imagine anyone writing a harshly negative review of this tale! Any such reaction would be purely motivated, and the last thing a writer should do would be to fall into a depression because of that. In Lashy's place, I would simply ignore it.
If you are hinting at what I wrote, very strongly, about the violation of Durga being totally avoidable, Akka, that was not about any character, but about Lashy's handling of the narrative, and would thus fit into your Allowed list. in any case, she put up a stout defence!
As for me, I will carry on as before, for that is the only way I know to analyse a chapter or chapters, and I am sure my Lashykanna will bear with me!
As for giving her encouragement, I do not think my detailed analysis of Heera's character in this thread could have failed to give her a solid shot in the arm, for Heera is her brainchild after all.

My dear Shyamala,
In the case of Jodha Akbar or any other show, whatever you or I write is not going to the notice of the production team. Hence whatever we discussed about the episode would not have had any effect on the future episodes of the show. I don't agree that Akbar's character went down rock bottom because the production team tried to modify the story on public demand, a stated by Sandya. Plus the viewership of any TV serial is more than the readership of a story in this forum. Here every comment or remark is seen and answered by Lashy and it will definitely have effect on her.
Shyamala, Sandya and Lashy, I did not cut any portion of my original post, I simply deleted a word that was redundant in the context.
Yours,
Saraswathi Akka.
QUOTE=sashashyam]Well, my dear Akka, I do not know what you have edited and why, but I presume that you have toned it down somewhat! But why? Neither is Lashy nor am I so thin-skinned as to be upset by well meant dissent! So please do not apologise for stating your views, not now, not any other time.
As for me, if I was to follow your regulations, I would not have been able to do a single one of my Jodha Akbar episode analyses, which were the same thing as commenting on the chapters of a story. How could I analyse the episode, or the situations, without analysing the characters? They are after all the core of the tale, and I for one cannot simply comment on the style. What would I say each time, that it was wonderful, awesome, mindblowing et al? I would soon run out of both interest and adjectives!😉
My stand is that once a writer puts her/his work in the public domain, it is fair game for any kind of dissection and comment, provided it is not malicious. And as for my Lashykanna, she is a tough cookie, and I am sure she is not going to change her story line because of negative comments about her lead pair or indeed anything else. She is not Ekta Kapoor, a TRP-driven weather vane! You are, are you not, Lashykanna?
