My little Shagun,

I thought your exams were still on? What are you up to then circulating all this faltu stuff?

It does not matter who Chandragupta Maurya's wife is. It is most unlikely to be a love story, even allowing for Ekta's uchit aur aavashyak natakiya rupantar. The lead pair will be Chandragupta and Chanakya, so it is far more important who is going to be cast as Chanakya. I hope it will be Manish Wadhwa, for he will bring intelligence and authority to the role, and he and Rajat together will raise the bar very high.

If at all there is to be a "heroine" for this show, it would be Helen, the daughter of Seleucus Nikator, one of the generals of Alexander the Great, who ruled a kingdom in what is today Afghanistan before he was defeated by Chandragupta. I expect Ekta will be looking around for a blonde beauty to cast as Helen, though the Macedonians, and Greeks in general, were and are mostly dark haired.

As for Chandragupta's first Indian wife, Dhurdhara, by all accounts she died when their son Bindusara was born. So I doubt if Paridhi, even if she was approached, would want such a role!

I don't know who this Nandini is, nor do I care. Neither should you and your friends here, who seem all set to enter into terminal depression!😉

I was amused to see how much your post has made them feel badly let down; that is because your title sounds so misleadingly optimistic! I would have called it Reported choice of actress opposite Rajat in CGM bodes ill😡, and then no one would have felt so disappointed.😉

So, my pet, you should relax and concentrate on what is left of your exams, there is a good girl! Jo bhi aakhir mein tay hota hai, tab ki tab dekhi jaayegi.

Hello people!

EK has selected Shweta Basu to be in the lead role opposite Rajat in Chandra Gupta Maurya. See the article below :

It's time for an update on Ekta Kapoor's yet another ambitious project, 'Chandragupta Maurya'.

After roping in Rajat Tokas to play the title role, she has finalised her 'Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii' actress, Shweta Basu Prasad to play Chandragupta's wife, Nandini.
The actress made her comeback on television after 14 years with an episode of the horror series 'Darr Sabko Lagta Hai'.

This will be her full-fledged show since her return. Shweta didn't respond to our text message. Rajat, who is still popularly known as emperor Akbar in Jodha Akbar, was last seen in the top-rated show 'Naagin'.

I don't know what to say on this. 😳

Just in case you young people need some more cheering up, I would suggest that you take a look at
http://indiaopines.com/chandra-gupta-maurya-greek-princess-helen-love-story/
Of course I cannot vouch for the truth of this article since I am not a historian, and even if I had been one, I doubt if I could have done so,for there is very little written material about Helen. Or about Durdhara, for that matter, except that she was a daughter of the Magadha king Dhananand, the last of the Nanda dynasty, who was defeated and overthrown by Chandragupta.

But it bids fair to offer tremendous possibilities for someone with Ekta's penchant for natakiya rupantar!😉

More credibly, the very famous Hindi poet, dramatist and writer, Jaishankar Prasad, wrote a play called Chandragupta, in 1937. This is of course only a literary work, not a historical document, but interestingly, it would seem to endorse this idea of a love story between Chandragupta and Helen, as also her love for Indian culture. A preview of this book, which is of course in Hindi and the Devanagari script, is available in Google Books at

Ok, young ladies, that is it. Now you can start looking around for the ideal Helen, and enjoy yourselves!

To help this process along, take a look at Nidhi Tikoo, the Durdhara in the 2012 Chandragupta Maurya. That will help you get over the shock of the Nandini Shagun has dug up!😉

Thanks for the information, Aunty. 😃

And I agree with you. I too don't want Paridhi in CGM. There's no role meant for her in it.

But this actress? 😲🤣

@Bold, I never dug her up! 😲

Well, you located this Nandini in the TOI article, so you need to be given credit for that, no?😉
