CHAPTER-5

Jalal goes and sits beside her in a stool absorbing his tears and he composes himself. Her persona is quite disturbing, her forehead is bandaged, and what not is in the room that could pierce his heart further. He scans her from head to toe absorbing each detail of her, he sees a small bump on her tummy, and this makes him smile and again reminds him that he is going to be a father son, but this smile vanishes as soon as he remembers that his wife is fighting for her life. He gently takes her hand and gently caresses it and softly kisses it. A lone tear trickles down his check and falls on her hand. Jalal quickly wipes the drop of tear from her hand; he gently lays down Jodha's hand in the same palace where it was. He says - plzz Jodha utno na hume yun na satho. Hum jante hai ki humne tumhe bahut thes paunchaiye hai magar hum yeh saza mat do. Hum tumse aur humare hone wale bache se dur mat karo. Chace tumhe humse bat nah karo. Jo bhi karna chati ho karo, bas hume chod kar mat jao. Hum jante hai ki tum hume sun sakti ho kyunki tumne aj tak humari har ek bat suni hai. Toh aj bhi sunogi. Plzz hume itni bada saza mat do. That is when the nurse comes in and says - sir your visiting time is over. Jalal- ok and leaves, taking a glance of his beloved. He realizes that he has no clue how time flew inside the ICU, but he knows one thing for sure he has left his heart in the ICU that is when he sees' Moti and Abdul in the hospital. Abdul looks worried and Moti furious, Moti proceed towards Jalal and says- leave her alone. Will u? Jalal says- See your anger is justified, but she needs me right now. Moti says- Seriously did my ears hear that she needs me, or did I hear something wrong Mr Jalal. Are you cracking a joke, and then it is not a good one because she has survived the toughest situation without you and I believe she will manage this one also. Abdul sees' situations going out of hand and sees' Jalal and Moti becoming the center of attention, so he steps forward and says - enough of this sh**t guys. This is the hospital, not either of your homes where you can scream at your highest, her silence is demanded. All three move towards the canteen and while moving to the canteen Abdul whispers to Jalal- you are so dead man, there is a lot more you need to know. As, soon as they reach canteen Moti says- I have seen her suffer each and every day, I have seen her in pain in such vulnerable condition that is can't explain it to you. So plzz leave, it is all because of you Jalal she had to suffer physically mentally. You increased her problems you know what she never told anyone about her pregnancy except me, because she never wanted to trouble Sujamal and Uncle, you know how much he opposed your marriage, she knew he would have surely asked her to abort the child. She mostly remained in the confines of her room, she has become fearful to socialize. She always told me she desires to die but could not as she could not snatch the opportunity to live from an unborn child which has not even seen the world once. Do you know how much uncle criticized her when she came to Mumbai? He said that he knew that this marriage would not work, he did not even allow her to enter the house, she had to live in her apartment alone all these months. She had detached herself from every emotion she had ever felt or known of. I took her to the counselor the counselor said she is depressed and she should abort the child as there is no scope of her husband returning and if she desires to have a good future. You know what she literally ruined the counselor whole room threw things here and there and she shouted and said- Who the F**k are you to tell me to abort my child. I had come here in the hope to get rid of my problems but you are just increasing them. Bye, you keep your F**king job. I asked her why she couldn't abort child. She answered she can't snatch her child's right to live, and that too only for this reason so that she could have a better future. She couldn't be selfish, her words are clear in my mind Jalal. She said Jalal- I can't live in such an f**king life nor except such a future where the scapegoat is my child, my first and only true love's symbol. The doctor even told her carrying the baby in her womb is dangerous as her womb is too weak to support her and her baby, but then she was stubborn enough to fight for her child and let it live. Slowly she had been recovering from her pregnancy complications that you entered her life. I' m requesting you Jalal enough of everything I have seen her die each and every day. His heart ached hearing everything. Jalal speaks calmly- But she can't live without me and me without her. Moti says- your wish Mr. Jalal if you want to get humiliated stay, but if anything happens to Jo because of you I will ruin you. Jalal could clearly depict the depth of Moti's hatred towards him which is quite justified; he simply sits on the chair nearby waiting for the day to pass by. It passes in a slow mood indeed. The doctor informs Jalal, Moti, Sujamal and Abdul that Jodha has gained sconsciousness; she will be soon shifted to the general ward after that anyone could meet her. All Jodha could recollect when she gained consciousness is that men were behind her and that car light after that everything seemed a blur. The very next moment she touched her belly to feel her baby and thankfully it was alive, she thought at least God has some mercy on her for leaving her child alive. One thing what she knew is that the person who hit her is not to be put to blame. The next moment everything seemed to have ceased, when she sees' Jalal entering through the door, his eyes were puffed and downcast seems like he has been crying Jodha thinks, but for whom ? Me? Nice joke. Then she thinks she is hallucinating, how on earth can he be here? He is busy with that bitch. She comes out of her bubble of thought when she hears the slight creaking of the door and again sees' Jalal is here. She gets shocked with the very realization that Jalal is here, she understands the whole scenario why Jalal is here in a matter of seconds. Her mind and heart seem to have become numb she does not how to react whether to love him and forgive him or to not forgive him? She tries to think a way of avoiding Jalal but her mind seems to have stopped supporting her. She mentally chided her bind by calling it a traitor. Jalal sat near her on the stool and looked up once and see's her blankly staring at the walls. The atmosphere had traits of hesitancy and confusion what would be the next step. Jalal decides to break the silence he says- Jo. Jodha looks at him blankly and Jalal stares back at her eyes tries to read her huge brown orbs but today it seemed useless as they were emotion less. His voice is hoarse Jodha thinks as if he has been crying forever. With a long pause he continues Hume muaff kardo, humne jo bhi kiya voh mehez ek na samajhi thi, ek gunah tha voh hum apni sachi mohabbat pehchan nah pai aur .. Indeed a wrong explanation these lines make Jodha furious and before Jalal could speak further she spoke with rage, spitting fire with every word- Jalal itni ache se tumne keh diya ki tumne job hi kiye voh ek gunah tha. Tumne yeh nahi socha ki hum par kya beeti , chalo socha bhi toh kya hua, kya tum us dard ki gehariye ko nap sakte ho ? Voh har din hare ek lamha jo tumne Rukaiya ke sath chain se bitaye, voh hi har ek din aur lamha mere sene mai kanton ke tarah chubta hai Jalal kabhi tumne socha is ke bare mai Jalal?. Kya tum us har ek din ki chuban kam kar sakten ho ? Sab kuch itna acha chal raha tha Jalal tum hum aur humari zindagi sab kuch thehas- mhehas(destroyed) kar diya tumne. Us din jab tumhari meeting ho rahi thi tab mai tumhe batnehai thi ki hum pregnant hai aur tab tumhari Rukaiya ka phone aya maine voh phone uthaiye aur janta ho usne kya kaha ? Ki tum kab hume divorce de raha ho aur us se shadi kar rahe ho. Tumhe khone ke khwaab se hi humari rooh(soul) kap jati thi Jalal, par ab nahi kyunki in chan mahino(months) maine khud ko bahut sataya. Yeh puchkar ki kya kami thi hum mai ki tumne hume chodiya par kuch dino pehle yeh malum chala ki tum humare kabhi the hi nahi Jalal. Aur jo kabhi tumhara na ho voh kabhi na kabhi chala jayega na Jalal is liye tumhe hume chod kar chale gaye. Phir kyun vapas aye ho tum chale jao. Humari zindagi ki takleefeain(problems ) mat badao. Plz jao. Slowly her anger calmed down and Tears emerged out of her eyes some flowed down her face and few drops remained on her fair cherubic face glistening like pearls. Each word seemed like someone is pouring acid on his heart. Her words clearly depict that she is hurt beyond repair. He gathers up all remaining strength to talk to her and says - Hum tumhare dard batna chacte hai Jo badhana nahi chacte samjho na humari bat. Ek akhiri mauka de do Jo. Vada karte hai kabhi tumhara dil nahi todenge. Jodha gives a dead laugh and says- Kitna acha hota Jalal ki chot paunchane vala dava bhi laga sakta. Par aisa nahi Jalal jo dard dete hai voh kabhi dava nahi laga sakta. Aur kis cheej ke liye tumhe hum akhri mauka de ? Humare rishte ke liye ? Jo usi din khatam ho gaya tha jab tumne Rukaiya ke bare mai sochne lage, ya humari mohabbat ko jisko tum ne behrehmi se apne paon ke niche rondh(crushed) diya tha. Kaha jata hai Jalal ki koi bhi rishata chan( few) pano( pages) ki mohotaj nahi hoti par, yeh bato humare rishte mai bacha hi kya hai ? Sab kuch khatam ho gaya. Aur dilna todne ke bat chal rahi hai toh mai bata do tuta hua dil aur kitna tuta ga Jalal. Tumhare jaban se nikle kuch chan alfaz mere dil ke dard ko kam nahi kar sakti hai Jalal. Kash tumne yeh na kiya hota Jalal, par zindagi mai khash ki toh kami nahi hai aur yeh unhi kash mai se ek hai Jalal. Zindagi jab koi jeene ki vajah cheen lete hai toh de bhi dete hai. Zindagi ne tumshe humse cheen liye aur humare bacha hume de diya. Aur hum ek bat saf kar rahe hai ki agar tum ne humare bache ko cheen ne ki koshish bhi ki toh humse bura koi nahi hoga Jalal . aur ek sawal mai tumse puchchana chacti hon ki kya agar tumhara samne Rukaiya ka sach nahi ata toh bhi tum humare pas laut ate Jalal ?Suddenly Jodha begins to cough badly, this drained the blood out of Jalal's veins, and he immediately filled a cup of water and tried to feed her water. She immediately throws the cup and it breaks falling on the ground. This broke Jalal's heart further, somehow composing herself she said- Tumhare hath se pani pene se acha hai ki mai mar jaon. It is enough for Jalal he could hear more, he immediately leaves the room in haste, Abdul is about to follow hm, but Jalal says- mera picha mat karna Abdul. Yehin par raho.
