Yes, yes, Cuddly Bear and Mishti, but remember that Jodha, after one of the spats with Jalal in front of Khyber's prison, comes back to her rooms and fumes, Shahenshah har baar humse krodit hote hain. Hum to begum hain, koyi daasi nahin!

Earlier, when she refers to Benazir as keval ek daasi, the words drip with searing contempt.

So Jodha too is more than capable of making class distinctions when it suits her. Thus, one cannot ge sure of what she would do faced with an Anarkali, with a Rajvanshi Maanbai too thrown into the mix. I think she would stand four square behind Salim's wife Maanbai, and classify Anarkali, along with the Benazir and Atifa from her own experience, as a marriage wrecker. .

EK's Jo is very politically correct. 😆 No...wait... more than that - she actually believes what she says! ...In the sixteenth century! So we may expect her to take Anarkali's side and promote equality of all classes.

..and now Shyamala Akka, I just watched Saturday's Jodha and it's all different. It's Moti who's wringing her hands about Shahenshah's krodit and Jodha being quite queenly and not letting it upset her equilibrium. I think it depends on the day. Some days are better than others.

But that was not my point, Cuddly Bear, not at all! I was talking about Jodha's varying stands on class distinctions, and cited her references to daasi in that context. What does this reference of yours to the latest mahaepisode have to do with that point? I don't get it!

oh right! 😆 I was just meaning her varying reactions to krodit. So actually you were saying that she's quite fixed in her ideas about class? then that's one less uncertainty to worry about.

Dear, I don't know which MEA you're talking about coz DurgaKhote played Jodha, not Nirupa Roy. Even when she was torn between Mahabali and Salim...she was regal, respectful.

Not quite that either, my dear, if that was so, life would be simpler! I think she reacts to class distinctions on a case by case basis, and if there was an Anarkali threat to the Salim-Maanbai marriage, she would side with her bahu and classify Anarkali as an upstart daasi.

Shyamala Madam,
I have become a huge fan of yours - Never watched any serial in my life - Just chanced on one episode of JA in May 2014 ona lazy Friday evening and got hooked - As with everyone got fascinated by Akbar and started reading a lot on Net - But the serial has lost all charm now but still unable to leave it for two reasons - There is another JA story in my head now and second is Rajat.

I have been catching up with your posts on IF - What a wonderful wonderful and lucid style of writing. Love adi, mishti, kushi and elasingh's thoughts too.

Seeing mediocrity work with superlative is one of the great tragedies of life or any theatre - Sometimes I feel that JA's female lead acting is similar to School drama. Rajat was phenomenal in first 90 episodes.

In Mughal e azam Jodha was opposed to Anarkali though out she just wanted Salim safe that is it. She was never in favour of Anarkali except once she sees Salim begging her in tears to give him anarkali and take away anything from him even taqt that is only scene she melts otherwise she is a typical royal queen who thinks a maid/dancer cannot become her son's wife
Instead of salim-anarakali its salim-nur jahan that will be more interesting to watch what with again the class issue salim a royal crown prince nur jahan an immigrant Persian minister daughter and Akbar not wanting her as his daughter-in-law and finally salim gets his chance when Akbar dies and quli khan gets killed(whether salim told to kill him is a mystery unsolved till now) and finally after 6 years he marries her at age of 43 when she is in her mid 30s that is more interesting love story than salim anarkali
