Eid al-Adha is an Arabic word meaning "Festival of the sacrifice" & also reffered as Major Eid or Greater Festival .

Why Eid Ul Adha is celebrated
Eid ul Adha is celebrated to remember the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim/Abraham to sacrifice his own son, Ismail. Prophet Ibrahim had been all prepared to sacrifice his son when Allah intervened and instead told him that his sacrifice has been received and replaced Prophet Ismail with a lamb to sacrifice. Till this day, Muslims all around the world sacrifice lambs, goats, sheep, camels in remembrance of this great day.
When Eid ul Adha is Celebrated
Eid ul-Adha is celebrated annually on the 10th day of the 12th and the last Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah of the lunar Islamic calendar. Eid ul-Adha celebrations start after the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia by Muslims worldwide.
