Thanks Abhay for this beautiful but very depressing post. I have the Akbarnama and had avoided reading the Chittor war because I knew I would be very affected by it but couldn't resist reading your post.

What can I say? My heart is full of admiration for the Mewar Rajputs. To fight a loosing battle with the largest and most vicious enemy with the zeal that they did! One cannot even imagine the self respect and love that they had for their motherland. No words to express what I feel...
What disappointed me most about Akbar was not the ruthlessness(which is kind of expected from a ruler who is hell bent on conquering the land) but the religious overtones he brought into this war. Maybe that was his way of boosting the morale of his men who were all too ready to give up or maybe at heart he still had lingering remnants of the religious fanatic brought up by MA and his Khan baba.
I feel that maybe even Akbar wasn't proud of this blunder of his and that's why he left the fort in its decimated state and never looked back at it. He won the war but it really was a symbol of his failure as the noble ruler that he aspired to be.

All I can say is I kind of see where the Karni Sena is coming from. Yes the Jodha- Akbar romance seems like the stuff dreams are made up of but she was literally forced to sleep with the enemy for the benefit of her father and brothers and that has to be excruciatingly humiliating. I can only imagine how she must have felt after hearing about the bloodshed and atrocities committed by her husband on her own people. My intention is not to offend anyone here.

Devki,
Meaning of 'Romance' in medieval times was different from what it is now in modern times. This is something we need to see. Same the story of JA. It is quite clear that even in modern times, how many expect the kind of romance shown with RT - PS. ( Just asking )

Karni Sena had MAJOR problem with the name of show. Acc. to them, Jodha was Salim's wife.
Raja Bhagwan Das was with Akbar in this battle. Raja TodarMal was a MAJOR player in this war. Though, BOTH of them were opposed to this massacre and tried to stop Akbar (All this in next part). Akbar was happy at this win and he celebrated it with great 'ZeaL'.

And about Akbar, he has multiple shades, good as well as bad. Thats why his actions are heavily debated.{You must be aware of the recent controversy} No doubt, what happened in Chittor was WRONG. Using religion here and mixing this with politics was something we can not ignore.

BTW, If this post was depressing, then i fear, the next one is going to be unbearable to read.

PS:
If possible do follow the comments on blog. And also, the "other" thread. I will be discussing it MORE there. Less active on IF. Just shared the links here. :)

Absolutely, romance had a different definition in medieval times. However we are so used to seeing a mellow Akbar in the form of handsome RT that reality is a rude wake up call.🥺
Akbar definitely is not an easy person to decipher. On the one hand he has religious hardcore hindus in his family and his court (wasn't Raja Todarmal supposed to be very religious?) who he loved and respected and on the other hand he is waging a "holy" war against hindus. 😕 At least it seems that way in the Chitthor case. I think his ego, anger and frustration got the better of him.
No I am not aware of the recent controversy.
Will catch the rest on the blog.

Coming to serial's Akbar or Jodha, i've lost hopes. About the present topic -> We discussed on blog as well. Hope the issue was somewhat cleared & you are now out of the shock. :-P
Akbar has used many things to his advantage, religion also counts in this. As i said on another thread, there are few people in history who resisted temptation of using religion for their benefit. Akbar is NOT among those few people, we can understand this, provided we look beyond our sanitized histories.

PS : Recent controversy was about greatness of kings. I mean, who is more great and who is less great ; and who is not great, etc. etc. All political stuff.! :)

Don't be so disheartened by their portrayals. Maybe from now on they will give us something more realistic. 😊 The MEA Akbar is not too bad, what do you think?

Devki,

It is not about Akbar or Jodha or anyone else.
But it is about the storyline. :)

When i know how the marriage of Maan Bai and Salim was done, then i feel it quite bad to see the story going as per the gossip and highly imaginative NR of the CVs. :(

hi ABHAY
u r right on maan salim marriage even i have the same opinion like you. by taking story like this they r not doing justice to atleast any one character.after knowing history it is highly difficult to watch their marriage in that way.
