Yes, Ashwinee, it was quite late and I was duly thankful that Saraswathi Akka, with whom I had been exchanging messages just before I wrote to you, did not get after me for that! I went to sleep immediately afterwards.
Yes, Jalal was wonderful in that scene, and your analysis of the microshades on his face and eyes is impeccable. And towards the end, he half closes his eyes in pure bliss, the
sukoon he mentions from time to time. Then when he says:
Begum nahin, malika! Hunar ki malika!!, he is still in that half trance, so the words are softer than usual, and spoken almost to himself, not so much to Jodha.
I am sure not even 10% of his TV audience would have noted these delicate nuances. Why 10%, not even 1%. An actor of his caliber is simply wasted here. I cannot understand why he has not been grabbed by a good director, while our aging "superstars" still hang in there and refuse to go away.😉 On the big screen, his acting calibre will show up very clearly, and the audience, shut into the dark theatre, would be forced to notice it.
To revert, see Jodha's response! It was so flat and it had nothing of the sudden pleasure that she must have felt at such unexpected and heartfelt praise, to be immediately followed by a pulling back. There was such a mismatch between the two of them. Rajat's Jalal is so far ahead, as loveamine wrote on my thread in 2013, that he walks alone. She meant that for character development, but it is true also for the acting.
When Jalal comes to give her the birthday gift, I remember how snippish and off-putting she was, and for what reason? They had not had a fight then, and if she cannot take a mild joke about the two
churis, she should at least observe basic manners. But then she never had any.
OK, I must not start off on my un-favourite subject! Take care, my dear. It is very lucky that you got off relatively lightly with that accident. It must have been a very near run thing. No, it was not painful at all in my case, for I could not remember anything of being hit. I had a mild concussion for 10 days but that too passed. The really painful thing was the nearly 3 months of physiotherapy to restore my wasted shoulder muscles in the left arm after it was in plaster for over 7 months. And in those days, in the mid-70s, the plaster was really heavy!
Bye for now!
Affectionately,
Shyamala Aunty
PS: Yes, the
fuchsia is deeper than the colour you have used, but then again, it is the thought that counts!🤗

Dearest Shyamala Aunty,
Thank you for this lovely response.
I went offline to resist the temptation of responding instantly as that would have kept you awake even longer but seems like you are in for a long night😉. I do hope that by the time I finish writing this up you would be, if not asleep, at least, offline as it is quite late at your end.
The rest in your favourite fuschia, though I think the shade is wrong.
Warmest Regards
Ashwinee
